When was the last smackdown like this in a race that was once thought to be compeittive? I mean, I'm sure that McCain or Teddy Kennedy have gotten upwards of 90% against sacrificial lambs, but at one point, the GOP thought this could be a pickup for them. Just goes to show you, if you want to be a Senator, don't go to kinky sex clubs with your wife unless you're sure that she won't mind.

And I think John and Uncle Ted do get some competition in their elections -- it's just that they always seem to have a comfortable majority that votes for them no matter what. The real mismatches are those inner-city elections with Maxine Watters and friends. Most of the time the GOP doesn't even bother. EDIT: God damnit, I have to register. F-that...

Well, nobody thought Keyes would give him any problems, but before the implosion of Ryan, the GOP thought they could win or keep it close. I just find it funny that a party that was in control of the major executive offices just a few years ago has imploded utterly.

The only reason the GOP had a resurgence in IL is because Rostenkowski and Mosely-Braun were such disasters that ANYBODY looked good in comparison. -=Mike

bobobrazil1984 Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 funny but no surprise. the point of keyes wasn't to try to win, it was simply to lob shots at Obama to try and lay a "foundation of weakness" on certain things, so future shots later in Obama's career could possibly have more impact. Kinda like the swiftboat vet ads and kerry. Keyes can get away with saying something like "obama's position on abortion is the slaveholder's position" (or whatever his exact quote was) without being accused of racism.
