CanadianChick Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 Don't you all ever listen to college radio? At the very emo-tastic worst, it at least doesn't bombard you with insurance ads... The only college within broadcast range is a Jesus college. So F that. Linkin Park and Nickleback are actually the same band. NOt true! Nickleback are middleaged sounding/looking guys who try to be cool. Linkin Park are guys who are depressed teenagers because no one likes them.
Internet Warfare Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 I actually like Linkin Park, but that might just be because I dont listen to the radio very much so I dont get the chance to get annoyed by them. Last time I checked 92.3 (Bay Area) played songs from all sorts of years but they always pick the same songs like Paradise City and that rap rock song from like 1990.
Placebo Effect Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 I'm actually a big fan of Linkin Park. Despite not being a whiny, angst ridden teenager, I actually like the music made for them. Can't stand Nickelback, Puddle of the Mudd, Three Doors Down, etc., though.
Golgo 13 Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 In regards to the Nickelback/Linkin Park thing... it's all the same to me. Not in style, sure, but I find one as shallow and cliche as the other. As far as radio stations go, they've always been horrible, although it's more disheartening that these days a majority of them are controlled by the same two or three companies. The best thing you can do is ignore them. Our major rock station around here is KBPI, and it's usually Godsmack/Linkin Park/Puddle of Mudd/Nickelback/Korn. Though there are a couple of decent shows dedicated to metal and local bands every weekend.
AndrewTS Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 * Nirvana * Guns & Roses (arrrrrrrrrgh! Always a large library to pick from, but I don't care because I hated them then and I hate them now) * Pearl Jam * Soundgarden * OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD Metallica * Rarely, the occasional good song from a band that feels different from everything listed above Hey look, it's the only decent bands since 1990! Those bastards........... Go find yourself some nice Nickelback, Three Doors Down or Sum 41. That outta hold ya. I gotta agree. Don't bitch. My rock station basically only plays the NB/LP/Limp sort of shit. There's even less classic rock these days on the station. Funny that they plugged for the last Iron Maiden concert in the area but never ever ever ever played a song by them, new, old, or even fucking Blayze, the whole time I ever listened to the station. Granted, those "The" bands aren't too bad, but aren't really my cup of tea either.
Guest El Satanico Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 To feel better scream "DAMN YOU Clearchannel DAAAMN YOOOU!". Locally I have one good channel that plays a decent variety of what ever "alternative music" is named in the wake of watered down crap like Nickleback being considered "alternative". The classic rock channel is ok, but other than Sunday morning and every week day for an hour around noon they don't dig deep enough into albums. I mean classic rock hits are fine, but I also want some seldom played tracks. At the place I go to in the far South of Florida, they have a great classic rock channel. I mean they played Zappa and not just one of his mainstream accessible songs, but one of his "wtf is this" songs.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 Wow. I think I've heard "Valley Girl" once on a form of media other than my Zappa cds, and that's it. That was also his highest charting single. Didn't crack the top 50, unless I'm mistaken. In regards to the Nickelback/Linkin Park thing... it's all the same to me. Not in style, sure, but I find one as shallow and cliche as the other. Yeah, that's what I was going for there.
Masked Man of Mystery Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 I have some pretty good stations where I am, but I usually stick to NPR/sports talk. I avoid morningshows like the plague where they play music because it is so stupid. That's why Howard Stern gets ratings as far as I'm concerned
Masked Man of Mystery Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 Sorry about the double post
The Amazing Rando Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 1. I once heard "Out Of My Head" by Fastball SIX TIMES in one day (i was sick and laid in bed next to a radio). 2. I once heard "Hotel California" 3 times in 2 hours (thanks to a CRAPPY AS FUCK mid-day request show. 3. I <3 XM.
