AmazingRen 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 TNA Impact tapings September 2, 2004 Orlando, Fla. at Universal Studios Report by Alan J. Wojik, PWTorch.com correspondent DARK MATCHES Due to the threat of Hurricane Frances the crowd was scary low, so they sat all the fans on the hard camera side of the building. (1) "Wildcat" Chris Harris (w/"Cowboy" James Storm) beat Bobby Roode (w/Petey Williams). Storm was ringside with a crutch due to his lower back injury that was exasperated last night in AMW's loss to the Naturals. Williams tried to pull a double switch but Harris was not fooled. Harris hit the Catatonic but Williams pulled Dalton to the floor. Storm attacked Williams but Johnny Devine distracted Harris so Roode could hit a backward clothesline for the win BUT TNA Senior referee Rudy Charles came down and ordered the match restarted and even after more outside interference by Team Canada, Harris hit Roode with the spear for the victory. (2) "Primetime" Elix Skipper & "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels beat Frankie "The Future" Kazarian & Michael Shane (w/Traci Brooks.) Kazarian and Shane look more fluid each week they work a match. The crowd for some strange reason does not like the duo, maybe not cool enough. Shane missed Daniels and hit Kazarian with the superkick. Daniels hit a bookend to set up Skipper for a mid top rope leg drop. Shane took the mic to insult the fans for the lack of attendance while Kazarian ripped a fans' "the coolest" sign up. IMPACT TAPINGS They showed a highlight package from last night's PPV to begin the show. Like last nights PPV, NWA World Heavyweight champion Jeff Jarrett took to the ring to address hit match with the number one contender Jeff Hardy. Thanks to Jeremy Borash's encouragement the fans chanted Hardy's name. Jarrett pretty much gave the same speech he did on the PPV so I will not talk about it. To come back from commercial 3 Live Kru, Kid Kash and Dallas gave their opinion on the upcoming heavyweight title match. (1) 3 Live Kru (Konnan & B.G. James & Ron Killings) beat Alex Shelley & Nosawa & Abyss (w/Goldy Locks.) James and Konnan tossed Abyss to the floor then threw Shelley into Abyss as Killings hit Nosawa with the scissor kick. As the show went to commercial they once again hinted to Abyss snapping on Goldy and Shelley. Quick highlights of the "asylum Street Fight" from last night was shown. (2) "Notorious K.I.D" Kid Kash (w/Dallas) beat Kid Romeo. Dallas carried a folding table that had AJ spray painted around a big X. it was over before it started as Kash hit his double underhook piledriver. Dallas then put the table in the ring as Kash came off the top rope and put Romeo through it. Footage from last night's World Tag Team title match was shown for the following match. (3) The Naturals beat Shark Boy & D-Ray 3000 to retain the NWA World Tag Team Titles. D-Ray is over as the comedic talent that he is trying to be but the good feelings were short lived as D-Ray was hit with the Natural Disaster. Footage of Bobby Roode, Frankie Kazarian, Michael Shane, and AJ Styles giving opinions on next week's World Title match. (4) Team Canada manager Scott D'Amore (w/Team Canada beat Chasyn Rance. This match was a warmup for D'Amore's match this Wednesday night with Dusty Rhodes. D’Amore came wearing a Ric Flair/Rick Rude style robe. Team Canada made Jeremy Borash read a overhyped card on D'Amore's ring credentials but he showed off his skills (D'Amore runs Border City Wrestling and a training school that produced Petey Williams among others.) D'Amore hit a moonsault but hit Rance on the legs then hit a DVD into a Michinoku Driver. D'Amore trash talked Rhodes on the mic. After the show went to break Team Canada sang the Canadian national anthem which got huge heat. Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Goldilocks and Raven gave opinions on the world title match. (5) "Alpha Male" Monty Brown beat Adam Flash. Flash is a Combat Zone Wrestling regular. This was good but too short as Brown hit the POUNCE (yelled real loud and said long ways.) Brown told Jarrett and Hardy that he was waiting for the winner of their match. "The Franchise" Shane Douglas interviewed Dusty Rhodes about the upcoming PPV match with Scott D'Amore where Vince Russo will be the special referee. Before the main event Shane Douglas and Jerry Lynn gave opinions on the match. Jeff Hammond's "Six Points of Impact" was once again with Elliot Sadler. (6) "The Phenomenal" A.J. Styles & "The Charismatic Enigma" Jeff Hardy beat Elite Guard members Onyx and Hotstuff Hernandez. During the match Vince Russo joined Mike Tenay and Don West for commentary. Good match that saw Hardy hit Onyx with the Swanton bomb to win the match. After the show ended Jimmy Hart came out to thank the fans for coming out and to tell the fans that the Impact tapings will be moving to Tuesday's beginning Tuesday, September 14. Guest Donners Report post Posted September 3, 2004 That doesn't sound that bad at all. Hell, without any real indication in the report as to match quality, I think it's very hard to judge how good the show was overall. Then again, with such insightful observations as, "This sounds the worst Impact! show", I guess you don't need much of a basis... Storm was ringside with a crutch due to his lower back injury that was exasperated last night in AMW's loss to the Naturals. That made me laugh out loud for some reason. Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Wait...D'Amore can actually wrestle?! Time for WWE to call him up for a Cruiserweight Title run.
Guest Donners Report post Posted September 3, 2004 To be fair, two of those matches have storyline implications. With Impact soon to be the sole build for the PPVs, they have to screen matches like that. Plus, I imagine the dark matches are used to test out combinations ahead of a PPV match. With a six-team X Division tag match next week, those two teams will undoubtedly be a part, so this was a good way to try a few things out ahead of that. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 "Six-man X-Division tag match" translates into "six jobbers that are told to slow down their wrestling, but then told to only do highspots, together for no real reason" these days. Also, how is there ANY storyline involved in D'Amore defeating a no-name jobber? His build to the match with Dusty? A promo couldn't do that? It's not worth building to anyway, as the match will be shit, and nobody gives a fuck about Dusty Rhodes anymore. And, last I checked, Monte Brown squashing an indy wrestler wasn't exactly a "storyline," more like a "you can see this every week" deal. Impact is the X-Division show my ass. Guest Donners Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Actually, it's 12 men since it's a six team match if Meltzer was right. Presumably Triple X, Shane & Kazarian, Sabin & Red, Batts & Clark, Psychosis & La Parka and another two. The two "storyline" matches I had in mind were D'Amore's (showing that he is an actual wrestler, since many may not remember his match with Lynn, and thus think of him as a manager) and the Abyss/Shelley thing, which has been built on Impact over the last few weeks. Indeed, I could see that becoming quite a major part of Impact in the coming weeks, as both have been regulars there.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 And yet again, the best matches - matches that would probably make me come out of my self-imposed Impact exile, at least for them - are the dark matches, which will not air. GLAD to see the obligatory Monty Brown match still took place. Not even the hurricane can stop that!
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Why the hell wasn't Triple X vs. Kazarian and Shane on the show?
AmazingRen 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Would it have killed them to have Petey Williams re-match with Sonjay and for him to cut a promo challenging AJ since AJ called him out on the PPV? Would it have killed them to have Chris Harris or James Storm v. Primetime or Daniels with one of the Naturals being the special guest referee to continue the feud? Would it have killed them to have Bobby Rude (w/Scott) v. B.G. James (w/Dusty) to help push the match next week? And god forbid they couldn't have done Hardy and AJ v. Jarrett and Kash to help the final confrontation between Hardy and Jarrett before the "BIGGEST TNA MATCH IN HISTORY" next week.

Guest M. Harry Smilac Report post Posted September 3, 2004 why are they billing jeff hardy as the charismatic enigma when hes got less charisma then a.j freaking styles? Cuz everyone has to have a cheesy nickname and not all of them can be honest like "The Phenominal" Aj Styles. Otherwise it would be Jeff "The blatantly homosexual poet" Hardy. Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted September 4, 2004 Well the thing is after Daniels got a psudo-push as part of XXX I thought Shelley might get some sort of push. Not saying Daniels is pushed enough, because he could be a good world champ if JJJ wasn't so damned retarded. My point was, I held out a bit of hope that Shelley may get some sort of lower card push. I was wrong.
