Frosty Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 I just bought a new computer with a DVD burner in it. If I'm not mistaken it's a DVD+RW. I have used and had success with copying DVD's with DVD+RW discs, but it wouldn't use the DVD-R disc..... Which types of discs are compatible with which types of burners as well as DVD players? Ps: The DVD's I copyed did work in my regular DVD player and My X box.

Frosty Posted September 4, 2004 Author Report Posted September 4, 2004 Thank you. That is EXACTICALLY what I was looking for.
Frosty Posted September 10, 2004 Author Report Posted September 10, 2004 OK, SO now I have a new problem.... I went out and bought some DVD+R's after I seen the last post to use in my DVD+RW drive, it says that they are compatible with that kind of drive, yet the drive won't recognize them as Blank Media.... Why not?
Jobber of the Week Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 What kind of drive? What kind of discs?

Why not? Download and install this program: DVD Info Pro It'll tell you what formats your burner can read, and what formats it can write to.
Frosty Posted September 13, 2004 Author Report Posted September 13, 2004 Thanks... I'll give it a try.
Dr. Tom Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 For general burning, DVD-R is recognized by just about every commercial DVD player. If you're burning movies and the like, -R is the way to go. I've yet to have a problem with them.
Frosty Posted September 14, 2004 Author Report Posted September 14, 2004 My Drive won't recognize them either. The drive is a GCA-4040N. I've been reading around that the net about the drives and there is some kind of compatibility problem but there was too much technobabble and I never understood most of it..... and I ran that program mentioned earlier and it said it's supposed to recognize and write to DVD+R and DVD+RW.

Wow - what are the odds of this. I have the same drive on my Dell laptop. There were never any driver updates released for the GCA-4040N. That's why people bitch about it so much. Unfortunately, I've never burned a DVD with the drive. DVDInfoPro says the same thing as yours (reads DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW - writes to DVD+R and DVD+RW).
