AFL Finals Series

Recommended Posts

Peoples,

It's finals time again for the Australian Football League and once again, the Brisbane Lions (my team) are in the hunt for the premiership. Only difference is that they are going for their fourth title in a row, and unprecedented event in the modern era of the game (where salary caps and draft picks try and put a stop to teams dominating the game)

Anyone got their picks? I'm hoping for a Brisbane Lions v Port Adelaide final with Brisbane winning it.

No chance Brisbane will win again. And while your describing how the system has been designed for teams like them not to have the run they have, also mention that they are granted and extra 15% or roughly $600,000 on to their salary cap. But as I was syaing, if they play Essondon next week at the MCG, Sheedy will do nothing short of blackmailing his players to get them over the line. Like Leigh Matthews said when describing Essondon of 2001 "If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It", and beleive you me, Brisbane bleeds

Essendon beat Brisbane??? Pffft, hahahahahahaha. Dude, have you even been watching them play recently?? Essendon squeezed past Melbourne by a goal last weekend after some very ordinary late umpiring calls, if you reckon they'll get warm against the best team of the modern era you're on crack. Brisbane are a certainty to match the feats of the Collingwood team of the late 50s.

I can't believe Brown got off with nothing, even if the loophole they exploited was clever.

Brisbane to win it all, again, but if anyone is going to take them down, it's Port.

Oh c'mon, he just dragged someone to the ground. That was wrestling, nothing more. He'll get a fine for the melee/wrestling charge he and all the others are up on. There was no reason for him to get weeks for that. Port are an excellent team, but Brisbane's incredible midfield and wealth of Grand Final experience will make all the difference on that Last Saturday in September.

When you take into account his prior bad acts, he could have at least gotten one week, and a lot of people thought he might.

I'd rather him play of course, but people have been done for less.

A player's prior convictions don't come into play unti he's found guilty. Having a bad record only impacts on the severity of the sentence once a player is found guilty.

Yeah, I understand that, just saying what could/should have happened had they made the charges stick.

Either way, they need to clarify that rule about what happens before and after the siren and what charge applies.

Yeah I can't believe it either! And if Lynch comes good for the Preliminary next weekend, Brisbane is almost unbeatable. I think Brisbane can go all the way again, but if Sydney makes the Grand Final, then Brisbane might be in a bit of trouble, since they like to play a bit of negative football.

I'm not worried about Geelong, Essendon or St. Kilda. Frankly, I think Geelong will choke, same with St. Kilda, give them 1 or 2 years and they'll be a dominant side again. Essendon are still a dominant force during the home and away season, but I can't see them going all the way this year in the finals, they'll struggle.

Essendon are a dominant force in home & away??? They barely limped into the 8 with less wins than any other finalist.

Sydney like to play "a bit" of negative football?? I don't think I've ever seen such negative football in my life. That's all well and good playing at home and in home & away matches. But that team doesn't have enough experience to negate Brisbane in the cauldron of 60 000 people on Grand Final Day. They'll get rolled.

Well Semi-Final 1 is on tonight, Saints Vs Sydney. Winner plays Port Adelaide. Frankly, tonight's winner won't really make a difference to me since I have a funny feeling no matter the outcome, Port Adelaide will steamroll them.

There's no two ways about it. Port Adelaide won't be beaten at AAMI Stadium, particularly by either of these teams. Frankly neither of the Semi-Finals matters a shit. The Grand Final is decided.

The Swans got absolutely hammered last night by the Saints. It's a shame really cause I was really pulling for them to win.

So we have a Port Adelaide vs. St. Kilda preliminary at AAMI Stadium... Looks like Port's going to the Grand Final then.

We had established that before last night. These two semis are the most irrelevant finals games I can remember.

I'm kind of pissed off that Essendon was given the shaft. Would have loved to have seen an Essendon v Brisbane Preliminary Final.

Everyone seems to be pointing towards a Port Adelaide v Brisbane Lions Grand Final more and more now, but I would not be surprised to see the Saints get up there, knowing Port's reputation as a finals "choker" :D
