Guest Nanks Report post Posted September 14, 2004 Nor do I to be totally honest. I don't really follow Rugby Union. I don't mind a bit of League, but that's neither here nor there really. As I said earlier on there is absolutely no link between the two games. Do you have the necessary channel to watch it Damaramu?? I put up a schedule at the start of the thread, this weekend is the Preliminary Finals, which are in essence the same as the NFC/AFC Championships in that the winning teams go to the Grand Final. We don't have conferences though, there's only 16 teams in the league. The games are on Friday and Saturday night our time so that translates roughly to Friday and Saturday morning your time. Guest Nanks Report post Posted September 14, 2004 Right, I looked it up. Seems you're getting it on a bit of delay, but I don't know why I should be surprised by that. Match of the Week (2 hours) Thur 16 Sep 11:00 PM EDT Semi-Finals St. Kilda v Sydney Not the game of the year, but a decent enough way to try and get a feel for how the game works if you've not seen it before. Thur 23 Sep 11:00 PM EDT Preliminary Finals Brisbane v Geelong Brisbane have won the Premiership the last 3 years and are a sensational team to watch, Geelong are one of the few teams that have beaten them this year. I recommend this game, I can tell you if it was a good game in a few days time. Sat 25 Sep 12:00 MN EDT Grand Final (Live) Teams TBA Likely to be Brisbane v Port Adelaide. This is the equivalent to the Superbowl, if you like, and worth watching for that reason if no other. Obviously being on a midnight is a drawback, but you could at least record it. Highlights Program (1 hour) Fri 17 Sep 3:00 PM EDT Semi-Finals Geelong v Essendon Decent game, it's being shown at a more accessible time so worth a look. It might be worthwhile checking out highlights of a game to start with anyway to avoid any periods of the game which are a little slow. Especially given this game was played in the wet. Fri 24 Sep 3:00 PM EDT Preliminary Finals Port Adelaide v St. Kilda Same deal as above except that the game hasn't been played yet so I can't comment on quality. Positively Kanyon 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 Thur 23 Sep 11:00 PM EDT Preliminary Finals Brisbane v Geelong Between that game and the Brisbane v. North Queensland Rugby League game, people here in Brisbane are in an absolute sports frenzy! I love finals time!
Positively Kanyon 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2004 Looks like Port Adelaide is through to the Grand Final... Let's see if they still choke! They play the winner of Brisbane Lions V Geelong tonight... GO LIONS!
Positively Kanyon 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2004 Looks like the AFL has it's first ever "non-Victorian" Grand Final. Port Adelaide v Brisbane Lions! Will Port choke? Can the Lions get the "four-peat" ??? Any thoughts?
Anorak 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 Nope...got a question though. Why doesn't the rest of the world play or watch either Aussie Rules or American 'football'?
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 I used to watch AFL back in the day when it was on a local cable channel that has since been swallowed by Fox Sports Net -- they always had some American team losing, and they had the big bald white guy. That's all I remember...
Guest Smues Report post Posted September 28, 2004 As part of a teacher exchange program in 5th grade I had an Austrailian teacher for the better part of the year. She tried to teach us rugby and austrailian rules football, but instead of explaining anything to us she just keep yelling at us about how much better then the NFL they were and how they didn't wear pads like the NFL wussies. Then again I don't think she taught us anything that year other then the fact that Austrailia is better then the US. (The fact they invented the lawnmower was hammered into my head. ) If I had the channel I'd watch and probably enjoy it, but until I get to see it I'm kind of soured on AFL thanks to my 5th grade teacher.
