Guest Shoes Head Report post Posted September 18, 2004 So I was fired and as soon as I got home I locked myself inside my apartment for a few days. When you're extremely depressed you tend to throw caution to the wind, so I ventured out on the front porch. I offered to buy some bootlegged CDs off of some guy standing out there and tried to work my way into some sort of conversation. They were a little apprehensive at first but eventually I started talking with the dominoes guys. They said all this time was in the building the rumor was I was an undercover cop tapping the building. I was relieved to have cleared that up before I, you know, was killed. I just assumed they were drug dealers, being that they didn't hold jobs and just sat there all day. I couldn't be further from the truth. One guy hadn't worked in 2 years and still lived with his mother. One guy had a clothing stand and bootlegged CD's and DVDs, another was a drug dealer but he was the only one. A few other guys just had odd jobs here and there but had county assistance checks from their girlfriends. One guy grinned and told me something which actually ended up changing my life forever. He does "clinical studies." Which means testing out experimental or new generic brands of formerly patented medications. You can get paid up to 300 dollars a day doing this and the average is 200 bucks a day. This guy independently purchased healthcare benefits and had a car, all right clothes and a girlfriend. He gave me the number and I screened for drugs and diseases and made it into a study testing a generic brand of Prevachol. For 5 days and 6 nights I pulled in $1200, and I'm going into a study in Maryland for 3 days for $2000. There's a study coming up in October for $8000 for 28 days. In there it's filled with either convicted felons who can't hold any other jobs, or college kids who need money. I can bring in my laptop and work on my music, use my cellphone for wireless internet, etc. At about $40,000 in take home pay, it pays more than my last job. to be continued....
