Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 18, 2004 Shut up. It's history. Of course they are going to show and they SHOULD. 700 HRs hasn't been hit in my lifetime and I would like to see it done live, as would a ton of other people. Then don't even bother with a game. If Barry Bonds is so much more important than baseball itself, why waste time with a game as background noise? Just clear out a three hour block every day and dedicate it to Bonds. When he comes up, show the at bat. Don't make a game seem worthless. "Well, you may think this game is great and/or important, but you're a fool. Now watch Bonds walk." mike546 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2004 Alright. I know I've said bad things about Tanyon Sturtze before. I've said things about him that would get me slapped in the face by my parents. But after tonight, I officially love him.
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 18, 2004 Bonds hits a home run. Yay. NOW GO BACK TO A FUCKING IMPORTANT GAME!

Mik 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2004 And I'm thrilled I got to watch it live. Anglesault, you're incredibly biased and we all understand that, so I'm not even going to bother. It took, at most, 3 minutes out of the game, and me and countless others got to watch history unfold. If poor Yankee and Red Sox fans had to suffer for that, that's too bad. Guest Smues Report post Posted September 18, 2004 Good now Bonds watch is over, for awhile. I turned it as soon as they went to show his at-bat, but when I came back they showed the little graphic comparing him to Ruth and Aaron so he must have hit it. Yippie skippy for him. Was I the only one kind of hoping the SF game would go long and they'd interupt that stupid "who'se curse is worse" thing to show Bonds? Now THAT would have been funny. Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 18, 2004 If this was a crap game that had no importance, no one would care, but when you break to Bonds batting every time DURING the actual game, it gets annoying after three years. It was annoying anytime they do it period. If I loved Bonds so much or cared about the record, I'll turn on channel 776 or whatever the Giants are on tonight and watch him. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 18, 2004 It took, at most, 3 minutes out of the game, That's not the point. Bonds is not more important than baseball, he's certainly not more important than a baseball game, and he's sure as hell not more important than a pennant race. If you want to run this "Hunt for October" nonsense, don't make games that are part of a "Hunt for October" look worthless. And I have a question. Did Randy Johnson somehow not make important history? Why was there no "cut to Johnson for every two strike at bat" routine the other night?
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 18, 2004 Now ESPN 2 drops whatever they were doing and verbally blow Bonds too with quadruple replays of the same swing. I guess they couldn't break to all those important Sox games or Yank games last week while redneck racing is on, but when someone hits a home run everyone cums in their pants like a shotgun. mike546 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2004 I'm not sure where you live Anglesault, but I'm guessing you live in the tri state area. I don't agree with any of it either, but your watching the game on YES, how does it affect you?
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 18, 2004 Incase you weren't watching 5 minutes ago, or ESPN 2, here's ANOTHER replay of Bonds home run. I'm assuming he's not getting YES network feed, and is forced to watch ESPN. My Indemand Extra Innings is showing NESN, and their broadcasters suck, so I'm watching ESPN also. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2004 Hell I've got the game on CBS 2 right now. No interruptions here. ESPN is just showing an ESPNNews simulcast, due to blackout restrictions. So I haven't even seen Bonds' home run.
Mik 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2004 You guys have no appreciation for history, to the point where it's sickening. It is rather tiresome when they cut out for meaningless at-bats, but he just became the 3rd player in ONE HUNDRED years to hit 700 HRs. It's one of the most elusive things to do in sports. Yes, you cut out of the game for it. It transcends a single game. People here are so jaded and cynical about EVERYTHING, it's insanity.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 18, 2004 You guys have no appreciation for history News to me. Now explain why they didn't cut to the Big Unit everytime he had a two strike count. He's third all time in strikeouts, and there's a decent chance that he'll get as far as second now. Is that not important?

The Sox and Yankees are fighting over home field advantage, and the Sox have about an 8:1 shot of catching the Yankees. Its not that big of a game anyway. Forgive us if we're sick of the Sox/Yankees circlejerk dominating coverage. We want to see history.

I'd say someone being 2nd or 3rd on the all-time stirke outs list means a lot more than hitting 700 home runs. I guess I find pitchers to be more talented (and important). Fökai 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2004 "..while you're currently watching the Red Sox and Yankees go to battle, history could be made as David Wells is one strike away from throwing a perfect game. The crowd at Petco are on the edge of their seats. Of course, we are obligated by jaded fans to keep coverage here at Yankee Stadium. Keep searching for that channel that's currently airing the Giants/Padres game, fans, you won't be disappointed. 2-1 Yankees in the top of the sixth." Guest Smues Report post Posted September 18, 2004 but he just became the 3rd player in ONE HUNDRED years to hit 700 HRs. Randy Johnson just became the 3rd player to throw over 4137 strikeouts. No pomp and circumstance for him. And I think the main thing is, yeah, 700 is HUGE. However, it loses some, or alot, of it's impact when they do this for EVERYTHING bonds does. 73, 600, Mays, it gets old fast. Yes 700 is a big milestone, but people stop caring when they throw it in your face for everything he does. And also, sure he's only the 3rd to hit 700, but guess what? He was always only the 3rd to get 699, and 698, and 697, etc. 700 is just a round number that in reality is meaningless by itself. 715 will have meaning, but once again after having the media shove everything before 715 in our faces 715 won't be that exciting. Bored 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2004 Appreciate the feat, don't appreciate the player. I really have no desire at all to see Bonds break the homerun record. As for the Yankees/Red Sox series, sorry the wild card has made it meaningless.
Mik 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2004 I must be missing how showing a chance at a historic at bat makes Bonds more important that his sport. If anything, it enhances the sport. Oh, I'm sorry, it takes away from the Yankees, so of course it hurts baseball. Any perfect game, no hitter, 500th HR, 600th HR by any player is cut away to be shown. This is different how? The only thing I can see is that it cut into a Sox/Yanks game.

I'm not going to get into an argument with you since you're more delusional in your battles than the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but give me one example where anybody said Bonds was more important than baseball. And don't quote a post about it being history or about the moment. Since you said "player", I want an example of the player. Point taken on the Johnson thing though, but baseball has always been under the belief than home runs sell better than pitching.
