I had a vague interest in seeing "Sky Captain...", so good for it nearly making seventy million. And Hero making fifty million is A-OKAY with me.

 

"Shaun of the Dead" next week. Can't wait for that one. Hell, the way the box office has been lately, it has a chance to cash in big time.

It'll be a shocker if Shaun isn't #1 next week. It's only real competition opening next week is The Forgotten, which I can't see being #1.

I'm pretty sure "Shaun" is in limited release to LA and NY to start.

So I doubt it has a shot at #1 sadly.

 

If it gets a wide release, I am first in line.

Actually no, I never trust IMDB. Not since I was listed briefly as a cast member in Buffy.

 

I got that from Yahoo and an earlier report from the "Shaun" website. If they are smart, it goes wide.

 

I hope it goes wide but I have no shot in hell seeing it close by. My state sucks like that.

 

I'll need a 2,500 screen release to get it.

I just realized that I start my service learning (teaching an autistic child for two hours) immediately after school on Friday. Fuck, fuck, fuck.

 

Now I'm going to have to wait till Satutrday to see Shaun.

All I know is that one of the better theaters in my area is playing Shaun. I'll be there on openeing night for sure, even though I watched the film months ago on a VCD that I burned myself.

 

It's going to be so awesome seeing this on the big screen.

In what amounted to a somewhat Pyrrhic victory, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow took the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office over the weekend, but the $70-million film grossed just $16.2 million, and most analysts predicted a big fall-off during its second week. Wayne Lewellen, Paramount's distribution chief, blamed the September play date for the poor box office performance. In an interview with the Associated Press, Lewellen remarked, "I thought we had a great date in June prior to the opening of [spider-Man 2]. Unfortunately, [the producers] couldn't deliver the picture [then]." The baseball flick Mr. 3000 opened in second place with $9.2 million, while last week's winner, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, plunged 61 percent to take third place with $9 million. Debuting in fourth place was the romantic comedy Wimbledon with $7.8 million. Total sales for the top 12 films was a dismal $66.1 million, down 27 percent from the comparable weekend a year ago.
