Fox News apologises for lying about Kerry

Recommended Posts

Heres the link, although you need to register to see the story

http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/stor...1319073,00.html

Fox News, the influential rightwing US television network, said yesterday it had "reprimanded" its chief political correspondent after its website carried fabricated quotes attributed to John Kerry, in which he called himself a "metrosexual" who enjoys getting manicures.

The network, owned by Rupert Murdoch, apologised for the article in which the Democratic challenger was quoted telling a rally in Florida: "Didn't my nails and cuticles look great? What a good debate!" Comparing himself to the president, Mr Kerry was supposed to have said: "I'm metrosexual - he's a cowboy." Women voters, he purportedly added, "should like me! I do manicures."

The article appeared under the byline of Carl Cameron, who has been following Mr Kerry on the campaign trail. It had been posted on the site, the network said in a statement, because of "fatigue and bad judgment, rather than malice."

"Carl Cameron made a stupid mistake and he has been reprimanded for his lapse in judgment. It was a poor attempt at humour and he regrets it," a Fox spokesman, Paul Schur, told the Los Angeles Times, though he would not give details of what action would be taken against Mr Cameron.

The "metrosexual" story taps into a persistent theme underlying the election race, in which the Republican party and its supporters in the media have sought to make a campaign issue of the candidates' perceived masculinity.

At the party's convention in New York last month, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called Mr Kerry's advisers "economic girlie-men".

A metrosexual, the fake Fox article helpfully concluded, "is defined as an urbane male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle".

Wow, a news organization apologizing for a news story immediately?

Wish more did that.

Good for them. Its nice to see CBS and Fox able to publically apologize for mistakes...though Mike and his fellow Republikids will continue to whine.

Except CBS decided to attack its critics, lie for 2 weeks, STILL refuses to admit that the memos are fakes, and actually tried to peddle "Fake, but accurate" as a defense.

Fox apologized immediately.

Who's whining?

Funny the only people I see around here who do that are you, Jobber, INXS and the rest of the Kerry fanboys.

Hell, it's just like the draft scare tactic :D

Out of morbid curiosity, can I get a few links to my 'whining posts"?

Or do they reside in the same locale as my 'Bush-Hitler comparisons' and 'getting over 9-11 the next day'?

For starters, just about anything that involves the words "Black Baby"...

No offense, but they aren't very good jokes. They aren't clever jabs at Bush anymore (if they ever were), they are just irrtating crap. And it does sound like whiny crap when you continually use it as though you are making a point.

But, in your defense, I think Cheesala is the one who has used the Hitler quotes and such, not you. And you never said anything like that about 9/11 to my knowledge, and I've been here a while.

I never said they were good jokes :)

But Im not too keen on kids typing about me not caring about 9-11 or comparing the President to Hitler...I have however said that I do respect the man(Bush), I just think he is horribly wrong.

Pet goat.

Its in referance to your apparent inability to harbor any opinion of your very own. You havent swayed from the the thoughts of Mike yet, to the best of my knowledge.

Differentiate yourself, and explain your own stances.

It is not particulary bright to question somebody else's respect of the President or feelings about 9-11, and yet be unable to develop your own thought pattern.

Oh my god! We agree on most things, that makes me HIS FOLLOWER!

What exactly do you want me to lay out? (If you can't be bothered to check out the 'Thought this might be interesting' thread)

Are we now reduced to reaching like this?

Sorry greatone, but I guess I didnt feel like letting you get away with saying I compared Bush to Hitler, didnt care about 9-11, and whined without making you admit you were wrong.

Ill be glad to not view you as a Mike disciple when you emerge from his shadow...you dont have to follow the Republican platform with utter blindness you know?

Of course, youll probably call me a 'hard-line Democrat' now, completely disregarding my posts where I explain numerous disagreements with that party. (Taxes, censorship, etc)

So you DON'T wanna make the effort to look up the 'State your views' thread...................

I'd say you forfeit your right there but you'd probably say I was 'censoring' you................

I was a little curious as to if greatone was a previously-banned-poster after he stated that a 'majority of posters here got over 9-11 just a few days later'....

Maybe you should vent your venom to the original poster of 'I was tired of that 'world changed forever' shit on Sept 12.......'

I was a little curious as to how the hell you got the idea that *I* was such a sheep when half your posts are following somebody else around.

FOX apologized immediately, because they saw the shitstorm that CBS and Dan Rather went through, and wanted none of it. It has less to do with altruism, and more to do with covering one's own ass.

I wasn't talking about my post, rather a few weeks ago whoever made the post somewhere else in CE, but since the trendy thing is to go back and say that because you don't like who's at the helm until January 2009 (how's that?), I didn't think you'd mind.........................

And who are you following around? Well let's see: you mean you haven't been blindly following the 'K3rry r00ld Bushes candy asss D00D' crowd? You've actually made a good point as to how Kerry won?

And let's see: my views are the second one down in the 'Thought this might be interesting/State your views' thread (second one down) yet you can't be bothered to go look it up and just call me 'Mike's pet goat'. So your opinion is, as is the case with a few others, worthless to me.

This is the silliest and saddest devolution into flaming I've ever seen.

P.S. If someone attacks you, you've already won. We're already anonymous faces on the internet. If someone can't rebut your point, fuck 'em. Defend your position, not yourself.

P.P.S. Unless you're INXS. Dick.

LOOK closely at my sig. READ what it says. Yes, NOTE who says it. WHO does it sound JUST like? I'll give you a hint... think contemporary. At least people like that will never be able to attack my patriotism ever again and get away with it. Nor will they ever be able to guilt trip me into supporting wars by trying to make me feel "unamerican or treasonous".

Nope, nowhere was Bush mentioned by name. Though if the shoe fits his followers...

Don't like THAT quote? How about THIS one.

"The question in my mind is how many additional American casualties is Saddam worth?... And the answer is not very damned many. So I think we got it right, both when we decided to expel him from Kuwait, but also when the president made the decision that we'd achieved our objectives and we were not going to go get bogged down in the problems of trying to take over and govern Iraq.... All of a sudden you've got a battle you're fighting in a major built-up city, a lot of civilians are around, significant limitations on our ability to use our most effective technologies and techniques.... Once we had rounded him up and gotten rid of his government, then the question is what do you put in its place? You know, you then have accepted the responsibility for governing Iraq.... Now what kind of government are you going to establish? Is it going to be a Kurdish government, or a Shi'ia government, or a Sunni government, or maybe a government based on the old Baathist Party, or some mixture thereof? You will have, I think by that time, lost the support of the Arab coalition that was so crucial to our operations over there."

-Dick Cheney, speaking about the Gulf War in 1992

I WAS going to use this quote in my sig, but its too long. Alas.
