razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Could please explain to me how this works, does it only apply to recent releases or could I expect $8 for say a movie that is a few years old but in good condition?
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 If it's in their system, then you'll get $8 for it as long as it's playable, does not have stickers on the disc, and it comes with the case. If you take advantage of this deal, you could really get a hell of a deal. By the way, most things are indeed in their system. Only the most rare of things, and imports, are not in there. If for some reason you have a well known film that they say does not show up in their system, then ask them (demand them) to manually look it up instead of just scanning it. For some reason some things do not show up when simply scanned. I know this first hand, so trust me on that.
Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 So this is at all Bockbusters? Just go in and trade any DVD in their system and get 8$? And what about if I had like a Simpsons season boxset for example? Would that get more money?
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 No, this is not at all Blockbusters. Just call all of the ones near you, or go in, and ask if they take trade ins. More and more are starting to do this though, so chances are that if you do not have one near you doing it right now, you will in time. The $8 figure is just the LEAST you'll get. If you take in something that is worth more, like a box set, they will get you more than $8. However, only do that if you don't really care about getting as much for the set, etc... as you can. The best way to take advantage of this Blockbuster deal is to take in your really crappy titles that you could never unload for $8 otherwise. I'm sure most of us have DVDs like that. I don't really know for sure what they'd give for a big box set though, so just go in and ask. I've went in before with loads of stuff, just to have them check and see how much I could get for them. When you do that, you don't have to trade it to them if you don't like the figure. Or heck, just call and do it over the phone. All of the Blockbusters around here will tell you how much credit you will get for whatever over the phone.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Ok so how do I cheat the system to profit from this promotion?
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Go find a bunch of shitty DVDs to buy for a buck a piece, and then clean up on those.
spman 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 buy a bunch of $5.50 DVDs from Wal-Mart
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 But would those DVDs be in Blockbuster's "system" spman? I have no idea what you people are talking about because I don't rent movies, but I figured I'd try to help out...
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 Yes they are in the system, I've traded in a bunch of them myself.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2004 This is great and all, but its store credit and not cash (at least at my store) which pretty much kills it for me.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2004 I got $18 credit for the Dragon Ball 2 pack and $8 for a few cheap kung fu movies.
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2004 Damn. I have countless direct-to-video films sent to me by companies that, despite loving having a huge collection, are worth getting rid of for $8 store credit. Three films will give me a month on their rental pass plan, which I'm enjoying right now.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 7, 2004 Even store credit isn't that bad of a deal. They sell movies and games, both used and new, so it's not like you can't turn the store credit into something other than rentals.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2004 Even store credit isn't that bad of a deal. They sell movies and games, both used and new, so it's not like you can't turn the store credit into something other than rentals. The Blockbuster I go to usually sells brand new DVDs for $19.99-$24.99 whereas every other store sells them for $19.99 or less. I've bought "pre-viewed" DVDs before from them, but only when they ran the 3 for $20 deal a while back. Their prices for previewed DVDs are high as well for being used. And I wouldn't even consider DVD rentals at $5 a pop. In fact, thats sorta why Im doing their online rental thing for $20 a month/3 DVDs at a time. I've actually been very pleased with it. razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2004 I did the trade in for the Game Rush section of the store. It had used GBA games for cheap: $7 Fire Pro, $15 Zelda, $15 Castlevania SOTN new. I also seen the Chapelle Show go for $12 used and the Lord of the Rings 2 disc sets in the 2 for $20 deal.
