WWF Superstars

Recommended Posts

I remember as a kid watching Superstars/Wrestling Challenge, when a heel tag team would face a team consisting of a jobber and someone like Hercules or Koko B. Ware. The known guy would start the match off and get some of his token offense in, giving me hope that they could pull it off, but then of course he tags the jobber who promptly gets his ass kicked.

^^^ Ah yes, good times. I seem to remember Hillbilly Jim and Tito Santana filling those roles as well.

It was even neat that they had different classes of jobbers. You had your credible jobbers like Tim Horner, Jim Powers, Iron Mike Sharpe, Barry O, and others. But then you had your jobbers who got little-no offense at all like Red Tyler, Tom Stone, Brain Costello, and of course a host of others.

When I started watching as a kid, the main face jobbers were Powers & Brunzell. You had Bob Bradley and Brawler on the heel side. I remember a jobber being given a countout win over DiBiase to advance the Virgil angle, and Tom Stone a DQ win over Roberts to advance the Martel angle.

Graham, wasn't sure where this should go:

A comment on...

WWF @ Philadelphia, PA - First Union Center - November 29, 1998

Steve Austin defeated WWF World Champino the Rock, the Undertaker, and Kane in a non-title match with the Stunner; the Big Bossman was the special referee for the bout but another referee made the pinfall after Bossman was knocked out

Super Astros - 12/13/98:

El Hijo Del Santo pinned Jose Estrada Jr. with a victory roll at 4:32

El Torito pinned Mini Nova at 3:19 with a plancha

Apollo Dantes fought Negro Casas to a double disqualification after Jose Estrada Jr. and El Hijo Del Santo interfered

Sunday Night Heat - shown live

** Comment

Heat wasn't shown live.

I was at the taping, which began at 1 pm, in Philly, ended around 4 pm. Heat aired at 7 pm I believe, on USA.

The other results, were

1. Christian defeated WWE Light-Heavyweight Champion Duane Gill by Disqualification. I do believe this marked the debut of The Blue Meanie, to help Gill retain.

2. D'Lo Brown defeated Steve Blackman by countout.

3. The Godfather and Val Venis defeated The Headbangers.

4. WWE European Champion X-Pac pinned Mark Henry.

5. Kane defeated Jeff Jarrett by Disqualification.

6. The Big Boss Man and Ken Shamrock defeated Al Snow and Mankind.

Notes: This had one of the first, if not the first, of Jeff Jarrett's "Do you know what pisses me off?" Vignettes air before his match. In this instance it was, "Do you know what pisses me off? The New York Yankees."

Also, a "Blue Blazer" interfered towards one of the end of the matches. It was a chubby black man in the outfit.

The Undertaker & Ahmed Johnson defeated Farooq & Mankind in a Texas Death Match after the Undertaker hit Mankind with a chair so he couldn't get to his feet by the 10 count; earlier falls - Mankind defeated the Undertaker with the Mandible Claw; the Undertaker pinned Mankind with the tombstone

Steve Austin fought Vader to a double count-out after about 1 minute

WWF IC Champion Hunter Hearst Helmsley pinned Jake Roberts with his feet on the ropes

WWF World Champion Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart and Psycho Sid in a triple threat match by pinning Hart with a flying bodypress as Hart attempted to put Sid in the Sharpshooter

*Note: The Austin/Vader match was billed as a "Special Tough Man Match".
