*"Smackdown" did a 3.4 rating on Thursday night, their highest rating since March 18th of this year when they did a 3.6, which was the week after "WrestleMania XX".

Well, CCC is going to get a mega push for sure now.

Man, losing my market apparently was a boon.

I keep telling my friends that Smackdown has been getting better but I still can't convince them to watch it again. It just seems like a fresher product.

I like what they are doing across the board. I like London/Kidman. I like Charlie Haas and Jackie. They've even made Heidenreich interesting, he's got a little bit of a new generation Psycho Sid thing going on. Rey Rey and RVD are an interesting team although I would have liked to have seen them against London/Kidman before their split. JBL is entertaining, I think it sucks that he's champion however, his character doesn't need the belt to be entertaining. I'd like to see them come to their senses with Cena and push him as a heel or tweener. His act is weak as a babyface. I still wish they had Spanky and Jamie Noble but oh well. Carlito was awesome on the mic and he definitely has a star presence, I'm not sold on his ring work yet but give it time. He did a great job Thursday.

The show is just looking better, I don't know if it's Paul Heyman's slight influence or just the fact that Bruce Pritchard is gone.

Yeah, of course the crappy episode is the one that draws the ratings. Heidenreich's stupid poetry and Bob Holly pretty much ruined the show for me, and now I have to see Holly get a goddamned title shot next week. The Rey/Kenzo match could have been the best one on the show, but it was just too damn short. I have high hopes for the Rey/RVD tag team, seeing as face tag teams eventually split up and feud. The London/Kidman rivalry will be good if they go any further with it, and it seems like they will. I'm fine with the Angle/Bald Show rivalry too. Fuck, Show looks crazy with the shaved head. JBL sucks wrestling-wise, but he's doing his job and doing it well from a strictly character standpoint, even though it doesn't seem like he really gets that much heat. It's entertaining to me though and his audacity to claim that he wins his matches fairly makes me laugh.

I imagine that the rating was higher because of Carlito's debut, which means the promo vignettes worked out. It seems like fresh faces help ratings and get bored fans into the product since there's someone new to check out. I'm holding my judgment on CCC until I can actually see him, ya know, wrestle. One match in which the kid gets his ass handed to him but gets a lucky victory is not good enough. I know some people on here are already burying the guy as a shitty wrestler, but he seems like he's in his early 20s...so with time, he should improve. I was surprised that Michael Cole brought up that he is the son of Carlos Colon. But really, his name ought to be "The Caribbean Cool" Carlito Colon. I dunno, it works for me. It would have been a much more intelligent decision to actually have him work his way up to US title contention, because then you wouldn't have had the dead reaction to his win like there was last night. I'd like to see where they go with the story behind the match...while the commentators weren't pointing it out, it seemed like Cena wasn't taking CCC as seriously as he should have and lost big time as a result.

So yeah, not really that good of a show, but in the past month I've noticed that Smackdown is getting a lot better. Everyone featured recently has had something to do and they're getting back to trying to give fans reasons to like or dislike the wrestlers they put on TV. Now if only they could give some of these characters a little bit more depth and kind of a backstory like Luther Reigns. Knowing what he's been through makes me think he's more of a badass than I did when he was just Kurt Angle's silent lackey.

There's my two cents. I should start posting more perhaps.

I watched the first segment, and I'm actually not quite hating the approach to Smackdown right now. The idea of making it a total old-school thing with cartoony gimmicks and whatnot seems like a bad ideas and in many ways it is, but it has this perverse "My god, this show is totally nuts and it embraces that." factor to it. I mean, the WWE Champ is an evil conservative stockbroker, the US Champ is an obnoxious Puerto Rican (that's what he is, right?) with an afro who spits chewed up apples on people, and the tag champs are a stereotypical Frenchman and a Japanese guy who fawns over the United States. That is just pure full-on insanity and it's hilarious.

Raw, meanwhile, is beginning to grow old, because it feels like the same product each and every week. So, yeah, either Smackdown is becoming a much more interesting show to watch or the fact that it's 3:35 AM as I write this is working against me.

I think they have greatly benefitted from Big Show's return and Angle wrestling again. Its had a trickle down effect in that there are more over guys that the fans percieve as stars on the show, and most of the segments seem watchable. They are also putting new people in new places, which is always a good thing.

Thats actually why I've always liked SD over RAW. On RAW you have a better chance of seeing more great matches, but you always get the same 10-12 guys in the same spots. There's very little movement, and it gets stale. I mean this is beating a dead horse but HHH as the dominant heel champ with no opposition is boring to me. What do we have to look forward to at the next PPV HHH v Benoit or HHH vs HBK? Wow! haven't seen those a hundred times.....this year!

Dont get me wrong, SD has a lot of probelms, and they too keep certain guys on top, but at least with Taker he's not always in the middle of the world title picture, and Angle to me still has steam as champ. And even though a lot of people have crapped on how they handled JBL's push to the title, at least its something fresh. I dont think we'd ever see that on RAW. Now you could argue thats a good thing, but the point is, they took a shot, and tried something new. Hey if it doesn't work, you can always go back to something safe (like Angle as champ). But to me I prefer a show where guys can move from one spot to another instead of a show where I can put it on and ask "Didn't I see this exact same card 5 months ago?"

I think he's half-Jewish. I could swear I heard of an interview where he said he grew up on matzo ball tacos.

Oh, and Cena jobbing = ratings.
