LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 A postseason acquisition I see likely that no one has mentioned for the Yankees is Nomar. I believe, especially seeing he is a free agent, Yankees will attempt to have Nomar at 2nd base. They are going to replace some pitching and there is no big name at 1st or 2nd yet. Brown is no doubt done. I see Nomar and Randy Johnson as Yankees almost for certain next year. I did not know Clement was an option, but I see the Yankees trying to get someone maybe like Zito and still being after Carlos Delgado.
Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 I see Nomar and Randy Johnson as Yankees almost for certain next year. Out of curiosity, what exactly would they trade to get Johnson? At the trade deadline, Randy Johnson for Vasquez was the popular rumour I heard, but I'd assume that Vasquez's value would be down at this point, especially after his poor playoff performance. So, who would they trade who Arizona would want?
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 I know Anglesault was ranting about the Wrath of George, but based on this series who would you get rid of? There's always goats like Vasquez and Brown, which are obvious. Can't really get rid of A-Rod and I doubt Sheff either. I dare say the biggest goat was Rivera in this series, he's the one who gave up 2 games when the Yankees could have won it before the momentum shifted. And let's face it, you aren't going to win it all when your big stopper is Jon Lieber. Yeah I know he pitched way over his head in this series, but at the end of the day it's still Jon Lieber. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 The problem with the Yankees is a lack of depth. They need to address that issue this offseason. They carried Tony Clark, Enrique Wilson, and Felix Heredia on their postseason roster. That is inexcusable. The Yanks need to take a look at players like Craig Counsell to fill out their bench, and they badly need to bolster their pitching staff.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 BPro is a great read - you'll definitely want to grab the 2005 version whenever you start scouting around for fantasy baseball information. Speaking of which, when do the new editions normally come out? Usually the new edition drops in mid to late February.

I don't want someone to insult his hairdo and leave him crying on the bench for an entire game.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 22, 2004 At least there's a saving grace for the Yankees. Our setup man is puking in the bullpen, the Captain is distraught, Bernie looked like he's going to the electric chair, and I think Kevin Brown just shot himself. But A-Rod appears to have gotten over this series. And yes, we have found a scapegoat. You always need one.
Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 But A-Rod appears to have gotten over this series. Well, he has 25 million reasons to do so. It's not like he's ever been to the World Series as it is.

It's not like he's ever been to the World Series as it is. General opinion around here. It's somewhat distressing to expect the best player in baseball and somehow get the third best player on the team, but when he collapses in October and manages to fuck everything further in Game Six, we get annoyed. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 Odds are the Yanks will be in the thick of things again next year. With Randy Johnson, Barry Zito, Eric Milton, even Billy Wagner or BJ Ryan, Carl Pavano or Matt Clement, and Carlos Beltran being talked about, I expect them to make some of those moves. "I'm coming back stronger and hungrier next year." He's going to be stronger, hungrier, and better next year!

Kind of a weak pitching group there. Beltran is a must. I take Johnson and maybe Ryan as well.

I'd live with Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina, Matt Clement, John Lieber, and a 5th starter, who I have no idea who it would be. Possibly El Duque or Loaiza. El Duque did express interest in returning. If he's healthy, why not? Then again, if he's healthy.

I really could do without that for one year.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 He didn't pitch bad at all in last year's NLCS. Weaver did in this year's. Of course if Pavano's available, and wants to come to NY, you'd take him first in a heartbeat. But either one of them, or Eric Milton. Milton ain't bad either. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 22, 2004 He didn't pitch bad at all in last year's NLCS. Young pitchers come to the Yankees to die. It's really becoming alarming.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 22, 2004 Who else is out there though? Milton could fill the void. We have enough mediocre pitchers to last a lifetime. Go for Wells.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 Milton has pitched very well in big games before. Weaver and Vazquez hadn't before the years in pinstripes. If Wells is available, I guess.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 22, 2004 Milton has pitched very well in big games before. So has Wells. And he'll give you a good regular season.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 Wells isn't going to pitch for 5 more years though. Although I wouldn't mind having him on the team, he shouldn't be the next guy you get after Randy Johnson.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 22, 2004 (edited) Wells isn't going to pitch for 5 more years though. Although I wouldn't mind having him on the team, he shouldn't be the next guy you get after Randy Johnson. I'd rather have two good pitchers for two years in Johnson and Wells than a bunch of average/medicore/passable pitchers for five. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 Milton is above average, according to his postseason record. Kevin Brown was suppose to be atleast as good as David Wells, but like Wells he's old, and he's breaking down. I don't want to see Wells leave the game because of his back again. All i'm saying is Wells should be the 3rd option in searching for a pitcher at best. Randy Johnson is clear cut number one, and someone like Milton or Pavano (has pitched under pressure as well) should be number two. It's not like Jeff Weaver and Vazquez who had only pitched for bad teams before the Yankees.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 22, 2004 Milton is above average, according to his postseason record. We have to get to the postseason first. I know ERA can't be the be all and end all, but 4.75 in the NL is hideous.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2004 We got there with Mussina, Lieber, Brown, Vazquez, Halsey, Loaiza, El Duque, Contreras and Sturtze. Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina, Eric Milton, David Wells, and Loaiza/El Duque can't be that bad.

Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina, Eric Milton, David Wells, and Loaiza/El Duque can't be that bad. Still, deadweight for five months is not exactly ideal. Especially when you're basing this on three post season games, only two of which he started. And why is Loaiza on the new team?
