(Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez) "Team America: World Police" My predictions from last week: 1. Shark Tale 2. Friday Night Lights 3. Ladder 49 4. Taxi 5. The Forgotten 6 or lower. Raise Your Voice I rule.
Guest ArchoanJB Posted October 10, 2004 Report Posted October 10, 2004 I was right on the money for Raise your Voice, between 4-5 million. Pretty much what everybody except Mr. Barron was expecting. Friday Night Lights at my theatre did really well, selling out both nights at the 7 set.
bob_barron Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I didn't expect Shark Tale to hold up so well in week 2. I think that really cut into the audience for Raise Your Voice. NewLine can go suck a dick. They really should've released the movie on the 22nd
AndrewTS Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Taxi: $12 million worth of people who went to see Queen Latifah. I repeat--WHO THE **** WOULD GO TO SEE A MOVIE FOR JIMMY FALLON!?
Vyce Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I didn't expect Shark Tale to hold up so well in week 2. I think that really cut into the audience for Raise Your Voice. NewLine can go suck a dick. They really should've released the movie on the 22nd Feh. Much as I have a taste for her and her jailbait antics, Duff can't open a movie - but Lohan can.
bob_barron Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Actually Duff can open a movie. She's opened 3 and many people credit her for some of Cheaper's success. Lohan can't on her own. Freaky Friday had the Disney name and Mean Girls had the SNL thing, good reviews and relentless marketing. But this movie bombed.
Exslade ZX Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Actually Duff can open a movie. She's opened 3 and many people credit her for some of Cheaper's success. Lohan can't on her own. Freaky Friday had the Disney name and Mean Girls had the SNL thing, good reviews and relentless marketing. But this movie bombed. I still say....what SNL thing? Tina Fey and Tim Brown (?).....Seriously, most people who went to see that movie (That I know of personally) definitely didn't go for either one of them. Taxi: $12 million worth of people who went to see Queen Latifah. I repeat--WHO THE **** WOULD GO TO SEE A MOVIE FOR JIMMY FALLON!? I would... I mean...not for Jimmy Fallon, but overally it doesn't look like that horrible of a movie. Maybe for all the 'movie buffs' who hate everything that isn't a..."work of art" or "something underground" it may instantly be called shit, ,but it looks decent enough, and I actually believe I'd get some laughs out of it..I liked Bringing down the house...this probaly won't be worse..
cabbageboy Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 When has an SNL connection really ever helped a movie a huge amount? I mean since stuff like Blues Bros. or Coneheads. If anything when I hear "This movie has SNL ties" I tend to think it's just a bad comedy based on a skit.
bob_barron Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 If Mean Girls just relies on teens it doesn't make 85 million. Mean Girls did better then expected because of the massive press Tina Fey did for the movie and the reviews. It drew in the adult audience and many people who wouldn't have given the movie a second thought had it not been on for. Look at Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Bombed.
Guest ArchoanJB Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 And it still made DOUBLE what Voice made on its opening weekend...
AndrewTS Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Taxi: $12 million worth of people who went to see Queen Latifah. I repeat--WHO THE **** WOULD GO TO SEE A MOVIE FOR JIMMY FALLON!? Yeah, because if you think "White Chicks" or "The Cookout" is shit you're an elitist. Seriously--you're painting of critics is worse than how you think they are. A studio thought JIMMY FALLON could pull his own weight to co-star in a movie. JIMMY FALLON!!
bob_barron Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 And it still made DOUBLE what Voice made on its opening weekend... Did I even attempt to defend Raise Your Voice? No. It flopped badly although it was a great movie. Cliche but a great movie- Hilary is really showing growth as an actress. New Line really screwed this up
bob_barron Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Because Jimmy Fallon does have a devoted female fanbase. I've met them many times. I understand why they made a movie for him- didnt have to make it suck
AndrewTS Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Because Jimmy Fallon does have a devoted female fanbase. I've met them many times. Barron's met Fallon's entire fanbase?
Ted the Poster Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Barron has to stop the jailbait thing within like five years if he ever wants an actual relationship.
bob_barron Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I've pretty much met Jimmy's entire fanbase. Scary people. Hilary's 17- she's legal in NY. Good enough for me.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 In my opinion, even though it looks like crap, I think Team America might be #1. Next week: 1. Team America: World Police 2. Shark Tale 3. Friday Night Lights 4. Shall We Dance 5. Ladder 49
bob_barron Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I'd argue with you but I think I need to take a week off predicting
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Don't mess with the master... Just playing.
