the max 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Half of New England will call into work "Sox" tomorrow "Yeah I can't come in to work today, the Sox won the World Series..." My best friend convinced his boss that they should get the day off as a celebration.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Also, I just remembered... Remember at the beginning of the ALCS when Fox was doing the Star Wars parody with the Sox and Yankees (to coincide with the DVD release of course)? If the ALCS was our Return of the Jedi... was the WS our Episode One?
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 *Darth Vader voice* This will be a year long remembered in history. It has saw the fall of the Lakers and the destruction of the Yankee empire. The circle is now complete."
Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 This certainly has been a year for the "non-traditional" teams to win championships Patriots, LSU, the Lakers losing, Tampa fucking Bay winning the (possibly last) Stanley Cup, and now this Just think if the Pats win two in a row. the max 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Is school closed tomorrow in Boston? God no. Tomorrow, the poor Massachusetts schools will be teaching classes based on Red Sox curriculum. "And then Butch Hobson was succeeded by Kevin Kennedy, who looked like? Joey?" "A male porno star?" "Correct, Joey. Good work. For extra credit, what movie was Kevin Kennedy famous for?" Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted October 28, 2004 There are like 6 people who deserves the MVP ahead of Manny, for real. Whom? 1. Foulke 2. Ortiz 3. Schilling 4. Lowe 5. Damon Sorry, 5 higher than manny.
treble 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 So, the Sox win 86 years after their last World Series ('18) and 18 years after they lost the last time they made it ('86). Weird.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I like how Harold Renyolds is now saying the cardinals overachieved and never should have been there. He brings a good point that the Cardinals were never supposed to be there that this season was really just creating the nucleus with Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen and building around them. There's no question that St. Louis just as much as New York is desperate for quality starters.
Guest Brian Report post Posted October 28, 2004 There are like 6 people who deserves the MVP ahead of Manny, for real. Whom? 1. Foulke 2. Ortiz 3. Schilling 4. Lowe 5. Damon Sorry, 5 higher than manny. I'll go with the hitters first: G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB K OBP SGP AVG Damon: 4 21 4 6 2 1 1 2 13 0 1 .286 .619 .286 Ortiz: 4 13 3 4 1 0 1 4 8 4 1 .471 .615 .308 Ramirez: 4 17 2 7 0 0 1 4 10 3 3 .500 .588 .412 Most of the totals are relatively close, but Manny smoked both these guys by 100 points in batting average. Damon's not really that close considering his OBP is 200 points lower for a lead-off man. Ortiz and Manny's numbers are very comparable. I'd be very pressed to give any pitcher besides Foulke the nod in a four-game series since they only had a single performance each, thus only contributing to one win. Foulke, as I've said before, was a contender for the award.

phoenixrising 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I still can't believe the freaking RED SOX won a Series. I think hell froze over. Congrats to Red Sox fans, at least you won't have a curse to talk about anymore.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 What about people like Cartman? Don't they taint the victory worse? Take the Red Sox out of the sig when they are down 3-0 and move to the Patriots and then all of a sudden get back into it. As a fan, he should be ashamed of himself. sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Congratulations to the Red Sox and their fans. Enjoy it. You have certainly earned it. Maybe my Cubbies will be next. What sucks for me is that my planned trip to Fenway next year might have just gotten a little more complicated, as I imagine a decent seat will now come at a much heftier price. Perfect. Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 After repeating it so damn much, I firmly believe that it was Muggy that got the Sox this world series. I'd also like to express gratitude to Lowe, Pedro and Fat Curt, who pitched like the excellent rotation they were advertised as. Foulke, for closing all four games. Manny, Damon... This was just incredible, man. It would mean so much more if I'd been watching longer, but even right now... it's so awesome. Heh, thanks Chuck. It's been said before... but I'll say it again.... THE MOTHERFUCKING RED SOX HAVE WON A WORLD FUCKING SERIES! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow... I'm just loving this. Dam was right with what he said earlier. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 The curse of A-Rod is in effect now. Wow it's the day after and I'm still feeling it. There's going to be this buzz for a while. Now it's time for my other Boston team(the Celtics)to rise to prominence. *sigh* I'm with yeah Celtics just keep trying....but at least Boston has something else to be proud of other than the Patriots! Whoo! And hey a team from Boston that I'm actually a fan of won.

NYU 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 And with that, this thread can now be officially closed. Everything has gone full-circle. From Barron not having a hat to having a hat to not having a hat once again. From Damaramu not knowing anything about baseball to being the biggest Sox fan in the world. From Muggy possibly being considered a jinx to being considered the savior of the Boston Red Sox. Fine history in this thread.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Never said I was the biggest Sox fan in the history of the world. Just that they're my favorite baseball team and I liked them before I knew shit about baseball. The circle will be complete when the Celtics win another. Gert T 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Congrats again to the Red Sox again. The hitters always went for the jugular, and the pitchers did great. As a Cards fan it was a bit of a surreal and a numb feeling, it was almost like the series did not happen, it was just over so quickly. Good job Sox & congrats fans, and hopefully we'll see you back in the WS next year.

KingPK 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 So the parade is at 10AM Saturday, starting near Fenway and ending near City Hall. No rally? I thought I heard they might not do one because of all the people (and there will be a shitload of people there; I went to the Pats parade in February, and I thought there were a lot of people THEN.) This title is really for guys like my dad and his friends, who were around for '86, '75, and in some cases, '46 (my dad was in the bleachers for Game 6 in '75). I mean, I'm estatic, but I was only FOUR in 1986, so I barely remember what happened. The real "tortured" fans are people over 30, not the drunk college kids. Sorry, I'm babbling. *Passes the Torch of Torment to Cubs fans*
