Continually today's ad theme of "Animals"

here's the latest from the DNC -

"Eagle"

http://www.democrats.org/

I wouldn't mind if the remaining ads of this election involved comparisons to animals.

"The ant works hard.. but.." *ant is squashed* "Under tax hikes, his hope of working is gone, for his job is gone, and he is left in pain"

"The Deer runs fast, looks good, and when in danger, it freezes. Vote for capable leadership"

"Some say a group of killer bees is coming for us, some say they stopped their rise. Isn't it best to be strong, if the bees come for us?"

"Some animals don't do anything productive. So do some humans. But we give welfare to the humans. End the double standard. End Welfare Now!"

Aww yeah..

The left is full of Wolf-appeasers:

TPM:

Special Late-Breaking Bush Slime Update: After having watched this ad, as opposed to the still shots, I have to say that I didn't find it all that effective. I can't point to any one thing; it's just not that scary, not even that effective by the special standards used to evaluate lying right-wing slime and scare-mongering, a whole artform worthy of careful critical study.

(..)

Don't get me wrong. I'm not naive enough to believe that that kind of lie can't be effective. I just don't think it's used all that effectively in this ad. The forest motif isn't all that chilling -- though it may appeal to certain aspects of the Bush hunter-gatherer mindset. And even the wolves aren't as frightening as they might be. I'll bet even my dog Simon -- who's now bulked up to about 7 pounds -- could hold his own with these guys. At least for a while.

Atrios:

Priceless

The look on the righty co-host's face on Crossfire when the audience laughed after they broadcast the "puppies" ad...

After seeing the full ad, instead of just the script and still photos, I'm laughing. That ad's going to become a camp classic.

ooooo....spoooooky puppies...

Ezra Klein:

In other news, Sinclair is a dupe of the NRA and I can no longer vote for John Kerry. I know, it's a big turnaround, but I demand a strong stance against underfed wolves freely roaming the forests of America. For John Kerry to side with the wolves is inexcusable, and his efforts to cut the CIA's anti-wolf intelligence budget are shocking. Our nation suffers from a critical shortage of Native American wolf-trackers with adequate training in the language of the forest. Our only chance is to vote for Marc Singer from The Beastmaster, and I for one will proudly write in his name come election day.

The Wildlife Defense Fund ( http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/041022/dcf047_1.html ):

The Bush-Cheney campaign's most recent bizarre political commercial, 'Wolves,' misuses the imagery of wolves to try to instill fear in the voting public.

How ironic for George Bush, who has been the most anti-wildlife president ever, to turn to the very symbol of endangered wildlife in America -- the wolf -- for assistance in perpetuating his administration. Wolf recovery in parts of America, no thanks to this administration, represents one of the great success stories of wildlife conservation in this country. This is the last day of Wolf Awareness Week, and a chief purpose is to help educate the public that the myths about wolves being threats to humans, are just that, myths. But the Bush campaign is using that fictitious stereotype in a manner that instills false fear.

President Bush's Department of the Interior is proposing to remove endangered species protections that the wolf needs to continue to survive. In fact there are lawsuits pending against the Bush Interior Department that challenge their anti-wolf actions across the country. Also, even though petitioned to do so, the Bush Interior Department refuses to use the Federal Airborne Hunting Act to stop the outrageous and unethical shooting of wolves from airplanes in Alaska. Right now there is a proposal in Alaska to expand aerial wolf killing to include an additional 50,000 square miles of land.

Wolves have suffered from unjust persecution for centuries, but the real 'wolf at their door' right now, is the Bush presidential campaign which threatens four more years of anti-wildlife policies.

Finally, it is worth pointing out that a wolf is a fierce defender of its homeland and it has learned that when it attacks, it needs to work with others to maximize its chance of success.

It's a horde of pro-Wolf posters. Bush will eliminate the evil wolf. Somehow.

that caption sorta makes the photo for me.

but this ad will get the Three Little Pigs to endorse Bush for re-election

This is similiar to Reagan 1980 Bears in Woods ad about the Commies.

Check followed by Mate!

I mentioned that. It was 1984. And the Bear ad topped this ad. The Bear ad didn't mention anybody by name and it didn't have to, the messege got out. This ad took the concept of an animal, removed what made it work (the subtle messege), and put it out.

I feel dumber having to read anything from Atrios and Ezra Klein.

Couldn't you post intelligent or competent writers?

Eagles are pussies? are you a fan of the turkey or something?

It's a proven fact that eagles are above Dachshunds in toughness, if that counts for much.

Hopefully you don't get added to an airport watchlist of "Wolf Lovers". The last thing we want is another wolf-related tragedy in our skies.

Don't know why I'm interested in this but...

There have been no documented incidences of people killed by wolves in North America in the last 50 years and you're more likely to be killed by lightning than by a wolf.

Rabies is the main culprit in the rare cases when wolves actually kill people.

Let's find a new animal to demonize. I suggest toucans. Fuck Froot Loops.

Bumping this because I just saw the ad, and oh man, those are the most roly-poly wolves I've ever seen. I seriously want to hug them and feed them all cookies.

This ad clearly should have been titled "Velociraptors."

Alright, who let the wolves out?

Woof Woof Woof.

Eh, I think I'll rather go with Rancid's "And Out Come the Wolves..."

Man I love that album... I can imagine starting a commercial off with Maxwell Murder...
