Being sick is no good at all

Recommended Posts

Guest Regina Phelange

Being sick definitely sucks... if your sputum/phlegm is brown there's likely old blood in it, probably from persistent coughing. All the Sudafed in the world isn't gonna help, most of that stuff on the market is essentially crap. The stuff for nighttime, however can sometimes be effective, which might allow you to stop coughing your lungs up and get some sleep.

Drink LOTS of water and squeeze a quarter of a lemon in each glass.

Coffee can actually act as a bronchodilator, so have a cup of joe.

If coffee's not your thing any of the recipes in this thread sound reasonable...hot and sour soup from your closest Chinese take-out is sure to do the trick.

If your symptoms don't resolve and your phlegm turns that scary shade of green everyone's talking about, consider going to your doctor (easy for me to say, I live in Canada! Woo-hoo!). Seriously, though, stay away from people, wash your hands, and when all this is over get a new toothbrush.

Damnstraight. If Jim had gone to the doctor, rather than be a REAL MAN, he might still be alive.

Nah, Jim went after he was having serious breathing problems from falling out a window in early 1971. He just never took the prescription. People like to point to this as contributing to his death.

I had the same shit as u...

I went to the hospital Sunday night and they had like 10 other cases of it.

I got given some tablets and a nebuliser to clear the shit outta my throat and i was sent home.

DO NOT leave it as it gets worse in the night.

Go to the DOC...you wont wait to long in the emergency room if u make it clear that u have breathing difficulties.

The fact is, mine keeps going up and down. Some days I am fine, others ridiculously congested. Today I am coughing my ass off, like something needs to come up, but nothing does. I am about to pull the old supermodel trick to see if it clears me up at all.

6 A.M. UPDATE

I now have a debilitating earache to add to my list of woes.

Eh? What's so bad about green phlem - I've been coughing it up for the last few days (that's not intended in some macho thing or anything - I'd like to know whats wrong with me).

I just assumed I had a mild cold (slight blocked up nose and sore throat accompanied this coughing - but as a smoker I guessed I'd just agrivated my cough a little with the smoking). Perhaps my standard philosophy on illness (do nothing and hope it goes away) may not have been the best course to take.

People really overrate longevity.

My newest symptom is a little blood when I blow my nose, and what looked like either a scab or a blood clot coming up during a rather painful bout of coughing. But, stubborn ass me will just continue to use my self prescribed NyQuil. Man, having insurance is pretty important, huh?

It's AIDS isn't it? God, finally...............

Nah, I mean, what the hell is causing the inside of my throat to scab over? I mean, I can taste it and feel it now, and like I said before, there was definitely something that looked like a clot or a scab I coughed up earlier.

Excessive coughing and straining, with dryness. The blood's probably either from your lungs or else coming down from your sinuses, which are much more likely to be dry, cracked, and packed with infection.

Man, but it's fuckin Friday. This is definitely going to cut into my drinking time. BTW, I've done a little reading up on my symptoms, and apparently, it is either Strep Throat or Mono.

I think mono is a myth. I've smoked joints with people who have mono, kissed girls that probably had mono, and have never gotten it. Even if it is mono, that's viral and there's absolutely nothing the doctor can do for it other than check to see if your spleen is inflamed.

If it's strep, which wouldn't surprise me, then yeah, you're going to need some antibiotics, but earaches and congestion don't match up with that, really. You've got a fuckin' cold.

Don't let it cut into your drinking time Jaxl. Alcohol kills bacteria, therefore making you better.

That's my stance, and I'm sticking by it. I'm not interested in hearing otherwise.

Here's a recap of my night so far..............

COUGH COUGH COUGH

<place head over toilet to vomit, nothing comes out>

COUGH COUGH COUGH

<place head over toilet to vomit, nothing comes out>

Lather, rinse, repeat

Fucking shit. My throat is closing up and burns all the time. Waking up is misery due to the dryness and it doesn't get better. There's no phlegm or anything.

Diagnose please.

Dehydration.

A cold.

By the way, don't touch things like doorknobs, escalator or stairway railings, or pay phones. They're disgusting.
