Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 And you sound disappointed. This wasn't there when I first responded. I'd be disappointed if they got Ben Sheets. As it is they traded all but one of their trade-able chips away(last one being Duncan who's about 3 years away) for a pitcher closer to retirement than his prime. Buster Olney said the Yankees are a lock to win 120 games next season on ESPNEWS just now
Brett Favre Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Randy Johnson, healthy Mike Mussina, the same Pavano of 2004, a sane Kevin Brown, and a healthy Jaret Wright is a pretty good staff. If we get Beltran, he might not be so far off. Although that would mean that we somehow manage to get a servicable bench.
KingPK Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Yankees still have zero bench depth (Dave Roberts was "just a bench player" too), so injuries will murder them, and they have nothing to put up if they have to replace a Sheffield or even a Jeter or A-Rod.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Those are a lot of ifs as far as I see it. I think the Yankees are a 100 win team if everybody stays healthy. If Wright and Brown go down and Pavano doesn't meet expectations then there are going to be riots since NY has nothing to trade to bolster the staff now. Red Sox have alot of ifs in their pitching staff as well, but they have alot of trading chips if they need to fix it.
MikeJordan23 Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Looks like the Cardinals signed Roberto Alomar to a one year deal. Whoop-tee Doo.
NYU Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 I couldn't possibly care any less about this Randy Johnson stuff anymore. Let's move onto the shameless financial whoring for Carlos Beltran now, shall we?
DerangedHermit Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Looks like the Cardinals signed Roberto Alomar to a one year deal. Whoop-tee Doo. Renteria/Womack > Eckstein/Alomar With the Yankees getting RJ, I'd like to see the Subway Series matchup of Pedro and RJ. I'd like to see the Mets trade with the Red Sox (maybe for Mientkiewcz or Millar, longshot for Manny) if they don't get Beltran or Delgado.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 You can have Millar for Eric Valent. Deal?
Guest Wart Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Where did you hear about the Yankees backing off of Beltran?
DerangedHermit Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 You can have Millar for Eric Valent. Deal? Joe McEwing? Jason Phillips? Tino's a Yank again. http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb...s_mlb&fext=.jsp Wart, I'm trying to find the link....fuck, can't find it. I'll edit it out.
Brett Favre Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Atleast we are getting there with the depth. Tino should be a good addition. Wow, he had a .362 OBP last year.
DerangedHermit Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Buster Olney said the Yankees are a lock to win 120 games next season on ESPNEWS just now Buster Olney is an asshole.
Precious Roy Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Finally we got Johnson, and we got him for exactly what I said we'd get him for back when the trades were first broken off way back when. Just a matter of waiting em out, I knew Arizona would crack. We're only a piece or two away now. Be afraid American League, be very afraid....
The Czech Republic Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I assume by "American League," you mean Boston, because the AL East arms race is the only thing that matters in the whole league. The A's are a curiosity, the Comedy Central looks to be back. The NL is the better league, I feel.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 With a move or two to strengthen their pitching staff I think Anaheim is going to be a force in the AL as well.
MikeJordan23 Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I assume by "American League," you mean Boston, because the AL East arms race is the only thing that matters in the whole league. The A's are a curiosity, the Comedy Central looks to be back. The NL is the better league, I feel. Yeah, most def. The AL is more top heavy (Two best teams) while the NL has more good teams (Braves, Cards, Giants, Cubs, Astros, Padres, Dodgers, Phillies, Marlins).
The Czech Republic Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Yeah I forgot about Yankees West, Texas and Oakland should be able to keep them in check though
Brett Favre Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I was thinking Anaheim as well, but..it doesn't look like they're going to improve their pitching.
Precious Roy Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Minnesota scares me the most of any non-East team. Santana will be a year better, Nathan is a hoss, Mauer and Morneau are poised to break out, and they're solid across the board.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Anti-climatically, Beltran will stay with the Astros.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Anaheim has a good farm system and can trade for a top tier pitcher if one becomes available.
Brett Favre Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Anti-climatically, Beltran will stay with the Astros. EDIT: Holy crap I read this wrong.

Yeah I'm waiting for the Cubs-Cardinals-Astros arms race to heat up. Objectively speaking, I think the NL Central is the 2nd hottest division in baseball, maybe even better, who knows. Too bad that of the three matchups, we ended up with the one nobody cares about as the NLCS, but that might be Chicago bias kicking in. Or not?
The Czech Republic Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Anti-climatically, Beltran will stay with the Astros. He better fucking get out of the league, or at least the division, if he's not playing for us.
DerangedHermit Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Wart, I'm trying to find the link....fuck, can't find it. I'll edit it out. Apparently Bruce Levine on WMVP in Chicago saying it (that the Yanks are backing off of Beltran)...any confirmation from Chicago-area TSMers would be appreciated. As for now, I take it with a grain of salt. That (if true) would mean the Cubs, Astros, Mets and Tigers (!!!) would be the remaining suitors. It'll be down to the Mets and Astros unless the Cubs get rid of Sammy So-So.
Precious Roy Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I'd love to see Beltran go to Detroit, just to fuck with everyone
Brett Favre Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 So did Beltran stay with the Astros or what?
DerangedHermit Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 So did Beltran stay with the Astros or what? Huh? No, not yet...
Precious Roy Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I can't find anything supporting that claim, though I did find THIS
Precious Roy Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 And apparently there is mutual interest between the Cubs and Magglio Ordonez, so all is not lost Cubs fans.....
