Fro 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2004 TNA attempted to bring in Jushin Liger for this weekend's Victory Road PPV as he is in the United States to work at the Inoki Dojo in California and do several Ring of Honor appearances. TNA contacted ROH about getting Liger on the show, and at one point he was going to appear, but pulled out when he was asked to fly himself to the PPV as TNA was "giving him exposure", according to one source. I would assume they wanted to book him for the 20 man X-Division Gauntlet. What a bunch of knuckleheads... a domestic plane flight is chump change and I'm sure they'd get as many buys from smark fans to see Liger as they will for Nash and Hall. http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=6192&p=

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted October 31, 2004 If Liger was putting Jarrett over, TNA would have paid for his flight. I guess he exceeded the talent threshold for the company. -=Mike
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted October 31, 2004 It would've been nice to see the guy and everything but they shouldn't drop a ton of money on a guy who's only going to do 1 show for them.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted October 31, 2004 It wouldn't be the first time they "wasted" their money, at least with Liger you get a great worker. However, It would be a waste to use him in a battle Royal. Ring of Honor has him in two big huge matches (American Dragon and then a Tag match with Samoa Joe against Dragon and Low Ki) and are treating him huge respect. TNA really dropped the ball here, even though I laugh at the "More Exposure" shit. What exposure does Liger? a Legend really need? It's not like he was trying to break into the American scene again. razazteca 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2004 People should already know him from his time in WCW during the 90's........for the tequila bottle match against Juvi!
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted October 31, 2004 TNA has wasted money on Lex Luger, despite having no talent or any credibility left anywhere. Why couldn't they drop money for a talented worker that most "smart" fans have heard of? I'm pretty sure TNA's main audience is the internet fans, so why not bring in someone the internet LOVES? Fucking morons...
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted October 31, 2004 That was a shame right there. You had Liger for two shows (I think) and they wasted it on a Short match that involved a Tequilla bottle with Juvi. And Kidman was too nervous to even work with Liger effectively and that was wasted on a Thunder. I've always hoped McMahon, who loves to bring in legends would bring in Liger for a ultimate heel like Chavo was when he was holding the title for a long time that a Legend would be brought in and give Chavo a major rub there. But of course not, he had already a legend in his roster and ruined him (Ultimo). Mysterio's merch appeal is the only reason they even bother to have the supposed "Cruiserweight Divison". Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted October 31, 2004 Don't get me wrong, but isn't Liger about 45? Can't TNA find some new guys? IF Liger was the only granddad on the show, it would be one thing, but they are stacking this card thick with the senior circuit.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted October 31, 2004 His age means nothing when he's in a mask and besides, at 45 he kicks more ass then 97% of the workers in the world.

I don't doubt that, but does it not seem like they are recruiting for this PPV at the old folks home? Jeez, there's gotta be someone in their 20's that TNA could pick-up. True, but the jobs by Sasuke made people think that maybe there was something to Justin that none of us caught. I thought he sucked pretty hard --- but I've never liked Sasuke, either. -=Mike ...Have Liger put over, say, Chris Sabin and he's immediately a major X player again... Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted October 31, 2004 Liger could give a MASSIVE rub to an X Division guy. -=Mike ...Heck, Great Sasuke pretty well made Justin Credible --- and Justin utterly sucked... True, and that would actually be a good idea except for two things. 1) They've already got 10 other guys 40 plus. That's just an overload. If you can't build a decent PPV with your own roster, don't have a PPV. 2) They were apparently booking him in a battle royal. In other words, the only plan TNA had for him was to use his name for a few buys. They were not gonna use him to give someone the rub.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted October 31, 2004 TNA needs to bring La Parka back and push him. Why can't any company in the U.S. push the guy?
Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted October 31, 2004 TNA needs to bring La Parka back and push him. Why can't any company in the U.S. push the guy? I've only seen his WCW work, and while entertaining there, really did nothing for me in terms of work. Was his Lucha work that much better? Cause he does seem to have a big smark following. If you can't build a decent PPV with your own roster, don't have a PPV. Please note I've argued that TNA is thoroughly incapable of putting on a good 3 hour PPV with their roster for a while now. But, since it's happening, they need the help. And push Liger as the legend he is, have him play a heel giving some "undeserving" guy a shot at facing the best (Rocky had such a great storyline, didn't it?), then have Sabin beat him clean. Liger can still go pretty damned well, so it's not like you'll be watching Flair "put over" Orton or antthing here. 2) They were apparently booking him in a battle royal. In other words, the only plan TNA had for him was to use his name for a few buys. They were not gonna use him to give someone the rub. Oh, then that would be pretty fucking idiotic. Then again, battle royals suck. -=Mike

He isn't a great worker but the guy gets massively over when he works on a regular basis. He was over huge in WCW when they had him on a lot.

Guest Donners Report post Posted October 31, 2004 I guess it's not really worth forking out to have him as just one of 20 people in a Gauntlet match, where he really wouldn't have a chance to do much of anything. Wouldn't have minded seeing him in some capacity, though.

That match in 97 woulda smoked probably. Maybe Liger could make Hardy not suck again for one match. Jesus Christ and God in a triple threat match with him couldn't save him from sucking. As much as I like Liger, he wasn't much to speak of in his return to WCW and really has lost a step or two. If they wanted to bring him in, I agree with Mike. Only bring him in for a match to get someone over. But to do that, you'd have to have an angle ready for the wrestler he puts over and I don't trust TNA with angles of any kind. Odds are Sabin would beat him and then JJ would pin Sabin in 2 minutes on IMPACT the next week.
