JasonX 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2004 From TVShowsonDVD.com The Shield made history with the most Emmy nominations ever for a basic cable drama. It won a Golden Globe for Best Drama Series and star Michael Chiklis won the Emmy and Golden Globe awards for Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Get ready as this hard-hitting, award-winning cop drama returns with a vengeance for a pulse-pounding third season, on an exciting 4-DVD set: * Disc 1: o "Playing Tight" o "Blood and Water" o "Bottom Bitch" + Commentary by Scott Brazil, Michael Chiklis, Adam E. Fierro and Michael Jace o "Streaks and Tips" o Extras: + Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary by Shawn Ryan * Disc 2: o "Mum" + Commentary by Walton Goggins, Michael Hicks, Benito Martinez, Shawn Ryan and Kurt Sutter o "Posse Up" o "Safe" o "Cracking Ice" * Disc 3: o "Slipknot" + Commentary by Michael Chicklis, Walton Goggins, Kenneth Johnson, and David Snell o "What Power Is" o "Strays" o "Riceburner" * Disc 4: o "Fire in the Hole" + Commentary by Catherine Dent, Nicki Micheaux, CCH Pounder, and Cathy Cahlin Ryan o "All In" (Part 1) o "On Tilt" (Part 2) Other extras might be announced later. English, Spanish, and French sound is available on this set, each in 2.0 Stereo. There are also English and Spanish subtitles, too. Video, like the first two box sets, is 1.33:1 format. Look for a pricetag of $49.98 (SRP) in the USA, and north of the border the list price is CAN $69.98. That gets you 698 minutes of action with Michael Chiklis, who has kept busy between seasons by filming his role as Ben Grimm/The Thing in the new big-screen version of Marvel Comics' The Fantastic Four. Due to his filming schedule on that movie, the 4th season of The Shield doesn't start airing on FX until March 2005. Because of that small delay, the 3rd Season box set hits the stores on February 22nd. We'll have cover art for you as soon as we get it, so stay tuned. JasonX 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2004 Saw that yesterday. Wish it would come out a month or so sooner so I could sit down and rewatch the season before the new one. Without rushing anyway Delay or no delay I'm looking forward to the set coming out. One thing good about it is that they've apparently decided to bring back the cast to do commentary ala season one. But the selection of episodes receiving commentaries and who's doing which commentary is extremely puzzling. IIRC doesn't Walt Goggin only appear in two scenes in "Mum"? Also, wouldn't it make more sense to have the season premire (Playing Tight) be the one with the commentary track if they intend on pairing up Chiklis and Michael Jace up for a commentary track? Or in the case of the third disc, why not have the actors do commentary for "Riceburner" instead of "Slipknot", what with the fact that "Slipknot"'s A-Story focuses mainly on Claudette and not the Strike Team? Guest Starks Report post Posted November 3, 2004 Why is it in "full" frame 1.33 for this DVD set? A big selling point of this shows DVD set for me is that it's the only time you can get the show in widescreen. Why do they broadcast it in fullscreen then turn around and (normally) realease the show in the widescreen formatt?
The Dames 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2004 The show was never shot in widescreen.... Dames
Guest Starks Report post Posted November 3, 2004 Actually the show is shot in widescreen a quick bit of googling finds this: The first season of The Shield is available on DVD in four-disc box sets for Region 1 and Region 2 with identical extras, but one crucial difference: the American release frames the episodes in fullscreen, while the European release presents them in anamorphic widescreen. The show was shot in widescreen with fullscreen framing for broadcast TV in mind, but the wider space gives the busy frame a good deal more breathing room, also adding to the series sense of scope. The Region 2 release served as the basis for this review. The Region 1 DVD sets are all "full frame" while Regions 2 & 4 (that I know of) are anamorphic widescreen. Guess I'll be waiting for the local set rather then ordering from overseas.

Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2004 When does the new season start? The latest I've heard is March 2005, mostly due to the fact that Chiklis is working on the Fantastic Four movie and that has delayed shooting a little bit.
