This Week in College Football 11/2 - 11/6

Recommended Posts

2 losses in a row for the Hurricanes, second year in a row. If my boys beat Miami next week, it won't look as impressive...but it does look very possible. Unreal.

The Fog Bowl is crazy. USC is getting back into it, though, and I don't expect the Oregon State lead to last through the 3rd quarter. And if anyone's wondering, Utah's up 35-3 against Colorado State heading into the half. They're really, really good.

Edit: Make that 42-3. Yikes.

Come from behind win by Texas. That Big XII South is way to hard. They should put together an "All-Star" North team to play OU b/c well.....all those teams suck.

And Miami loses again! Oh man!

Now the ACC lead is a tie between UVa and VT (which makes Miss Slayer quite happy)

Of course, Miami has to play both of them. Beating both of the Virginia teams--certainly a possibility--would still give them the conference. But I like our chances. If Virginia/Virginia Tech is for the title this year...awesome.

Miami losing again tonight is sickening. I suppose I'm bitter because U of L should have taken them, but essentially what that game did was totally expose Miami's weaknesses for everyone else. Ah well, I kinda hope Utah gets screwed out of a major bowl so we can get Louisville vs. Utah in the Liberty Bowl. Let's see the Utes put up 49 on us....oh wait they probably COULD, but we could put it on them too. Besides, who else is U of L gonna play?

Anyway I am off to watch the Fog Bowl.

Here's something for thought:

If Notre Dame wins next week, they're likely going to the Gator Bowl. If Miami doesn't win the ACC, they'll still be likely to play in a New Years' Day bowl game. The ACC's tie-in I believe is the Gator Bowl.

That means that Notre Dame and Miami would most likely be playing each other for the first time since 1990, back in the Catholics vs. Convicts days.

If people want to penalize UO for having a tough time against Texas A&M, then they should be willing to do the same to USC for playing so tight against a crappy Oregon State team. Personally, I think a case could be made to have Auburn at #1 if they win out. Also, Wisconsin should move ahead of Cal in the rankings, after they killed Minnesota while Cal could barely beat Oregon.

I knew USC wouldn't stay down for long.

But what is it with the Top 2 teams having close calls?

Like you said, USC and OU were facing their last true test. Well OSU and A&M gave the top two teams a hell of a test.

Well yeah both teams did have their last test and appear to be on a collision course.

OU hasn't really looked like they were going to lose a game until today though.

Even against OSU they didn't appear in danger of losing.

Today they did. This is the first time they've appeared vunerable all season.

I don't see why Wisconsin should be ahead of Cal. They haven't beaten anyone even close to a Top 25 team all year, and they've been incredibly underwhelming all year. Minnesota is the first BCS team they've beaten by two touchdowns all year.

Meanwhile, Oregon is the first team that Cal's beaten by less than two touchdowns. Yeah, they lost to USC. But it's USC. They were on the road against the best team in the country and they lost by one play. How can you punish them for that?

You have to say to yourself, "what would happen if the shoe were on the other foot." If Wisconsin was playing Cal's schedule, what would their record be. Well, there's no way in hell that it would be 8-0, and there's a good chance that they would have picked up a second loss somewhere along the way against a tough team like ASU.

Now, if Cal was playing Wisconsin's schedule, does anyone think they might have a loss right now? Of course not. At least not if they know college football. They would have blown through that slate, and they would have almost definitely won in better fashion than the Badgers have.

It's all nice to reward teams for their record, but when the best team you've beaten all year is Ohio State, it's really hard to say that you've "earned" the indisputable right to be recognized as a top four team.

Wisconsin isn't going to get much BCS love people, in fact I dare say that if Michigan wins out the Rose would take them over WI. Yeah I know Michigan lost to ND, but given that ND also beat TN yesterday the Irish really aren't that bad.

How does Alexis Serna make 2 field goals in the heavy fog but miss 3 pats against LSU?

And Oregon's Keith Allen is a worthless piece of shit for missing a wide open catch on 4th down.

Yeah but OU is less than a 100 behind USC. The Top 3 is very hotly contested right now. It's insane.

I think the addition of the 1st place votes will assist OU in the BCS though and keep them at #2.

Now Auburn still has to take care of business.

OU and USC finished there tests. Problem with Auburn is......their tests last all season!

USC still has to play Notre Dame and UCLA which are two huge rivalries. They could easily lose one of those games if they dont show up.Oklahoma has to play Baylor and the Big 12 North Winner. I honestly don't see OU losing the rest of the way out

It would've been a test if Solich was still the head coach.

If Callahan goes like 10-2 next season and wins the Big XII North then maybe I'll step back and say "Good hire."

But until then it's the dumbest move in Nebraska history. Maybe Big XII history.

I think it's a move that'll pay off in the medium term. To deem it the "dumbest move in Big XII history" shows a lack of foresight. Sure, unloading Solich after a 9-3 year may not have been great, but with Solich, this was going to be the same old Nebraska team: wishbone. I-formation. Option. All running. If you throw 8 times a game, it's stunning.

They've gotten spanked a lot this year, and comparing this to any one of Solich's seasons makes it look like a bad hire. But with a few more years of recruiting and learning the systems, they'll be much better equipped to make runs at Big XII titles and championship runs. I think the days of getting to a national championship with the old Husker model are over, at least for now.

Ah, U of L up to #12 in the new AP poll. Highest ranking ever. Now if we hadn't have blown it against Miami (grumbles). Given the schedule left (TCU, Houston, Cincy, and Tulane) a 10-1 record and top 10 finish is quite possible.

If Auburn wins that game next week I can't help but think they'll play for the national title. Bama isn't good enough this year and they already smashed UT.

By the way, ND might well have a shot against USC. They've already given UT a home loss and gave Michigan their only loss.

Edwin I said if he starts doing well....then yeah it's a great hire and I'll take back what I said.

But if he has 2 or 3 more seasons similar to this one and gets fired then yeah it's a dumb move.

I'll say this. If Nebraska goes into Norman next week and can't put up any points against an Oklahoma defense that sucks against the pass and is blown out by 50 then people are going to look unfavorably on Callahan. B/c he was hired to beat OU and Texas and it's a huge rivalry game(well not lately). Plus Nebraska beat OU last time they faced off(granted the team went to the National Title game undeservedly that year).
