Matt Young 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2004 I keep hearing about people returning opened video games, but I have never heard of a store that has such a policy. I need to exchange a new, opened game that I have. I don't want money back, just another game of equal value. Is there any place where I can do this?
razazteca 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2004 Might be able to get away with it at Walmart other than that you might have to settle for store credit at one of those used game stores.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2004 Wal*Mart is probably your best bet. Just make a big stink about it, and if the clerk refuses, demand to see the store manager.
JST 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2004 Any EB Games over there?
Guest Shutterspeed Report post Posted November 5, 2004 Where did you buy your game from? I can't see you as being able to return it to a different store, because you're going to need a docket. Whenever I return an opened product like a game, I just give the clerk at the service desk some bullshit excuse, i.e. "I bought this for my (insert friend/relative of choice here), but they already own it." Seeing as you don't want a refund, rather an exchange, it should be especially easy because an exchange in that situation would make sense and most stores are much more eager to make them as opposed to giving you your money back. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2004 Yeah, the excuse as a gift works well. Not saying I've done that like 7 or 9 times myself... Not at all.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2004 EB used to do it before a lot of assholes abused it. I had only used it for MK Mythologies and WWF In Your House, myself, because they really, really sucked.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted November 5, 2004 Come on now, WWF In Your House wasn't that bad. You had those 3-second video clips, commentary, and voice overs. It also had "fatalities!" Then you also had moves such as Davey Boy Smith's head transforming into an actual bulldog, Vader turning into a mastodon, HHH using a cane, Goldust throwing gold dust, and Warrior using his tassles. Not only that, but each character had his own stage (Owen's house of cards, HHH's mansion, Goldust's movie theater lobby, HBK's nightclub, UT's mausoleum, etc). Plus, it was made by Acclaim! How could you not like it? Yeah, I was being sarcastic. IYH was pretty bad. Who actually thought a "WWF meets Mortal Kombat" game would be a good idea? AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2004 Yeah, I was being sarcastic. IYH was pretty bad. Who actually thought a "WWF meets Mortal Kombat" game would be a good idea? I absolutely loved Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game and it was one of the top 3 games I bought my Playstation to play. Acclaim's sequel just absolutely botched everything Midway did right with it. Hell, the Genesis version of WMTAC blows IYH away. Oh, back on topic, another great thing about buying used is that you can return them easily. Your store slap a sticker on it? Well, if it is just on the side, unsnap the lid of the jewel case to open it. If you decide to take it back, snap the hinges back in place--and you're set. Some of them have put stickers along the spine and over the jewel case lid to prevent that, but a lot of them haven't caught on about it.
iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 Wal-Mart doesn't do it. If it's open, it's yours. Same with Best Buy, Target, FYE, etc. If you open a video game, you can't return it unless it's defective...and only then you can just get the same game that you bought for. Your best bets are E-Bay (which I actually broke even on NHL 2k5 which I bought for $20.00 and hated it, sold it for $20.00), Gamestop (Expect half the price you paid for it.), or EB (Same deal as Gamestop). Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I know that the EB Games(at least the one I go to) will let you return the game in or up to 10 days after the date purchased even if you didn't like the game. You can something of equal or lesser value for it, but they won't let you keep doing it(say you buy a game and don't like it, they will let you return it for something else. But if you don't like that one.....your stuck with it).........
Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 Yes, no store will allow you to trade in an opened game for something else. If they did, people would be doing it every day.

Ummm...a lot of stores do. That's what a 'trade in' is. Go to EB, Gamestop, Gamecrazy, whatever. And Blockbuster also, because just passing by recently, it says trading in games gives you a whole...35$. (That's actually a lot, not exactly sure what games though) So just go to some kind of store that sales games..
Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 Plenty of stores do trades, of course. I'm talking about stores accepting an opened game for a brand new sealed one, which is what I thought this guy was talkign about. Like taking an opened game to WalMart, expecting a new sealed game in return. That's what no store will do.

At EB Games they have a 10 day return policy where if the only reason is you don't like the game you can return it to get another game. They will only do it once, so if you don't like the second game........too bad.
Guest JstnCrdbl4 Report post Posted November 7, 2004 This problem could be easily avoided by renting a game before throwing down 50 bucks for something you've never played and can't return if you absoultely hate it.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2004 Well, I had played the game on an in-store demo and I liked it, but after trying the full version, I realized it wasn't what I was expecting. The game, by the way, is SVC Chaos for the Xbox. I got it at Toys R Us. I have the receipt, but one time when I had to exchange a defective game at that store for another copy of the same title, they removed the wrapper before handing it to me. That's why I wanted to find another store that I could do this at. My cousin had suggested Wal-Mart, and I also have an EB Games in the area. I may as well try both of those. Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Yeah, just about any store will let you bring something back if you have a receipt and a valid reason to bring the game back other than "I don't like it much". Most stores will only allow you to exchange something for the exact same item if you have already opened it. Good luck Matt. You might have better luck by going to TradeGamesNow, GameTZ, or even the video game exchange forum at DVDTalk and trying to trade with someone that way. Guest Leena Report post Posted November 9, 2004 It's very easy to return used games at Gamestop... Just have the receipt, and you'll get store credit back for it, even a couple months afterward. Plus, if you deal with a non-caring employee who babbles on the phone all day... you can return an empty box with the sticker they put on the end, and they'll never know. JST 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2004 Quick anecdote: local EB branch actually let me trade nothing but a game disc in exchange for some store credit. Guess they can have an open mind. My cousin had suggested Wal-Mart, and I also have an EB Games in the area. I may as well try both of those. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Yeah, how IS Andrew?
