For me, Spielberg's greatest movies are Schindler's List, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Jaws, Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, ET, Catch Me If You Can and Jurassic Park. Saving Private Ryan disgusts me, and I believe Shakespeare In Love deserved to beat that piece of filth (though Life Is Beautiful should have won overall).

Of those I mentioned as it being between, I narrowed it down to Schindler's List and Raiders Of The Lost Ark. The former I love because it is such a brilliantly artistic piece, whereas the latter is just an entertaining yarn which you can watch no matter what the mood. After much deliberation, my vote went to Raiders.

Amistad and Schindler's List were blatant attempts at trying to win an Oscar, however.

If he's not allowed to want to put out the best movie, then why should he be directing?

Throw me in the pile with all of the other "Schindler's List is his best artistic statement, but I enjoyed Raiders more" pundits, BTW.

Anybody else enjoy Last Crusade more than Raiders? I think Raiders was the best of the three, but I'd usually rather watch Last Crusade, mostly because of Connery

Hey Vern, I had Guderian up in my sig for like a week or two. I wouldn't necessairly call him a mastermind or anything. Manstein was a better tactician and strategist.

Unless of course he's one of the "bad."

Bad meaning the side your fighting on.

had to go with Raiders Of The Lost Ark...like Star Wars, Indiana Jones is something I grew up loving and will always rank as movies that I will continue to love for years and years!

Saving Private Ryan isn't horrible, per say...the first 30 minutes is one of the best ever on film, I mean it made veterans who survived that day have nightmares all over again, but the rest of the movie was pretty much like any old war movie...

'schindler's list'. it's not even close. it abounds with fantastic scenes, and is the only work of art in the 20th century i can think of that dares to even try to personalize the holocaust while maintaining its enormous scope. it doesn't quite succeed, but it goes farther than anything i've ever seen in making us remember that each of these people had a name and a face. using the list as a symbol is a brilliant answer to the kind of dehumanization the holocaust has come to stand for, and spielberg's constant focus on the human face feels just right.

The recurrance of the red coat is one of the best uses of color I've EVER seen in a film.

Amazingly, I've seen every single movie listed above, which caught me off guard because it was never my intention to see every/most Spielberg movie made. I voted for Saving Private Ryan, because of the emotions it stirred in me when it first came out, but honestly, I think every movie up for voting is fantastic.
