HOLY FUCKIN SHIT

Recommended Posts

... by the way, anyone who didn't love every minute of that fight is either lying or retarded.

Fuck you; I know dozens of people who were sickened by it (my parents, for example). The only reason that it didn't offend me personally is that I'm essentially numb to violence and stupid people doing stupid things (which is bound to happen when you've been watching wrestling as long as I have), but to say that anyone who didn't love it is "either lying or retarded" shows complete disregard for the notion that someone might not have seen things the same way you did.

You thought it was "great," and I didn't, but *I'M* the one who's retarded? Fuck that; I don't watch basketball for that kind of shit. Your comment is about as accurate as if I decided to say that anybody who did love every minute of that fight is either immature or brain damaged.

People who are like "This was inexcusable. Ron Artest should be banned for life, exiled to Siberia, then drawn and quartered in the Irkutsk town square" are getting carried away. 15 games and a hefty fine should be enough. It's not the fault of any Pacers.

Had this been Tim Duncan or Jason Kidd or someone else everyone loves instead of Artest those same people would be saying it's not his fault and he shouldn't get too harsh of a fine.

I really don't like how some commentators are blaming Artest for lying down on the table. The way you hear them talk, the only acceptable thing he could have done was drop his pants, bend over, and prepare for penteration from Wallace.

O'Neal should get a year too.

For what?!?! The fan was dumb enough to get on the court, he deserves whatever the fuck he gets.

O'Neal should get 2-3 games, MAX.

YOU DON'T PUNCH A FAN.

He ran as fast as he could and cold cocked him. In fact, he fell over as soon as he made contact. The fan wasn't threatening his well being.

But that fan and another were double teaming Artest. O'Neal is a good teammate for evening the odds.

People need to learn that buying a ticket for a sporting even doesnt give them the right to act how they like. Of course players should show restraint but theres no-one who wouldnt have acted the same way. Just because someones in the media spotlight doesn't mean they have, or should need to develop, a personality to take all kinds of abuse.

Being a football fan in the UK theres always loudmouth morons making gestures and comments to players and as soon as one does it back the fan runs to the stewards trying to get the player sent off or arrested.

If you want to dish it out then you have to be able to take it.

What the players did was regrettable but it was a nothing incident which would have been settled by the players in 60 seconds before the fans got involved.

This should be a lesson for everyone...don't throw shit at someone, unless you're ready to deal with the person face to face.

This brawl reminded me of old time hockey, ala the movie Slap Shot.

The fan was threatening his teammate. It was 2 on 1 and security wasn't doing shit so Jermaine ran in to help. That's being a good teammate. Plus a fan coming on the court becomes fair game for whatever he gets.

Actually I'm a Raptors fan but I own an O'Neal jersey cause he's a good player.

Neither fan had any intentions of fighting. They were stupid to be on the coart, but even when Artest raised his fst to punch the fan he stood there without fighting back. O'Neal and Artest could've walked to the lockeroom, but instead, they just stood around looking for a fight.

Some people, when confronted with the prospect of a bigger person wanting to fight back, freeze. It happens.

Anyways, what do you think he was doing on the court? Trying to get an autograph?

How about just going to the bench and sitting down? Artest sitting on the table isn't bad, but going into a blind rage after ONE CUP lands on his chest (not his face, look at the tape) and pounding on a fan who may/may not have thrown it is in-excusable.

No one was "double teaming" Artest from what I saw (if you are referring to the fan he punched on the floor); O'Neal sucker punched him while he was being helped up after Artest nailed him.

Artest, O'Neal and Jefferson should be suspended for 2 or 3 months with a $500,000 fine for each, and all those dipshit fans that got involved should be banned for life from the Palace. ESPN looked to get most of their faces, but if the fans that didn't get involved but saw what happened had any balls, they'd come forward to the police and spill their guts.

Absolutely embarassing night for sports in general in Detroit.

O'Neal wasn't standing around anywhere. He was dragging Stephen Jackson out of the crowd along some guy in a suit. The fat fan came on the court talked shit to Artest and Artest drilled him. O'Neal wasn't right there, he probably saw two guys beside his teammate so he ran in to help. That's what any good teammate would do. Hell that's what I would do.

And nonetheless, the fans could've EASILY left. Much easier than Artest & O'Neal. Yet no, they try to be tough guys and go on the court. And they got what was coming to them. It's funny how just cause they're athletes and paid a lot, they suddenly aren't human. What O'Neal did is what ANY good teammate in any good sport would do.

Why were they on the court if they weren't looking to "fight". If the fan didn't want to put himself in danger of being punched, then he needs to stay in his seat during the incident.

When a fan runs into a wrestling ring he's usually not looking to fight, but you won't find many blaming the trained wrestler for taking a fan out.

They're at least above (or should be) getting into brawls with fans.

Artest gets into the crowd = suspended.

Fan gets onto the court during game = open to anything within boundaries of players, including tackles and punches.

Please tell us different.

It's not their fault those two morons ran onto the court. It's common consensus in anything(even wrestling) if a fan comes onto the field of play anything that happens to him is HIS OWN FAULT.

He didn't punch him once. Artest simply subdued the guy (whether he WAS going to punch him is left to interpretation).

No one was "double teaming" Artest from what I saw (if you are referring to the fan he punched on the floor)

His friend threw a full cup at Artest and taunted him.

O'Neal sucker punched him while he was being helped up after Artest nailed him.

Different guy. Guy who got knocked down, was helped by his friend who punched Artest then pushed him away. O'Neal hit THAT guy.

Artest, O'Neal and Jefferson should be suspended for 2 or 3 months with a $500,000 fine for each

The act of suspending Artest for the on-court incident has no precedent, therefore we go to the rules of the game. Just as Artest should be suspended for going into the stands, the players aren't held accountable for anything that happens to fans who threaten players while ON the court floor.

O'Neal probably will get a 8-10 game suspension, simply because the fan was in the wrong anyway, but the NBA needs to save face by suspending him.

Jackson will get 15 for throwing unprovocated punches at the fans, in the vein of the Vernon Maxwell incident in 1993 (?).

, and all those dipshit fans that got involved should be banned for life from the Palace.

Okay.

ESPN looked to get most of their faces, but if the fans that didn't get involved but saw what happened had any balls, they'd come forward to the police and spill their guts.

Hopefully they get the guy who threw the chair, and/or the fan who hit the referee with the cup.

Once again, to summarize:

Artest: 5 games without pay (for leaving the court; Stern should explain that the punch was the fault of the fans.)

O'Neal: 8 games.

Jackson: 15.

Then they should let security take care of the fan. Course, security seemed to be a little lax and busy with other things, which is how the fan got on the court to begin with.

Jesus, who DOESN'T deserve some blame for this thing happening?

Well, there were about 10 people on them by the time he got to the fan, so who knows what happened in that pile.

I saw this whole thing on SportsCenter, and it was good how they highlighted fans attacking the players. That tape should help the police identify the morons better.

I'm just pissed at this whole thing, since it helps reinforce the "Half of professional sports athletes are thugs and punks" stereotype.

These 3 parts deserve equal blame

The players: They handled the situation poorly

The fans: They also handled the situation poorly

Security: They seemed to have no control over the arena

Is there anyone else to blame?
