JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Do you think they decided to so something with Puder and that's where this is leading? Or maybe someone will debut to face him at Armageddon or something? Where do you think this is leading?
Guest Shutterspeed Report post Posted November 20, 2004 It looked like it was leading to the debut of Matt Cappotelli in Rochester, but that's not happening.

JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Did they decide not to do it or what exactly did Meltzer say? The Rochester show is next week, I'm guessing this is something that will build for a few as Angle beats a few jobbers until someone upsets him or something. Guest Shutterspeed Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Even though one would assume (I know I did) that Kurt Angle wrestling a home town guy was leading to the debut of Matt Cappotelli in Rochester, that is not in the plans.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Gotcha. Like I said, I doubt they're going to have Angle lose in his second week of doing this. Well after Rochester they have Smackdowns in Richmond, VA and Greenville, SC, and of course Armageddon in Atlanta. Not that the guy actually has to be from the hometown, but I can't really think of any guys from these cities who are on the verge of debuting. Edit: Joey Matthews is from Richmond, and the only other one I can think of is Matt Morgan, who is from Connecticut, and there will be a Smackdown there in January. But who knows. Slickster 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Puder's hometown is 100mi from Fresno (home of the Rumble); it's the closest city.

Just call me Dan 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 I think it would be cool leading up to a big Cena/Angle match in where Cena takes Angle up on his challenge much like he did in his debut. Cool way to pay homage to his first WWE match as well as spark the feud the two have been having on and off again since the "Mr. Angle" days.

They're going to have to run this boring "beat up the jobber" segment (While Michael Cole acts like Angle has no chance, which is the most bizarre thing ever) for the next couple of weeks until they have the big debut and fluke pin, leading to another excrutiating "medals" feud and squash at a PPV. I don't know about you, but I can pass on that.

It was done about 700 times over the course of a little under 3 years, and if they ever want to make it big again, they need a HUGE lay off.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 I find it funny that they had Angle say he wants to prove to the world that he's the greatest wrestler there is by doing this. Isn't that what that belt thingy JBL has is for? So where's this going? Wishful thinking, but here goes. Scenario one would be Puder if he doesn't win TE. Then there's the Olympic wrestler they were rumoured to be talking about a while back, who's name escapes me. And thirdly. Anyone know when Smackdown's next in San Antonio? Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Wouldn't the purpose of this entire thing is to have an "Unknown" beat Angle? It would be like Goldberg ending Rodney Macks 5:00 White Boy Beatdown Challenge. It elevates no one, and makes fans not care about someone else at the same time. It would be like Goldberg ending Rodney Macks 5:00 White Boy Beatdown Challenge. It elevates no one, and makes fans not care about someone else at the same time. Angle losing to an unknown would kill his career. It's on a slippery slide after SurSer as it is. If it was, say, a 'recognisable' indie star or a guy with history like Puder (UFC) or the Olympic guy, then it'd be okayish. Fact is, no-one will buy Wrestlemania for Angle/some Unknown. Angle/Puder has interest already. Angle/HBK will sell Mania on it's back.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Wouldn't the purpose of this entire thing is to have an "Unknown" beat Angle? Stop it. In an effort to do something actually entertaining, they scrapped those plans and went ahead with Michaels vs. Angle. Come on everyone, if we say it enough it might just happen. Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted November 21, 2004 I don't mean an unknown, but I don't mean a main event superstar. That completely mocks the point of doing it. Someone should be elevated by beating Angle, not someone already high on the card that can't get any higher.

claydude14 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 Damn I'm going to Tuesday's taping, I hope Capatelli comes out at least for a dark match. Makes too much sense for him to come out and face Angle for the hometown challenge. Instead we'll get a jobber who's probably not from Rochester.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 21, 2004 Does anyone get the feeling that the talk of Angle having political power in WWE is complete BS? Well, the fact that he's been booked as a total incompetant boob since Summerslam might lead people to think that. However, I kind of have a feeling that they're using this booking to offset the big push to Wrestlemania against Undertaker. So if/when he's unstoppable for three months next year, the WWE can point to the last four months of 2004 where he didn't do a single thing right. I don't mean an unknown, but I don't mean a main event superstar. That completely mocks the point of doing it. Someone should be elevated by beating Angle, not someone already high on the card that can't get any higher. But...Shawn vs. Kurt could (should, I don't put anything past this company) be entertaining. Rather that a boring, insufferable angle where some Velocity guy fluke pins Angle, runs bad comedy skits over the medals for a month and loses a squash match at a PPV, I'd like watchable TV. DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 Maybe the next time Smackdown's in Austin, Texas, Paul London could make a comeback and beat angle. Now that would be a damn good match.
