Top songs so far

Recommended Posts

I'm so happy that I bought Elif (or Niggaz, depending on your perspective) the other day. Too often lost amidst all the ridiculous misogyny is the real coming-out party for Dre's production skills. A lot of the tracks on there are just as remarkable as their descendants on The Chronic.

I'd say Float On by Modest Mouse is easily my favourite single of this year.

I thought World At Large was a way better song, but Float On is great, too

No doubt, but I was narrowing it down to singles. One song from all the albums that came out this year is much harder to decipher.

i wanted to say this, but it didn't deserve its own topic. i've been listening to buckley's 'live at sin-é' a lot this week, and as great as it is, i think it would've made a better single album. i would have only included:

be your husband

mojo pin

grace

strange fruit

eternal life

calling you

the way young lovers do

je n'en consais pas la fin

hallelujah

i think that would fit on one cd. i'd also include maybe a third of the monologue bits.

and if i were to make a cd from the loads of velvet underground material that didn't make it on the 4 studio albums, i'd use:

satellite of love

foggy notion

ride into the sun

ocean

stephanie says

lisa says

i'm sticking with you

i can't stand it

now that i look at that track listing, it looks like there's no way in hell that those songs would flow together into a cohesive album.

I'll do it by genre.

Rock: Teen Age Riot- Sonic Youth. Or Where is my Mind-Pixies. Probably Teen Age Riot.

Country: Folsom County Blues- Cash

Rap- tough one, I'll say Things you can do by Deltron. I love that song. I love that whole album. I'll throw in Herbie Hancoc's Rockit because it doesn't fit anywhere else. EDIT 3030 is the top song ever.

Techno - Either Halcyon+on+on or Girl with the Sun in her Head by Orbital. Orbital has a fuckin' lock on this category.

I'll say Eclectic- Bjork Bachelorette.
