An interesting tidbit, for the poster who got the ball rolling on this topic.

 

As of 1130ish tonight, Tommy Douglas, the generally speaking founder of public healthcare in Canada, is leading the polls for The Greatest Canadian.

 

Another: In a poll conducted in 2000, when my compatriots were asked what they were most proud of as Canadians, 74% said public health care. Yes 74%. Hockey was second with something like 16. No, I don't have a source. Sorry.
