therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Thank God Musberger and Danielson are doing VT/Miami next week, I don't think I could stomach a Colorado/Oklahoma Big XII title game with Musberger probably making about 50,000 Northwestern references. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Ugh. Again, UVA collapses in the 4th quarter, and Virginia Tech runs away with it. Too many mistakes, too many dumb penalties - this win would have made it a 9-2 year with a good feeling. Now it's 8-3 and off to a miserable bowl against Colorado or Iowa State. Sad day to be a Virginia fan...though at least it's probably sadder to be a BC fan.

They can't lose it this year. However, under the "Big East Rule", a conference's automatic spot comes under review whenever the representatives over a four-year period average worse than a ranking of 12 in the final BCS poll of that year. The last three rankings for Big East champions have been 1 (Miami wins national championship), 2 (Miami loses to Ohio State in title game), and about 5 (Miami beats Florida State in the Orange Bowl). If they don't shape things up next year, Louisville et all will have jumped to the Big East for no reason football-wise, although both Louisville and Cincy's basketball programs still make out like bandits. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Man, fuck Tennessee. I was riveted for once by a UK FOOTBALL game and seriously thought UK was going to take it....then of course they remembered they were UK in the 4th quarter and played like scared bitches out there. I mean, they pick off Clausen and proceed to get penalties and fumble the ball around until it's 4th and 33! Auburn is going to beat the ever loving shit out of Tenn. next week. It won't be pretty at all.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted November 27, 2004 What happens if Tenn wins next week and takes the SEC title? Does that knock Cal, Utah or Auburn out of the bcs picture?
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 I'm not so sure about that. I believe the reason these last two should-have-been-blowouts have been so close is because we've been looking forward to Auburn since the Notre Dame game. Fulmer's probably been planning for this game since the South Carolina win. Tennessee will keep it close. They may not win, but it'll be a game this time. Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 What happens if Tenn wins next week and takes the SEC title? Does that knock Cal, Utah or Auburn out of the bcs picture? I think they'd just take Auburn's current spot in the Sugar Bowl and the Tigers would head to the Citrus Bowl unless Auburn didn't fall out of the top 6 in the BCS standings. Then we'd have a real mess on our hands, because there's no way in hell Texas would deserve to be in a BCS bowl over Auburn.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 It would probably get rid of Cal, with Auburn staying at #3 and taking the automatic bid that Cal would have used. I think there's too much of a gap between Auburn and Cal for the Tigers to drop out of the 3rd place spot if they lose, unless they get hammered extremely hard in the human polls. Which, admittedly, could happen--drop Auburn behind Cal and Texas after one loss. In which case Texas would still miss out on the BCS. Poor bastards.

I think the more accurate reading is that Rick Clausen isn't up to the standard set by Erik Ainge, or even by Schaeffer. Auburn by 24, again.

No, of course not. What would be the point of the system if winning your conference didn't guarantee you a spot? Why wouldn't they just take the top 6 teams regardless of conference affiliation? Whoever wins the Big East is worthy, because they won the conference.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Oh, goodie. Iowa State against Virginia in the Tangerine Bowl. I'm thrilled! Maybe Texas Tech will drop that far and we'll at least get an exciting game. And I think Colorado has a better chance than Iowa State would have had. Still probably not much of one, but a decent game against OU should get them to the Independence or Houston Bowl.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Wow. Sorry to post so many times in a row, but this is something you don't see every day: Know how I've been talking about the Champs Sports/Tangerine bowl? Our university president just turned down Virginia's bid for that game on account of final exams. We have exams through the 21st, which is the day of the game. It's a bit bullshit, but it's also kinda commendable, from an academic standpoint. Still, it probably damns a team that, while far from great, deserves more than a game out in Boise. Yikes. Had Clemson not chosen to opt out of a bowl, this would leave a wonderful opening for Virginia to head to the Liberty Bowl against Louisville, since the Liberty is losing Utah. I'm not sure a conference team can get out of its bowl obligations in that fashion, though, when the conference-affiliated Boise game is still on the table. Bored 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 I'm not sure a conference team can get out of its bowl obligations in that fashion, though, when the conference-affiliated Boise game is still on the table. As I pointed out yesterday UTEP took an open bid over one the WAC bowl bids and leaves the WAC likely without enough teams to fill their bids so I wouldn't see why Virginia couldn't do the same. The Liberty Bowl pays out $1.3 million as opposed to the $750k for the Tangerine Bowl. The Independence Bowl and Las Vegas Bowl are also potential open bid options for Virignia. Bored 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 I got them off of CollegeBCS.com. Here is in order the highest to lowest payouts by bowl. Rose, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta $14.4 million Capital One $5.125 million Cotton $3 million Outback $2.75 million Peach $2.15 million Holiday $2 million Gator $1.825 million Alamo $1.55 million Sun $1.5 million Liberty $1.3 million Independence $1.2 million Houston $1.1 million Las Vegas $800k Music City $780k Every other bowl $750k

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 I'm just waiting for Damaramu to complain that the Sooner mascot isn't a finalist in the Capital One Mascot challenge. Mike pretty much nailed it. However Arizona is a horribly underachieving program that has zero excuses for finishing 3-8. While not all the blame can be placed at Stoops, imo he wasn't as good his first year as advertised. Do we even have a mascot? I mean we have the two horses but those aren't like some dude in a big suit....that's my biggest complaint about the school. No guy in a cool suit. Bored 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Who the Liberty Bowl takes will all be based on who sells the most tickets. Hey if the Gator Bowl doesn't take Notre Dame then who's to say the Liberty Bowl doesn't come knocking? Texas Tech I think ends up in the Alamo Bowl if they win today or the Ft. Worth Bowl if they lose today. Colorado will probably be in the Independence Bowl although if Oklahoma State loses today that's where they might end up. Yes it's nice to have your state defined by criminals. Like Australia but less cool. I have no clue what a Sooner mascot would be though. Some crazy old prospector with a pick axe and rifle?
