What do you guys think about Tony's relationship with his sister in the movie. It seems very weird, do you guys think he was incest? He won't let any man be with her. I just get alot of incestual vibes from this relationship.

I'd say it wasn't incest but him just being *really* over protective. He just didn't want her to fall into the same crap he was into. That's why I think he snapped with Fernando towards the end. He broke the "unspoken rule" about not getting his sister involved with *any* criminals or in any criminal activity. The latter is why I think Tony also got super pissed in the club when he saw her doing the shit he was peddling and snorting.

He was overprotective. Before he came home to visit his sister and mom, i think it had been years since he had seen them, and I don't think he was ready to deal with the fact that she wa snow grown up and would behaive however she wanted. It was just the shock of it all.

Ha. I saw the un-edited version a few weeks ago and I was thinking the same thing regarding the incest vibe.

Tony was just playing the role of the overprotective older brother.

 

With the whole Manny/Gina situation, he reacted too quickly and in the end, he realized his mistake.

Beating the nail deeper, it just seemed more like the over-protective brother of his younger sister who was growning up, except in this case Gina already was and Tony missed most of it. And I too think she was nothing much too look at. Neck was too long and she had no tits.

 

I'm still mad though he killed Manny without even saying a word about what was going on, and that was his best friend-associate-partner-whatever.

 

I was always wondering...was it Sosa who killed Tony at the end? It's been a while since I've seen the movie, and don't remember much.

No, Sosa didn't kill Tony, it was one of his men.

 

EDIT: Honestly, I don't think Tony would've killed Manny had he known that he just married Gina. He didn't find out until after.

I thought the guy who killed Tony was also Sosa. I rewatched the movie and then I saw it was one of his body guards who helped dump the one guy out of the helicopter.

It's because he was ridiculously coked out by the time he even got there. I'm fairly certain they showed this in some way.

I thought he was coked out of his mind after it happend (where he buried his face in the stuff and had it all over his nose). I remember him being worried about his sister not being home, but I don't remember much other than that.

I think the 1983 remake has more of the incest vibe that the original movie does. In the 1932 movie Tony is certainly overprotective of his sister, but it's mainly because he doesn't want her involved in his lifestyle (dating criminals, etc). They are WAY more blatant about this in the Pacino movie, even going so far as to have her hit you over the head with it by saying "Come on Tony, you don't want anyone else to fuck me, so fuck me yourself!" and all that.

 

The original movie does have some slight hints at the incest stuff, but even in the pre code 1932 era you could only go so far.
