Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Just bought one yesterday, and am trying to put some VHS on DVD. It's wired through the VCR, everything visually comes up fine, but when I hit record, the recorder won't do it, and that little "stop" symbol comes up on the corner of the screen. Did I miss a step somewhere?
Guest Lawlerm Report post Posted November 28, 2004 The video must have some form of copy proection on it. Try www.videohelp.com and see if theres a hack for your player or check the forums for some recommendations on equipment to break the copy protection. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2004 It was a storebought video tape, with TV shows that I taped on it.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2004 What kind of hardware is this? When you say "DVD recorder" the first thing that pops in my mind is a burner for PCs, but you make it sound like this is a different piece of hardware, perhaps a standalone. Guest Lawlerm Report post Posted November 29, 2004 I'm assuming its a standalone DVD by the sound of it. Generally anything taped off TV you shouldnt have a problem with but i beleive some things are broadcast with copy protection. I think HBO shows are. I'm not sure if it's all or just some of them and i'm not sure if any other American networks do this.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2004 It's a standalone DVD recorder, not a burner/computer related one. I have it wired in through my VCR. Every time I hit the record button, it refuses to do it for whatever reason.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2004 It probably cant be wired through the VCR. You should try hooking it up directly to the TV.
JJMc 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2004 You have to input it through the AV jacks on the TV, just like a regular DVD player. Then, run another set of AV cables from the output on the VCR to the input on the DVD recorder. You then have to set the TV to "input" or whatever and set the recorder to display the input that the VCR is hooked up to. It isn't like a VCR where you just set everything to "ch. 03" and hit record. Maybe you've done all this, I don't know, but this is a problem I had when I first got one. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2004 That could be it, actually. I had the VCR hooked up to the TV by the normal wiring, not the AV wires, and the recorder hooked up to the VCR by the AV wires. I'll try that. Thanks.
JJMc 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 You CAN still have the VCR hooked up to the TV through the normal wiring, but you also have to have it wired out to the recorder via the A/V cables. Just wanted to clear that up.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 What's the speed other people's DVD recorders can record at without the picture looking too pixelled? I tried taping RAW at 4 hour speed Monday night and the picture looked like crap.
JJMc 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Yeah, I think 3 hr (LP on mine) is basically the limit. 4 hr. mode almost isn't worth it.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 I've got it working, thanks for the help. The problem was what JJMc mentioned, about having to be connected with the coaxial as well as the A/V wires (which isn't specified in the manual for whatever reason...it just says to use the AV's.) So it's up and running. Thanks for helping me out guys.
