Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Instead of starting a new topic.... Did anyone read Cobain's journals and are they worth picking up? I read them in the store. No.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Cobain wrote those journals to himself, not for public consumption. Anyone who buys them is an ass.
Guest Syxx Report post Posted December 3, 2004 Sorry I didn't mean to put that question mark behind my statement. What I was saying is that the songs are NOT catchier and better written on Bleach. However, the albums is still their best in my opinion. As for reading Cobain's journals? I am fully with Girl U Want as I believe it is inappropriate and disrespectful to view them. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 He's dead. It's not like you're going to make him cry.
Guest Syxx Report post Posted December 3, 2004 There is still a moral element to it as Cobain's never intended for you to read his personal feelings. You should be familiar with the concept of respecting the dead. Afterall, you are Christian, aren't you?
The Ill One 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 Hey, it's a price celebrities pay- whether it's right or wrong doesn't matter, it's the truth. I glanced into them, you'd have to be a loyal fan to really appreciate it. Oh and Unplugged is my current favorite Nirvana CD.

Then you guys have to be against the release of Jim Morrison or 2Pac's poetry after their deaths right? And the release of songs by John Lennon or Elvis after their deaths? All of that stuff was private to them. I personally don't think Cobain would've minded. He was always a guy who acted liked he had nothing to hide, and had no problem discussing his reality with the world.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 3, 2004 Count me in among the camp who cite "Bleach" as their best piece of work. " Blew", "Floyd the Barber", "School" "Swap Meet", "Big Cheese", and "Paper Cuts" are superb. I give a slight nod to "nevermind" over "in utero" just because I feel that the former has less filler than the latter, could have done without "tourettes". I'll go a step further to say Bleach is horrible. Much like most, if all, grunge music...with Nirvana as the exception. Slightly off-topic, but I want to ask this because I'm curious. What's your opinion on metal in general, Banky? Not sure how much or if you've listened to a lot of it, or at least enough to experiment with the subgenres, but it's a matter of interest in how much you may like something or not. I got into Bleach more and more when I started to appreciate lo-fi, energy-driven metal a lot more simultaneously. I may be just the exception and not the rule, however. 5_moves_of_doom 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Much like many other people here, apparently... I really think the band churned out some really fucking good songs, but just because of the production and the aura of the albums, I like pretty much every song better when played during Unplugged. EVERY ONE. And all of the covers are good, too, especially the Vaselines (I like the Vaselines version better though, as it has a much warmer feel to it.) Anyway, why has no one mentioned Incesticide yet? Anyway, yes, I like In Utero and Unplugged A LOT, and the rest is just "alright," for the most part. Overexposure has definitely killed a lot of the Nirvana love for me. Oh, and Alice in Chains sucks. But yeah, their unplugged set was good.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 By the way, you know Courtney Love had those journals before they were published. Just saying.

Guest Syxx Report post Posted December 6, 2004 "Come as you are" Unplugged was definitely worse than the original, but still passable nonetheless. But the worst song on Unplugged? By far it has to be "Pennyroyal tea". I don't know how anyone in their right mind can like that version better than the original, it was the lowpoint of mostly flawless album. Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Can anyone confirm or deny that "Nevermind's" hidden track was the 1st ever?

Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Off the top of my head, "Her Majesty" by the Beatles and "Train in Vain" by the Clash were initially hidden tracks on their respective albums (Abbey Road and London Calling), but future pressings ended up listing them. So, deny.

"Come As You Are" Unplugged pretty much sucked a dick. Oh. I forgot about that. It's not bad, really... but I don't know if the studio version is better. I was never really a fan of the song in the first place.
Guest INXS Report post Posted December 8, 2004 Nevermind was a great album which to me personally has slightly dimished in time. I think mainly because to me, it was their "pop" or more corporate sounding album. I can't listen to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or "Lithium" anymore, although I recognize that they are both great songs in their own right. On the subject of PennyRoyal Tea on Unplugged - I love that version, jsut as much as the In Utero version, infact i'm going to have to listen to some Nirvana now...
