JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2004 What's a show you have a much different view of now (whether it's better or worse) than when the actual event happened? And why? For example, at the time when I was much much more of a mark, I loved Wrestlemania 15. Looking back, it's easy to see how much of a piece of crap that show was. Rock/Austin was decent, but nothing compared to future matches, as Rock was still a lot of punch and kick. HHH/Kane ending in a DQ? A three minute tag title match? Bossman/Taker in a horrible Hell in a Cell match? A HORRIBLE women's title match? How the hell did I like this show at the time?
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted December 7, 2004 There was a Tag Title Match? I can't even remember... Wrestlemania IX I thought was pretty good a few years back. I saw it recently...and damn did it suck.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 7, 2004 WM6 seemed so awesome live but repeat viewings exposed this as one of the WORST mania's ever. Hogan/Warrior doesn't hold up and nothing else was even close to decent save for a **1/2 Roberts/Dibiase match that had a non-finish.
JHawk 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2004 WrestleMania IV. I absolutely hated that show the first time I saw it and called the worst WrestleMania ever for years. Now I don't seem to mind it so far, although I wonder if that's because the show's better than I thought or if it's just the nostalgia kicking in.
algrim 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2004 For me, it was Summersalm '93. I remembered liking the Bret-Lawler match and my cousinsn absolutely loving Lex Luger defeat Yokozuna. Looking at it now, it completely blows because it exposes all of Luger's weaknesses. The ending wasn't good either.
strummer 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2004 Summerslam 92. As a 13 year old mark, I despised the show after the initial viewing. I hated screwjob finishes and the finish in the world title match ruined the PPV for me. I also hated the Natural Disasters, LOD, and Nailz, and they all won convincingly in their matches. But since then, I realized that the main event is great and that the Warrior/Flair/Savage angle was pretty revolutionary stuff for the time
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2004 This doesn't directly answer the question, but when I first bought an ECW VHS tape that featured the Lynn/RVD match from HH99 (I think.. smae one that's on the WWe DVD now) I hated it. I only knew Rob from the few times I saw ECW on TV and his quick match on Raw against Jeff Hardy, so basically I thought the match was too much stalling and a bunch of stupid flips and stuff that meant nothing and made me question why Joey Styles was claiming people called this the greatest match ever in the intro to it on the tape... Fast forward to watching the match recently, with a better understanding of RVD's offense... it's still a bunch of stalling to start, but I did end up liking that match. To actually answer the question, most PPVs from 1998 or 1999 were things I loved at the time, mostly due to watching them with a large group of people cheering, but watching them in later years on VHS is a cause to FF through it. I find Mania 14 and SummerSlam 98 hold up well, as do scattered matches from those PPVs, but I can;t figure out what I ever saw in Fully Loaded 98. I look forward to the day that becomes decade old nostalgia to make it good again.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2004 The tag title match at WM15 was Owen/Jarrett vs. D'Lo/Test. And don't even get me started on Butterbean... I'm actually the opposite with RVD/Lynn from HH99. I LOVED it as first and like it a lot less now. That was the first ECW show I ever saw, as one of my friends loved ECW and invited me over for a PPV. I loved it, but looking back it wasn't that great of a show. Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2004 I marked out hard for the Royal Rumble 1994 when I was a kid. I watched the Coliseum Home Video version five times when I rented it.
