Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 I was thinking about this while playing Vice City about half an hour ago. After their covering the late 80s/early 90s California gang wars what's left? Only thing I could think of is to cover the 30-50s mob in Chicago and the soundtrack to that might not be appealing to anybody. I guess they could cover 70s Las Vegas as well. That's gotta be it though.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 They should go old school and do something set in the American Revolution.
Red Baron Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 60's in London England. That would be cool. Or Tokyo, Hong Kong, Beijing. I mean they could try and do Vancouver, and be very Canadian about it, but i don't think it would fly.
cameron chaos Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 60's in London England. Already been done as a mission pack for GTA 2, if I recall. 30s NY or 50s Vegas would be good, I think.
Slayer Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Only thing I could think of is to cover the 30-50s mob in Chicago and the soundtrack to that might not be appealing to anybody. Mafia sorta did that, but without the soundtrack. I imagine a GTA-esque soundtrack would be rather amusing though "President Roosevelt is in the news again..."
Red Baron Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 How about a late 60's edition where your a simple american, killing hippies and people against the government. KKK would like that.
Golgo 13 Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 They could always try setting the story in a foreign locale, as already mentioned, going back to ideas from the first two games, or even revisiting cities they've done recently. I'm sure they would love to remake and upgrade GTA III at some point, or expand on Las Venturas. England. Russia. South America. Mexico. Hong Kong, Taiwan. Japan. Although gathering soundtracks for many of those... yeah, that's the problem. The best chance of any of those would probably be Japan or England.
Special K Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Japan could have an interesting wrinkle in it too, as guns are very rare. They could beef up the hand to hand fighting! England would have the most killer soundtrack. I want an all-Clash station. I'd love to see what they could come up for for London or Tokyo in the graphics dept. I bet it would be gorgeous. GTA in the FUTURE!
LaParkaMarka Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 I imagine they'd just do a straight up sequel to San Andreas. It's not like the possibilities for CJ are over. If it's a next gen game, I could see them pulling all three big locales (Liberty, Vice, and SA) together in one game. God, that would be awesome.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Think they make cities based on American cities though due to all the cultures. You go to Japan and I doubt you find one sect that is mainly made up of Spanish people and another part of the same city where Afro-Americans call it home. Not to mention nobody would really understand the foreign music. I doubt the game would really sell well at all. If they did one based on Chicago though they could have the rock station with The Beetles and bands of that generation while another was playing Frank Sinatra. Imagine doing drive-bys using a Tommy Gun while listening to ol' Blue Eyes.
Slayer Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Not to mention nobody would really understand the [Japanese] music. I doubt the game would really sell well at all. I think they'd tap the Japan/anime fanboy market pretty well with that, actually
The Mandarin Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Not to mention nobody would really understand the [Japanese] music. I doubt the game would really sell well at all. I think they'd tap the Japan/anime fanboy market pretty well with that, actually All four of them.
EricMM Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Um, in a word: yes. Too profitable not to be continued.

If it's a next gen game, I could see them pulling all three big locales (Liberty, Vice, and SA) together in one game. God, that would be awesome. They did that in the first GTA. Although I'm sure that with what they've been doing lately, it'd be much, much better.
Red Baron Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 If they it in Japan, they should make a parody of the Japanese animation, and shit like that, it would be pretty cool. How about Canada? I mean those Natives, and hockey, and beer...SNOW!!! SNOWMOBILES!!!
Slayer Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 How about Canada? No one cares about Canada
razazteca Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 I don't want to hear Celine Dion, Rush, or Loverboy on the soundtrack.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 RUSH would be all over the soundtrack if it took place in 70s Las Vegas.
Red Baron Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 I don't want to hear Celine Dion, Rush, or Loverboy on the soundtrack. Loverboy was in Vicecity. Think about it. Neil Young Rush Guess Who BTO Our Lady Peace Tea Party Moist Nickelback Sum 41 Avril Lavigne Finger Eleven Three Days Grace Shania Twain ya, thats some bad music, but i mean, there's some good Canadian music as well.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 how can you people hate on RUSH?
AndrewTS Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 how can you people hate on RUSH? They have some decent songs...but come on, they've gotta be in the top 5 geekiest bands of all time, save for their Zeppelin-lite days.
Slayer Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Seeing Andrew eschew Rush because of their "geekiness" makes me chuckle quite loudly

If it's a next gen game, I could see them pulling all three big locales (Liberty, Vice, and SA) together in one game. God, that would be awesome. Hey they could a model a game on a road trip from SA to Vice City and base it on my life. Nice.

The Amazing Rando Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Grand Theft Auto: Hawaiian Style~ Just so you can knock a guy out with a coconut.
AndrewTS Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Seeing Andrew eschew Rush because of their "geekiness" makes me chuckle quite loudly Oh come on--"Subdivisions" anyone? More recently--the album that came out before the current one...eeeeech. I haven't heard the newest one, but the "Summertime Blues" cover was so shitty I don't want to bother. And Geddy's voice sucks, even when he's singing a good song.
Slayer Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Seeing Andrew eschew Rush because of their "geekiness" makes me chuckle quite loudly Oh come on--"Subdivisions" anyone? You were probably the disenchanted nerd in that video
