Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 ESPNEWS says the Dodgers have officially pulled out of the trade
Slovakia Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Maybe Selig will override the MEGA-TRADE with the BIoB clause in that it makes the payroll skyrocket way way way too high.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Supposedly the Red Sox are going after JD Drew real hard. The Dodgers wanted him before they were going to commit to the deal. In the end I think not doing the deal was best for the Dodgers. They were going to be giving up WAY too much. If the Red Sox get Drew then they would move Nixon for pitching or a catcher if they feel they can't get Tek back. With the exception of David Wells, Theo has been trying to make the Red Sox younger all across the board now.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Someone really needs to explain the Wells signing. I mean; I know he's still productive enough and i'm sure the former yankee aspect was appealing for Theo but they couldn't find another productive enough but younger and less injury prone picther?
the max Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 I think the thing with Wells was that he's produced in the playoffs and gives them a veteran lefty (which they haven't had since...uhm....)
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 I think the thing with Wells was that he's produced in the playoffs and gives them a veteran lefty (which they haven't had since...uhm....) since Frank Tanana
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Isn't he going to disrupt the free spirit of the Club with his diva attitude? At least un like Nomah; he'll likely produce and not sit there and pout.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 So since the Dodgers pulled out; What does George have to pull out of his ass to get Johnson now? Why haven't we really heard Beltran and Delgado talks; they keep going "and don't forget Beltran and Delgado are still out there"...It seems like amazingly no one is making full offers to them. I find it odd The #1 FA has been remarkably silent so far.

Slovakia Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 OH NOES THE YANKEES MIGHT NOT WIN A HUNDERD GAMES MY LIFE IS OVER
Brett Favre Posted December 22, 2004 Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 OH NOES THE YANKEES MIGHT NOT WIN A HUNDERD GAMES MY LIFE IS OVER They're still winning 100 games. The Yankees have to look at Odalis Perez.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Odalis Perez or Milton would be great for the Yankees... ...in a Red Sox fan's perspective.
Bored Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 I say we unban Anglesault just for one day later this week when the Yankees sign Milton.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 you banned anglesault? that's so very wrong. ps yankees sux lol
Brett Favre Posted December 22, 2004 Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 Odalis Perez or Milton would be great for the Yankees... ...in a Red Sox fan's perspective. Really? Perez is pretty good. He's better than David Wells.
mike546 Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 I think the Yankees wil get him eventually. I mean, there has to be another team out there who wants to get involved. Unfortunatley, I think this was the best deal to help them the Yankees were going to get.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Odalis Perez or Milton would be great for the Yankees... ...in a Red Sox fan's perspective. Really? Perez is pretty good. He's better than David Wells. He's simply another pitcher who's stats are helped by Dodgers Stadium

He's better than David Wells. He's simply another pitcher who's stats are helped by Dodgers Stadium Like Pavano in Pro Player? Even though Pavano's ERA was .37 points lower on the road, and opponents' BA was .236? Like 400 points lower? Anyway, Odaliz Perez's era is .10 lower on the road, so that can't be the case.
HarleyQuinn Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 2004(Los Angeles) Home: 3.31 ERA(14 starts) Away: 3.21 ERA(17 starts) 2003(Los Angeles) Home: 2.73 ERA(10 starts) Away: 5.59 ERA(20 starts) 2002(Los Angeles) Home: 2.75 ERA(17 starts) Away: 3.31 ERA(15 starts) 2001(Atlanta) Home: 5.15 ERA(12 games, 9 starts) Away: 4.63 ERA(12 games, 7 starts) He was definitely aided by Dodger Stadium if he was putting up a 2.93 ERA in 41 career starts there. His career ERA in away games while with the Dodgers was 4.04 in 52 starts. That's a difference of 1.11 which is fairly significant.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Odalis Perez is good. Eric Milton is bad.

He doesn't need it as much, according to last year.

Perez is a fine pitcher, but his raw numbers have certainly benefitted from Dodger Stadium.

Yankee Stadium is, around the 5th-7th best pitcher friendly park (don't have the link right now), so if he were to sign with the Yanks, with last year's recent improvement, I think he'll be just fine.
HarleyQuinn Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 And he's become a better pitcher since then. He doesn't need it as much, according to last year. On the contrary, he's remained fairly consistent in his three seasons with the Dodgers. His H/9 has been 7.4, 9.3, and 8.3(last season). His BB/9 has been 1.5, 2.2, and 2.0(last season) and the same case with his K/9 of 6.3, 6.9, and a career worst 5.9 last season. I wouldn't necessarily call him better however he is fairly consistent from year to year. He has improved from his days with Atlanta but not so with the Dodgers.

Bored Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Odalis Perez's most similar pitcher through age 27 is Denny Neagle so he's very likely to get his dick sucked by some filthy whore at age 36.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 I think two general points need to be made here... 1. A larger sample is better than the more recent sample. Seventeen starts are not alot in the grand scheme of things. 2. Just because a pitcher (or hitter for that matter) has better statistics in one park does not necessarily mean he is a better player there. Remember, statistics must be read in context. If a pitcher's ERA rises when he moves to the American League, it isn't necessarily because he has trouble adjusting. A 4.75 ERA in Coors Field, for example, is better than a 3.95 ERA in Dodger Stadium.
Brett Favre Posted December 22, 2004 Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 I agree with that. Can't declare him good or bad without having him pitch in another ballpark. Stadiums like Yankee stadium will help him out because of left field too, so it's a wait and see issue. The first point, it can be used as an argument, but pitchers get better in time. Pitchers usually improve after 3-4 seasons in the league, and Perez improved on the road last year. Here's some RJ deal being called off news: http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yan...ports-headlines
