Interview with The Sandman

Recommended Posts

I found this interview with Sandman at

Trash Talking Radio

He wouldn't be interested in coming back for the WWE version of ECW because he doesn't want to deal with the politics, and just plan doesn't want to wrestle anymore unless it can be fun.

Paul Heyman had an opportunity to sell ECW for $15 million to an investor found by Sandman and Tod Gordon, but he turned it down.

Eddie Gilbert was fired from his booking position in ECW for trying to pick up Tod Gordon's wife.

He left ECW because his deal was he was supposed to be the highest paid wrestler in the federation. Once he found out Sabu had made more then him at a "November To Remember" he called Raven who was in WCW. DDP and Rick Rude talked to Bischoff for him though.

He claims Rick Rude is one of the smartest guys ever in the business, up there with Raven and Terry Funk.

He doesn't trust the Sabu tribute shows recently, because he doesn't trust the promoters with the fundraiser/charity aspect of it.

There were no ribs in ECW because he wouldn't put up with it, but then he proceeds to tell this story.

The 5 biggest chick magnets in wrestling: Buff Bagwell, Chris Chetti, Danny Doring, Raven and Erik Watts.

He used to send his wife over to cockblock Chetti, Doring, or Raven in bars. She would act like their wife and slap em, etc. (In essence, that is a rib, lol)

He says he never drank at home, but he was constantly drunk, coked up and stoned in ECW.

He claims to have a 144 IQ.

His career highlights? The ECW Blind angle, Funk out of the box, Raven taking his wife and kid, and all his matches with Sabu.

His favorites when he was a kid were Superstar Billy Graham and Dusty Rhodes.

He was "drunk as shit" during the 10 lashes angle when he caned Dreamer. He says that angle stopped the crowd from booing Tommy even though he was a face, and got him his respect. Says Tommy never lied and is a straight shooter, and that is what got him his position in WWE.

He would never want to be a booker, but likes helping the younger guys make their moves mean something.

The reason guys like Public Enemy, Mikey Whipwreck or Jerry Lynn never really got over anywhere else is because Paul Heyman made them who they were, and they were never booked correctly elsewhere.

It was Mick Foley's idea to give Mikey the ECW title. Mikey was wrestling in the main event, but still tearing the ring down at the end of the night to pay his dues.

He never made any money from the ECW video games.

He sued Heyman for owing him $150,000 because his lawyer told him to. He claims since he is not huring for money, he doesn't care about it.

He thinks if Flair wrote about him in his book, he must've done something right. He says Flair can call him a "non-wrestler" all he wants, but Ric has been working the same exact match for 15 years. He does say Flair is the best interview ever though.

Ringwork doesn't matter, because the best promo guys have always made the most money. (Rock, Austin, Savage, Hogan, Jake, Sting)

Kevin Sullivan got a $486,000 contract for 5 years with WCW, and took Konnan and all the Mexican wrestlers with him to WCW to screw Paul Heyman. He told Sandman that he was the type of wrestler who could lose every night of the week and still get over more then the guy who beat him.

Everytime he got the ECW title under Paul E. was because someone got hurt, or someone was leaving the company. Guys like Douglas, Cactus, and Austin would all leave, and that's why he would end up as champion.

Konnan's first night in ECW, Sandman advised him to sell more in between moves rather then just do highspots. He told Rey Misterio the same thing, and he says Rey thanks him for helping him to this day for it.

Sandman's on some crazy shit again, who in their right fucking minds would buy ECW for fifteen million dollars?

I doubt anyone in WWE would even look twice at Sandman's talentless corpse also.

God, I hate ECW.

If he came out to a crappier hair band like G'N'R you'd like him. :P

ECW > Joo

Some pretty good stuff in there sprinkled with the usual bs.

He's right about Flair.
