Tawren 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Buffy Seasons 4 and 7 Wrestling Observer subscription $100 in Canadian tire gift certificates Watch Clothes (shit tons) Went to my aunt's last night, whole family was there. Lots of "done your wrestling phase yet?" comments my way. We did a gift exchange much like Bruiser Chong's where you had to spend $10 at a gas station, so I gave 3 bags of sugar. I ended up with a pack of cigarettes and a Coke, and though I don't smoke I felt I won Christmas Eve. TONIGHT: off to the Grandparents for the same people and same thing minus the gift exchange. Long ham dinner, lots of boredom my way.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Red Sox hoodie I probably got the same one as you. Got other articles of clothing too including a South Park Towelie shirt that's a very bright red. I don't like wearing shirts with colors that call out attention, but since it has Towelie I'll wear it. I also got an X-Box bundle set. It came with the X-Box, NCAA Football, and some tennis game. I got the new Star Wars videogame. Knights of the Old Republic; The Sith Lords. Simpsons Season 5 DVD Married...With Children Season 1 DVD Some electric shaver Some sports magazines covering the Red Sox. _________________________________________ I plan on trading in the games that came with the X-Box in the bundle pack along with using cash for GTA: San Andreas. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Best gift was easily the portable DVD player. I probably could've gotten nothing else and would've been satisfied. My main gifts were items I already knew I was getting since I had actually gotten them myself. Some nice shirts and DVDs from the DDD sale a month back. Other than that I got some odds and ends like sweatpants, an ATHF shirt, huge thing of Sour Patch Kids (that I actually specifically requested), and Moneyball. Definitely fewer items than in years past, but that's mainly because the shirts, DVDs and DVD player were all higher end items. I've also got a Cubs franchise hoody and retro Sacramento Kings hoody coming my way whenever I stop being lazy and order them.

AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I got: Simpsons Season 5 Sopranos Season 1: always wanted that, it was a nice surprise Two Pride Fighting DVD's Some gloves cuz I don't have any some money and two books: Photgraphic History of World War II (History major) Muay Thai Training Techniques
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I'll never get an iPod because of its lame and annoying commercials. I wouldn't mind one day having that phone/pager/text messanger/internet thing. The one that's in the commercials where Snoop doesn't know when to put fabric softener in. I suspect those things are like $500 though.
Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 The official haul: CD's: Prince's 1999, U2's How to Dismantle..., The Arcade Fire's Funeral, Slint's Spiderland (!@#*U%R#), and The Beatles' Abbey Road. DVD's: Buffy season 7, Shaun of the Dead, Hellboy Director's Cut, Collateral, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Platoon, and Spider-Man 2. Plus Ulysses, and gift cards for Best Buy and Smoothie King. Good stuff. PS; Shaun wasn't really dull. Some of the exposition was a little long and unnecessary, but it was an overall good flick.
Guest Fire and Knives Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I will be duly impressed if Supes manages to get all the way through Ulysses. I'm still working on Finnegan's Wake; it is an evil bastard of a book. On my end, we have assorted movies and music (Dr. Strangelove being the most notable of these), a whole bunch of pants, a new punching bag that theoretically I will not destroy, and a couple of books (Barry Miles' Hippie among them - very nice.) And about $1000. Sweet.
Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I will be duly impressed if Supes manages to get all the way through Ulysses. I'm still working on Finnegan's Wake; it is an evil bastard of a book. Yeah. Considering I also have The Jungle and Catcher in the Rye to read for school purposes, it might take me a while. And (Y) for Strangelove.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 The suspense in Shaun was handled well enough, and there were a couple of touches I liked (the group's pretending to be zombies so as not to be noticed by the real zombies). However, much of the comedy was more than dumb and the people themselves were flat and uninteresting. I realize having fully-developed characters isn't a pre-requisite for a zombie movie, but, as Superstar was getting at, the film spent thirty fucking minutes setting up these characters with exposition that could've been handled with a couple of lines of dialogue. And one more thing, PLAGIARISM!, I've seen Withnail and I five or six times and watched all the episodes of The Young Ones many more times than that. British humour (note the 'u') isn't lost on me. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 As for the rest of this day, I was I gonna go see The Life Aquatic, but, since I only slept about five hours the night previous, I may just see it tomorrow. Guest Fire and Knives Report post Posted December 25, 2004 What is the appeal of the iPod? I have CDs in my room and CDs in my car. Its purpose is lost on me, but it is electronic and expensive, so I am tempted to get it anyway.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Definitely download iTunes if it doesn't come with the iPod software. It's easily the best interface for that bad boy. To keep up with the Joyce theme, I got a copy of Finnegan's Wake. Hardcore. My parents also finally figured out that they can just order semi-obscure CDs for me rather than frantically search the Best Buy racks, so I had hot n' fresh copies of the Exploding Hearts' Guitar Romantic and the Wrens' The Meadowlands waiting beneath the tree. Its purpose is lost on me, but it is electronic and expensive, so I am tempted to get it anyway. It's a trendy mp3 player. I'd never pay my own money for it, but I'll gladly take one as a gift. And I did. Edwin, I already use iTunes, but the iPod comes with software that allows you to download the program, which is handy, I guess, if you don't know how to go to the website and do it yourself. I don't have to pick and choose 4 or 5 albums to bring to work with me; I've got 300 in my pocket. Great for walking around, evening heading out for just 15 minutes; I listen to music constantly. For $20 you can get a cheap cassette adapter for your car's tape deck that lets you do the same thing with your car speakers. Then there's the shuffle feature, which, when you've got 4000 songs crammed onto the thing, yields some really wonderful transitions. Without my iPod, I never would have known how perfectly Nirvana's "Lithium" glides into Tribe Called Quest's "Award Tour," and that knowledge has deeply enriched my life. Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Hey, Edwin, is A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man a prerequisite for Ulysses? Within the first 10 pages of the latter I've noticed Buck and Stephen touch on something that I assume happened in the former (the death of Stephen's mother). I mean, I'm not having any trouble at the moment (knock on wood), but is there anything that will greatly confuse me if I haven't read A Portrait?

Guest Fire and Knives Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I will have a good time tomorrow when I take all the CDs my dad got me back to Best Buy and get good CDs instead. I ended up with a Bob Dylan best-of that I don't need and a Led Zeppelin compliation that I don't want (got me How the West Was Won - I already have the 4-CD box set.) I'll now be taking suggestions as to what I should buy with the $50+ I'll have in store credit.
