cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 Alro, half of UK's problem is that they seem disinterested half the time, and with the likes of Auburn and GA who can really blame them? But you gotta SQUASH the jobber, it's written in stone. He who is top 5 must squash the jobber. Hey at least UK put up 81 last night....don't worry so much about an 81-73 win...worry about those 60-50 type wins.
Alro 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 I realize what the problem is. The hype of Kentucky basketball (7 titles, 25 SEC titles, all-time winningest team..blah blah) seems to have an adverse effect on the players. Then there was the hype of the freshman class. The teams seems to think that everybody should roll over for them but the reality is that because of all the hype it makes the scrubs want to win more, and thus UK is put to the test by teams who can't win more than 5 conference games. Hype isn't always a bad thing. Hell, my sig is a piece of UK hype. I've bought into it. It makesme love the team more. But there comes a point when you can't rest on past achievments and go out on the court and actually play and then all the titles and past wins don't mean shit. Somebody needs to tell UK that. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 Hey Igg why don't you go put some money on GT going to the Final Four? Bet your whole life savings.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 Why the hell were the students from Villanova rushing the court after beating Boston College? They are Villanova! THEY ARE RANKED 23 IN THE F*CKING NATION! It's like when the fans of DUKE wanted to rush the court after defeating North Carolina. I mean come on, I used to like rushing the court when the major underdog won and I mean like small conference defeating major conference or the bottom of the conference who just plain sucks upsetting the undefeated #1 ranked powerhouse. But now every college in the country wants to do it after winning the most basic of games. It officially needs to be banned. 23 beating 3 is not enough justification to rush the god damn court.
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 The only time anyone should ever rush the court is if/when their team wins the national championship. Every other time it is stupid imo
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Hell BC rushed the court ranked #6 when they beat Syracuse who was ranked LOWER than them. That sort of stuff is idiotic.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 I don't think anyone at OU rushes anything after the Nebraska football incident of 2000. Bob Stoops got pepper sprayed! I don't want them to beat Kelvin Sampson down with a night stick!
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 The Cougars played a pretty good game tonight, but they couldn't quite beat Arizona. 'Zona got a cheap foul call to take the lead with 9 seconds left in OT and then Low ignored a wide open Thomas Kelati and jacked up an ugly three which he missed to lose the game. And for the record, if they'd held on, I would have totally rushed the court, but that's only because we haven't beaten a ranked team at home in forever, and getting the sweep on Arizona would have been a huge lift for the program. As for Georgia Tech, there aren't really odds on them going to the Final Four yet, but if they have a decent finish to their season and they don't get Duke or Illinois in their bracket, you can bet I'll put a pretty hefty sum on them making it back. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Georiga Tech with a healthy B.J Elder is easily the most dangerous team in the tournament. Right now Elder just isn't 100% yet and he seems to only be on the court to keep GT in the tournament. Hell, I'd put money on the Yellowjackets with a healthy Jack and Elder. Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 A very satisfying win last night for my Spartans. Not only did they win, shrugging that monkey off of their backs, but did so rather convincingly. Up about 12-15 with about 4 minutes to go Izzo pulled in the reins and stopped scoring (as he usually does) or they could have won by more. Now they have a tough game Saturday against a scary Indiana team that is playing good ball right now, not only that but MSU has not played well there recently. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Did anyone see John Cheney's bushleague move against St.Joe's? He admits putting in a "thug" player to throw around elbows, and because of it a player on St.Joe's is out for the season. Luckily, Mr. Class act, suspended himself 1 lousy game, if the AD had any guts Cheney's suspended for the remainder of the season. Imagine if Bobby Knight, did anything close to that. It would be the top story on SportsCenter for a week.

therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 They've been following it on CSN for the last couple of days. What makes it worse is that the player who got his arm broken(John Bryant), was a senior and is basically done with basketball now. I think Chaney should just retire after this season or be let go, he's basically pissed on his entire legacy at Temple and in Philly with that incident.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Only for the rest of the regular season. He'll be back for the conf. tourney, and possibly the NIT if Temple makes it.
Alro 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Krzyzewski did the same thing in Duke's game against Wake Forest Sunday. Granted nobody got hurt in that case, but it doesn't change the fact that Coach K sent in a goon to make physical fouls. The difference I see is this: Chaney admitted he was wrong and while his self-imposed punishment was only one game, at least he admitted his fault. Coach K said he was glad to be able to share that moment with Patrick Davidson, where Davidson was out of the game two minutes after it started. That just gives me another reason to hate Dook. Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Cheney also admitted in a press conference the day before the game that he'd put in a "goon" (Cheney's words) if he felt he wasn't getting the calls, so it's not like it was a heat-of-the-moment decsision for him. Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Oh boo fucking hoo... This happens all the time, if you don't believe that you are not watching enough basketball. It's too bad that Bryant got hurt as a result of it, but lets not act like Cheney is some tyrannical figure for doing something that is fairly commonplace in college (and the pros, hack-a-shaq?)...
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2005 Hack-a-shaq doesn't even work and you don't even have to do it to win as the Pistons proved. But yes I don't think it's so far in left field but it's not exactly common either.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2005 If you go back a few pages here you know that I loathe John Cheney anyway and think it was a joke he got put in the Hall of Fame. It's not like this is something NEW though, hell as mentioned above in 1994 he threatened to kill John Calipari at a press conf., haha. Given Calipari's revolting manipuation of refs though, he might have a point. Anyway, the biggest problem Cheney had here was being honest. Coach K brought in a goon, but didn't SAY as much. If Cheney hadn't really made it public nothing would have even come of this. As bad as it sounds, I have often ranted when someone is putting up 25 on U of L stuff like "Let's put in a goon on this guy!"

All hack-a-shaq is the other team basically intentionally fouling Shaq,. They aren't dirty fouls, or done to send a message, it's a game strategy. What Cheney did had nothing to do with the game. Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2005 Really. The "goon" fouled out in ~4 minutes. In addition to injuring Bryant, he was also dishing out elbows to opposing players' heads. When Chaney sent him in, you could see Chaney sticking his elbow out to tell him what to do. It wasn't just contained to the foul on Bryant.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2005 Today is a big day for hoops in KY: UK plays Bama at 1:30 and can lock up the SEC title (not that that is really a big accomplishment, haha), though I imagine Bama is looking at this as a Super Bowl or something bigger than it really is. At 9:00 there's U of L vs. Memphis and I hope to God we don't job twice to those scum. Getting swept by Memphis would be a fiasco. There's also some good stuff today like Zona/Wash for the Pac 10 title, Pitt/UConn, and so on.

Alro 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2005 The Cats win ugly again after coming back from 14 down. Thankfully Sparks decided to go off and score 26 and go 7 for 10 from three point range. I'm still not confident about March, but watching their play in the last few games, despite being down 14 points today, makes me feel a little better. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2005 Alro, maybe it's just me but I thought that was the best half UK has played all year. I mean man that was just awesome. Sparks has to be the most up and down player in basketball today. I'd love to see a Duke/UK matchup with Sparks and Redick both on their game, but likely one of the two would go 3 for 13, haha. This one should end all the "Bama is a FF team" nonsense. You can stick a fork in them, they're done. Hell they might not win the SEC West at this point, LSU is tied with them now I think. That was an incredible half. Watching Sparks go on fire was great. CBS showed a stat that said he shot something like 11% in all three UK losses. I forgot what they said he shot in their wins, but needless to say it was significantly better. UK has won the SEC regular season title (not that it was terribly difficult this year) and yes, Bama is tied with LSU in the West. Today was the first time I paid real close attention to the Tide and while they're not a bad team they are definately not as good as their fans believe. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2005 OU was tired of the losses to bottom tier teams and close games with teams like KSU so they just went out and bitch slapped Baylor today. Baylor played them close during OU's hot streak at the beginning of the season in Waco and OU came back and bent Baylor over today and made them take it with a final score of 103-60. Jesus. OU started out 10 for 10. They hit nearly everything. It was amazing. I loved it. Too bad we'll probably lose in Lubbock. This is great. The Big XII is wide open. OU still has a chance to win the freaking regular season! I can't believe it. With OSU and KU stumbling it's opened up the door for everyone else. Well it opens the door for OU and it was supposed to open it for Tech but they got beat by A&M today. I think the Big XII is better than people are giving it credit this season. Weird thing about OU this season. They've beaten nearly every ranked team they've played except Texas Tech and OSU in stillwater. Texas came to town ranked like 11th. OU beat them. UConn rode in ranked 10th. OU bitch slapped them. OSU rode in ranked like 5th. OU embarassed them. KU rode in ranked 6th or something like that. OU hurt them. Yet they've lose to unranked ISU and Mizzou. So I think all OU has to do to win is face a ranked opponent. Yay. But if you suck then we're dead.
