Dr. Tom Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 The last NFL column of the year It has the playoff scenarios for this weekend's game, news about Reggie White, Steve McNair, and Darren Woodson, and the several-times-postponed diatribe about Barry Bonds and the larger issue of steroids in baseball.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 You didn't put a score on the Bills/Steelers game
strummer Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 didn't realize Woodson had that great of a career. I always saw him as overrated, but it looks like he was the real deal. He'll probably be inducted in the "everyone who has a ring automatically gets in" NFL HOF. I think it's harder to get into MIT than it is the NFL HOF.
sfaJack Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Woodson was a great player, but I don't think he will make the Hall. Nor should he. Currently, there is only one Cowboys' safety that deserves to go, and that's Cliff Harris. To me, Woodson is comparable to Steve Atwater, and I don't exactly see a big push to get him in. Great career for Woody...but no Hall. I know we missed him terribly this season as Tony Dixon sucks ass.
Spaceman Spiff Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Sure, get rid of rankings as soon as Miami starts rocketing up the ladder.
Guest Vitamin X Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 That Ravens bias is utterly ridiculous. I'm going to start writing the NFL column next year.
Dr. Tom Posted December 30, 2004 Author Report Posted December 30, 2004 Well, I've never denied that I'm biased. However, considering I spent most of the Ravens-Steelers game recap criticizing my hometown team (and the myriad other shots I've taken at them this year), I'm not really sure where this talk of bias comes from. Yes, I devote more time to recapping the Ravens' games than the other games (even more when I just don't get time to actually write about the other games, like this week), but I take them to task when they screw up. And they've been doing that a lot lately...
Guest Vitamin X Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Oh, it's not the fact that you do or don't criticize your team, it's that lately that's the ONLY team you're recapped/reviewed in the past couple weeks, or so it seems, that's what bugs me since it goes: RAVENS~!: blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahJAMAL~!blahblahblahblah and the rest of the games.. Might as well call it Raven Instant Replay.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Just out of curiousity, did you write the Reggie White memorial yourself? Not important or anything, just at the end when it said "our condolences" I assumed that you got it from some other website, and it just seemed very generic is all. Although admittedly there's not much insight that you could provide in the matter.
Dr. Tom Posted January 3, 2005 Author Report Posted January 3, 2005 I got some of the details from NFL.com, and the quotes from the medical examiner and all. The rest was my writing. "Our condolences" is pretty standard, and I presumed I wasn't the only staffer/writer of TSM who would have those sentiments. VX: I do other games as time permits. I don't have infinite time to write the column. The previous week, I was able to write a paragraph about every other game. This time, that was not the case. If I didn't have to do things like playoff scenarios, it might've been different.
