The Daily Bowl Discussion Thread: December 31st

Well props to ASU's Sam Keller for his first start in a bowl. Keller went to my high school so I remember reading about him during his career. A good win for ASU and hopefully a good start to a successful college career for Keller. On a side note, look out for the starting QB for Miami, Kylie Wright who went to Keller's rival school.

Good to see the Pac 10 win some games this year, hopefully this carries over to the Pac 10 becomming a tougher conference again. I wish I had seen the game, but errands will suck you time away. But I am happy to see a player from my old H.S. do well.

Overall there have been some real good games this year.

Miami is winning 17-3 at the half but they are not dominating by any stretch. Leak is not playing well and all of UM's points have come off special teams.

Unfortunately for the Pac 10 fans(fortunately for the anti-pac 10 fans) the good teams in the Pac 10 are going down(Cal and UCLA).

Are you going to insist continuing a debate you had with a poster (A_MikeSC) who no longer posts here? Just drop the fucking Big XII South vs. Pac-10 bullshit already. The rivalry is in your head only.

Also UCLA finished 5th in the conference (Arizona State was 3rd, Oregon State was 4th).

Now to actually focus on an actual battle going, the Peach has just been flat out ugly. Miami now opens up a 24-3 lead.

I fucking hate you and will never EVER come remotely close to tolerating you guys, but you're representing the SEC here! Come ON, Florida! Geez, for the conference if nothing else!

I'm rooting for Florida. I feel dirty. Gotta love bowl season.

You can tell it's bowl season, when you have Tennessee fans rooting for the Florida Gators. :P

I never understood the whole "they are in my conference, so i'll cheer for them tonight" mentality. If you hated them all season, why stop now?

*MY* Team is MOH but I don't "root" for Marshall to win it's bowl game simply because they are fellow conference rival.

Thats the deal...they are STILL my rival.

In basketball team where Cincy is my team, I didn't go "they are out now, GO LOUISVILLE!"...I still wanted 'Ville to lose. Because why would I want my fucking RIVAL to win.

Amen Shadow...I feel the exact same way. I'm a Louisville fan (earlier I screwed up and was posting under my bro's ID on here, spideyfan) but there's no way I'd cheer for Cincy AT ALL. Hell, they got killed by Illinois tonight in basketball and it amuses me greatly. Hell, when Kenyon Martin broke his leg against St. Louis in 2000 it made my day (there were extenuating circumstances there).

Besides, why would I even CARE what C-USA did in the bowls? U of L is leaving now anyway so fuck em all.

Another reason why college football doesn't make a whole slew of sense. I wouldn't root for the Badgers in the tournament if the Illini went out, or the Blue Devils or Tar Heels once the Demon Deacons are gone. I didn't want the Lightning to beat the Flames to preserve the integrity of the Eastern Conference, nor did I cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals to do it for the ol' National League. So why does it apply to college football? Stupid.

Because if your team beat these teams in the conference your team looks so much better when the conference does really good in bowl games.

Exactly. Everyone has said the Big Ten is weak this year, which I why I want the Big Ten to do well in bowl games to prove that they weren't weak, they were just competitive. (I'm a Michigan fan btw) This would help prove the Michigan is better than people thought, and it might shut some people up that thought they did well because they play in the weak Big Ten.

So far the Big Ten is what? 2-1... damn Purdue... what the hell happened to them in the 2nd half of the season?

At first thought, I was not big on the rooting for conference rivals idea, but the more I think about it if I was a fan of a big team I probably would. I would want as much good feeling going on about my team as possible going into next season so I had a good standing in the preseason polls (since those determine the title contenders more than anything else). Just remember how fucked up college football can be and the idea will make sense.

It is different in the pros where your record is your record and that is what everything goes by, not votes.

Well I guess the theory on college football is to root for the teams your team plays because their results affect how your team fares in the BCS or some such crap.

I'll put it this way in regards to basketball. C-USA had 6 bids last year. Do you seriously think I was glued to my TV cheering on the dubious likes of Cincy, Memphis, and DePaul?? If anything I wanted them all to get stomped the 1st round. Ideally I want my team to do well while rivals go down to bitter defeat, heh.
