Lil' Bitch Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I tried Spybot and Hijack This and its still there. I'm guessing I have to delete it through the Registry to get rid of it for good? Thanks in advance.
Mole Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Umm, try going into Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
Dandy Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 This is the same thing I have going on right now. I started a thread about it a couple of threads down. I have ran Spybot to death, went to Add/Remove Programs and got rid of a BUNCH of other spyware that came with it, but I can't find this one anywhere. Mine is the IEPlugin Search Bar. I left for a week's vacation and my roommate obviously clicked on something he shouldn't have, because this shit was on here when I came back.
Dandy Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Okay, I also have now ran HijackThis! and did a log file to make sure I wasn't deleting something I needed. Would someone that has a good knowledge about this sort of thing please reply (if I am still viewing this folder at the time) or message me? Thanks in advance.
Guest Askewniverse Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Did you try Ad-Aware SE? You could also try PestScan. You can get a free online scan (www.pestscan.com). The results should tell you which registry key (if applicable) to delete.
Lil' Bitch Posted January 1, 2005 Author Report Posted January 1, 2005 Askewniverse, you rock! It worked, now its gone! WOO! Thanks man.
Eclipse Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 If it ever comes back: To really maximize what Spybot and everything deletes, run them in Safe Mode, if you haven't already.
Dandy Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 Okay, when I went to pestscan.com, at first it wouldn't connect to that page and now it redirects me to http://store.ca.com/v2.0-img/operations/sa.../promo53025.htm and it promotes Pest Patrol instead of Pest Scan. Is this the item I want, or is this spyware ads in and of itself?

Guest Askewniverse Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 PestScan was the old name of the free online scan (Pest Patrol is the actual software). The place you were redirected to is the new address. It's the one you want. To start the free online scan, click on "Start Your Free Scan Now." eTrust is a reliable brand and that site shouldn't contain any spyware (I ran both Ad-Aware and Spybot just to make sure). Just as a precautionary measure, you should back up your registry (in case you screw up) before deleting anything from it.
Dandy Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 Okay, I promise this is my last stupid question on the subject...... I had 96 "pests" after running the scan. Now how do I get rid of them? Do I have to pay?
Guest Askewniverse Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 You don't have to pay. After the scan is finished, you should see a list of "pests" detected on your computer. If you click on one of the detected "pests," you will be taken to a page (it should open in another window) which will give you more info on the "pest" and how to remove it manually.
