The Daily Bowl Discussion Thread: January 1st

Keep in mind that LSU is one of the best teams at getting their opponents to blow a kick...

They got Alex Serna of Oregon State to blow 3 PATs.

They got Auburn's kicker to blow his PAT at first... although he got the retry after a penalty.

etc. etc. etc.

Wow... God damn Iowa... whats with all the Big Ten teams giving away wins in the 4th quarter...? They better get this field goal.

A touchdown works too... I guess...

If #8 is Ronnie Prude, my uncle will have a stroke...

Prude is the guy who got the penalty against Auburn which let Auburn take a second PAT attempt, which gave them the game.

Hopefully Utah wins this. I don't want to listen to an offseason of BCS apologists strokign themselves off over mid-majors never having a chance.

Bumping this for the Fiesta Bowl unless someone thinks it needs its own thread.

No chance of that. This game is so far off the map that you'd need Lewis and Clark to find it.

Looks like it could be a pretty good game, though. Once they get warmed up, we could see as high-scoring a game as the Rose Bowl.

I really wish they could've just done Auburn vs. Utah and Virginia Tech vs. Pittsburgh. Auburn/Utah is infinately more interesting than what they currently have.

Auburn would have wiped Utah out. Utah gets to beat Pitt here and it'd be a "victory" for mid-conference euthusiasts because in a few years people will neglect the fact the Big East stole a BCS slot from Cal, 'Ville and even Boise St and just see the result

Utah D. Pittsburgh=Fiesta Bowl. and Mid-Conference apologists will just point at this game and go "SEE! LOOK!"

This was one of the more amazing games I have seen from the BCS. I complain about the BCS a good bit, and I am still against their system. But they made the right choice by placing Texas in the Rose Bowl, and not California. First of all, Vince Young has officially proven that he is a great quarterback, a young man who can definitely make plays when he needs to. His passing wasn't bad, but the problem for Michigan is that they couldn't stop him from running with the ball. When it comes to just running with the ball as a quarterback, Vince Young is one of the best in the NCAA this season. Young really proved his worth, and I don't think he can be compared to anyone who has done well in the NCAA. When it comes to passing, he may not be a Peyton Manning. When it comes to running, he may not be a Michael Vick. Vince Young is simply put ... Vince Young. He showed me something today.

I will give mad props to Michigan; they played one hell of a game. This was one of those games where I didn't want to see any of the competitors lose. Braylon Edwards showed why is the top wide receiver coming out of college this year and heading into the NFL. The men had three touchdowns, and the Texas defense seemingly couldn't stop the man. Michigan really had a great passing game going, thanks to their young quarterback Henne who had four passing touchdowns. It was a shame that Michigan lost this wonderful game, but they still looked good and shouldn't feel bad. Both teams played very well in this game, easily one of the better Rose Bowls I have seen. A lot of fans and critics of the NCAA questioned whether Texas should be in the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl is usually between the Pac-10 and Big Ten Champions. However, for the first time, a Big 12 team was accepted, and Texas received their first BCS spot. The game didn't disappoint at all.

Your post is almost laughable. It's obvious you've seen Vince Young play once this season and anyone who follows college ball would laugh hysterically at you for suggesting Young is one of the best in the NCAA. Texas is an extremely one dimensional team and it's because Young is an incomeptent passer. He threw for less than 1700 yards and only threw 1 more TD than INT. Hardly the numbers the best would put up. I don't have fumble numbers in front of me but I'm sure he lost several this season.

Yeah, you can't tell me that a team that averaged 308 rushing yards and 168 passing yards per game coming in to the Rose Bowl is balanced. Seriously, man. Come on.

Does it really matter if they were balanced? They won the god damn game and proved they deserved to be in the Rose Bowl. And their unbalanced attack still made Michigan's defense look silly.

If Michigan didn't have an offense to speak of and the Texas D wasn't playing like shit(though Edwards was all Edwards and not bad D) then Michigan would've been throughougly embarassed.

Oklahoma was here two years ago, dumbass. ( I didn't get my licks in in the Hitler thread.)

That's true, my mistake. They did beat Washington State that year. The only other time a Big-12 Team took part in the Rose Bowl was when Nebraska lost to Miami, but that year the Rose Bowl was the National Championship game. Their usual trend to have a Pac-10 team play a Big Ten team had to be thrown out of the window.

Certainly Texas isn't balanced, but they didn't need to be. Their unbalance manners led them to a one loss season, so it worked out just fine for them. Texas doesn't have a refined offense, and Vince Young isn't a traditional quarterback. But he and the Texas team did what it took to win games and make it to a BCS game. Plus, especially in this case, the Longhorns may not have won if it wasn't for Vince Young. Vince Young's strength is his legs, and Texas allows him to use it rather than make him a pocket passer. They use a system that works for them. If Vince was a pocket passer, they would not have the success they have found this season. Right now, we are seeing quarterbacks break the traditional quarterback roles, and teams are beginning to embrace it. While the numbers may not be good, they have produced wins.

Where's that Scanners pic when you need it?

Why b/c you're wrong? B/c your team got beat?

Everything I just said was true. I was responding to everyone saying they were one dimensional b/c apparently they got it done being just one dimensional.
