Guest Dazed Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Dont forget no-selling his finisher and destroying its cred. Don't be so melodramatic. The crossface is not destroyed.
2GOLD Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 That debate was completely pointless, if only the New York fans would chant "WHAT" all the time and no sell this stupid gimmick so it can go away and never come back. Beating up JR has become almost a heel requirement at this point. It's getting old. But JR's line was so bad that it was classic unintentional comedy. The show had some positives, like Batista and Regal. The Jericho/Edge match would have been better had they not again used a lame rope finish. Which they ended up using again in the Captain C match later on. But tons of negatives. Like the constantly worthless Christy, the Kane/Lita deal which continues to make no sense no matter how you examine it, and the knowledge MAVEN gets a title shot at the PPV. A PPV that is looking really really bad.
Guest Rrrsh Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Seriously tho, any guy who is big can theoretically do that. Batista isnt a 9 time defending champ. He a enforcer in a stable and has never won a singles title ever. So if he can do it, any big guy can do it. When Taker does, it bloody retarded but at least he is a Main Eventer. Batista is a mid-carder.
Guest Thrashist Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Going over someone HHH couldn't beat in 2004 sends a message to the fans that Batista is a better wrestler than HHH, thus making the upcoming match-up compelling. The issue isn't whether Batista should go over Benoit clean. That is completely fine with me. But their execution was terrible. It was the first match on Raw and it was treated as nothing. If they really wanted to put Batista over and maintain that Benoit is a big time player, this should have been the main event on some other Raw. And since there's some debate, yes, I do think this match was clean. They have consistently pushed Benoit strong so hopefully this won't be a problem, but I simply disagreed with this decision tonight. They could have utilized a clean win over Benoit much better..
Myxamatosis Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Besides, Benoit's getting beat "clean" in a great match doesn't make him seem less important. Losing to man in the midst of an amazing match like that one gets both wrestlers over. The match wasnt graet or amazing. It was a 7 minute opener on RAW during a hype show for a crappy PPV. It makes Benoit look like shit and when Batista does NOTHING on Sunday, his win will be forgotten. But Benoit looking like a jobber wont. I don't get the logic here. Let me see: Batista winning the match will be forgotten, but Benoit losing won't? Sounds like Smark Double Standard rearing its ugly head once again. And by the way, the match, as short as it was, was well-paced and told a good story. Benoit's wrestling nearly won out over Batista's power. If it wasn't for the exposed turnbuckle shot, Benoit had a damn good chance of "slaying the dragon," so to speak. It was the kind of match a fan could look at and say: "Well, this match could've gone either way."
Myxamatosis Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Give me a whiskey double post please!
Guest Rrrsh Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 You can think its a ***** match all you want. The match was not important at all. It was an opener in a hype RAW. It wasnt a hyped match or even a Main Event match.
Guest Rrrsh Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Smark Double Standard? No, him winning wont mean anything because it wont go anywhere as it goes to teh EC. His fued with HHH will happen and him being sucsessful would have happeneed with or without this match. Plus teh match won't be emphasixed due to it being a throwaway match. However, this DESTROYED the crossface and opens up the fact that anyone with power can counter this move.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 This is your typical "They made Benoit look bad! Waa-waaa" bitchfest. Don't pay attention to it. As usual they hold no weight.
Guest Rrrsh Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Or they needlessly killed off a mian Player the EC and I would say the same if they did it to Edge. Whatever.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Killed off? Everyone got beat or punked down tonight save for Orton. All tonight did was say "Orton's not winning". Losing a match that ultimately is forgotten already by the non fickle fans unlike us isn't Killing someone off. Benoit was not buried here.
Tawren Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 That was easily Batista's best match ever. That isn't saying much, but it is something. That submission was absolutely swank. Batista staying down after one german suplex was perfect because it shouldn't take 90 to put someone down, and the headbutt was a great nearfall. Batista fighting out of the crossface did not kill the move. They established early on that Benoit was faster than Batista but Batista was a monster, so Batista fighting out made sense especially when Benoit hadn't wrenched the move in. Batista struggled to fight out of it and the rams into the post was really neat. Best match on Raw in a long, long while. Rest of the show was shitty crap (yes, both), but Batista/Benoit was world's better than I expected.
Guest wildpegasus Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I've noticed over the years with Benoit that he just simply is not afraid to lose cleanly. I would dare say at times he volunters to do it. Yes, it's true that the bookers decide what to do but I think everybody who's watched wrestling for awhile know that certain wrestlers on the same kayfabe status/ranking level will job more often while other won't job as much.
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 1. Hassans promos are too good to be wasted with fucking debates. They need to have him destroying more guys, quicker. And he needs a nickname. And they need to get rid of his ridiculous headpiece. And his music fucking owns. He should have poured oil or something on the fallen JR and King or SOMETHING. Didn't they do this with the Unamericans too? REVOLUTIONARY~! angle here. Hassan and Davari could be so much more if the writing was smarter and more ballsy. 2. I liked Batista better when he was blonde and called Brock Lesnar. Brock did the same things much more impressively. They should at least give Benoit a basket for all the carrying he's doing. They're INTENTIONALLY making Batista a face, right?? 3. Who is Orton blowing to get all these hot finishes? First with Edge and now here, really well booked finishes with a smart progression. Batista came out because he's with Evolution, Benoit came out cause he lost to Batista earlier on, Shawn came out because the ref was out, Edge came out because he wanted to take HBK out before the PPV, Jericho came out because he lost to Edge earlier on. The crowd was dead until that finishing sequence and almost turned on Orton, but at the end of the show they popped huge. If Orton isn't blowing anyone already, he should be. 4. Someone give Grenier the title NOW. God he rules. 5. God that Benjamin is ATHLETIC! I so want to cheer his athleticism. Being able to run fast and jump high is COOL! 6. Why was the crowd chanting "USA!" and why did JR bust out "Love it or Leave it"? Really dumb stuff that Hassan should have been able to jump on and strike down.
Guest uyaljg Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 How weak did Lita's punches and brawling look compared to what Victoria and Trish were doing in their match? And who does a monkey flip during a beatdown? Yes, Lita is an idiot.
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 All the women throw shitty punches. They should consider BLOCKING.
Guest uyaljg Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 4. Someone give Grenier the title NOW. God he rules. Sylvain Grenier is the new GOD OF PRO WRESTLING. All the women throw shitty punches. Not Molly.
CanadianChick Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I actually thought Trish and Victoria's punches were pretty solid tonight.
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Yes, even Molly. GOD OF PRO WRESTLING!
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 CanadianChick... You're a chick. Chicks just can't punch.
KingPK Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Well Trish throws forearms, which by design look better than punches. Her chops still suck, though. Hassan and Davari could be so much more if the writing was smarter and more ballsy. They're probably too scared to go any further with Hassan. Having him do a promo from Ground Zero saying that this was where not only two towers fell, but also the civil liberties of Arab-Americans were lost would do wonders. Right now he's just another version of La Resistance, the Un-Americans, etc etc etc.
CanadianChick Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 CanadianChick... You're a chick. Now how did you crack my code?
razazteca Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Batista channeling the monster powers of the past from Sid/Brock is more impressive than Orton pretending to be Rock/Austin. I can't wait until the day Batista becomes inspired by Road Warrior Hawk or Mike Awesome. Nothing says monster like no selling chair shots and countering with a running powerbomb to the outside. Ever notice that the RKO is no sold the 1st time Orton does the leap of faith? Monday Night Heat was not good with Coach by himself. Why can't Gene Snitsky put some divas thru tables like the Dudleys did back in the day?
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 The King better not get in any offense at the PPV, and instead have him get beaten down and lose by ref stoppage. I'd have Hassan bathe in Kings blood, but they'll be keeping colour down for the Elimination Chamber.
KingPK Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 The RKO looks horrible now. I have no idea why he keeps using one arm like that. I still think utilizing it like DDP used the Diamond Cutter (he can snap it off anytime from a bunch of positions) would make it more dangerous.
CanadianChick Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Why can't Gene Snitsky put some divas thru tables like the Dudleys did back in the day? Because the only ones that can take the bump are the four in teh division and Stacy. And two of the four are heels. And the Dudleys are still in the company.
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Holy Shit, they should SO make Batista Mike Awesome. Where's his Judge Jeff Jones? Now how did you crack my code? I will never divulge my secrets.
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 And the Dudleys got over by putting women through tables.
razazteca Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Will the Arabs get to do the magic carpet ride finish?
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 If not the carpet, the loaded turban.
