This is probably the last I'll say without seeing it for myself, but what exactly are these people offended by? That a slur is used, regardless of context? Even if he said "I won't have a filthy chink in my house.", there probably wouldn't be an issue if it was acknowledged as innapropriate within the context of the film.

They're offended because "chink" is considered a slur to Chinese people (and, apparently, Margaret Cho). Although personally I haven't heard it used since the 80's.

 

Things 10,000 times worse were said on The Jeffersons without incident.

Sadly, The Jeffersons probably wouldn't get made in this PC age.

And I still say, white people get to walk around tax free while all the minorites get the joke hurled at them that "aren't that bad" and they need to "just stop being so sensitive".

It never cut it. It has all if the power behind it as someone getting the best insult in the history of man on you and you come back with "yeah...well....you....SMELL!!!"

 

Thats why violence ensues when racial statments are hurled at most miniorites. Not because we are really that pissed...we just don't have a good comeback.

Juk Sing - Hollow Bamboo. The expression is meant to mean "caught between two cultures," and is used in a derogatory manner similar to "Banana"

 

FOB - acronym meaning "Fresh Off the Boat". Similar to the acronym for Without Papers.

The ones you haven't heard of are likely from different regions of the US, and plenty of others (especially the Irish ones) probably are from other countries.

now that i read this post, I remember in Meet the Parents, Deniro confronts Stiller after they supposedly find a pipe in his jacket. Then he does the whole 'I'll be watching you," bit complete with the eye to eye sign language. He does tell Stiller he 'will take you down. I will take you down to Chinatown baby'. Anyway, that popped up in my head.

 

Being an asian person myself, you can't get offended about this. Maybe that one asian support group just wanted to get their name's organization out there.

I enjoyed the film. It's nothing amazing, but it's a good comedy and if you liked the first you'd probably like this one. Dustin Hoffman was great in it.
