bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2005 Kevin Smith had been hired to write the screenplay at one time. Smith decided to leave once producer Jon Peters told him he "didn't want Superman to wear the suit, he didn't want him to fly, and he wanted Superman to fight a giant spider in the end". Smith thought these demands were ridiculous and were not true to the character. Director Tim Burton was also briefly attached to the project for a time before bowing out for similar reasons. Did they keep this script? Where did you hear this? Because this sounds like complete crap. How can one have a Superman movie when he doesn't wear the suit OR fly? There is no way Singer would stand for this. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Everything said there is true... but this was LOOONG before Singer ever came onboard, and that script/version/story has long since been scrapped (THANK GOD) Peters (and Burton also reportedly) hated the flying effects in the Donner Superman. Some visual designs of Peters/Burton's "vision" of Superman exist out there on the internet (i'll have to try and find them though). He looks like Edward Scissorhands. It looks awful, like an abortion.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2005 Burton's Superman. Tim Burton is crazy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "The big change [from Smith's draft], I'm told, is in the third act when Brainiac and Luthor merge to become 'Luthiac.' I wish I was kidding." - Kevin Smith I thought that JLU episode was referencing the old TV show, where Braniac looks like a green Luthor without pants. Guess I was wrong. There's too much DOOM in that Doomsday sketch.
Guest JMA Report post Posted August 1, 2005 Damn, Burton's "Superman" looks like a cross between Frankenstein's Monster, Bizarro, and Edward Scissorhands.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 1, 2005 I'm a Tim Burton fan, but I don't know how anyone could've thought he'd be a good director for Superman. Well, I'm sure his success on Batman was why WB thought he'd be good for the project. Watching his movies would make it rather obvious that Superman isn't a project made for him. SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2005 That page doesn't mention that the Kevin Smith script had a lot of stuff Smith didn't want in it due to interference by Jon Peters (i.e. a giant spider, no costume, no flying, Brainiac fighting polar bears).
