Guest sek69 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 I know I'l a little late to the party with this but I just picked up the game used the other day and I really like it. I come from the "Any game without the AKI controls sucks" mindframe but this game was really easy to get the hang of controls-wise. I liked the story mode, starting out in OVW (or "WWE Developmental" as they call it) before getting your shot at the big leagues. I was also impressed graphics wise. I come from the N64 era where I owned every wrestling game that came out for the system, and I got used to the somewhat blocky wrestler bodies those games had. Maybe that set my standards somewhat low, but I was impressed at how good the finished product looked. My only complaint was the roster. They have a bra and panties match included but only 4 women to chose from? Not to mention poor Molly has to endure the humliation of having her bald head memorialized forever in a video game. They included damn near every jobber they can think of (Garrison Cade? The Bashams?) yet there's no Dudley Boys? Roster weirdness aside, this is the first WWF/E game I've played in the post-N64 era that I've liked. I couldn't stand the control engine in the Smackdown series and I don't have an Xbox but I heard RAW had issues too.
Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 I really hated it when it came down to two things: tag matches and the storyline mode. In the old days, you oculd switch focus in a tag match with the push of a button. Here, I had to twist and turn the C-stick in every direction for two minutes before I could end up facing the guy I needed to face. Maybe I wasn't doing it just right. Maybe it's because I didn't have the instructions. But the wrestler should turn on a dime when you implement a joystick into controlling the way he turns. Storyline mode...original idea, kinda. It beats No Mercy with Chris Jericho re-enacting every Rock promo from 2000 with horrendous results. However, two things bothered me. One, I didn't like being thrust into Evolution as soon as I went to Raw. I know there was probably a point to it, but I'd like to have a choice in what I do, and I'd like that choice to reflect on the gameplay. That brings me to my second point: nothing reflects on the gameplay. I lose a match? Oh, I get to try again! And again! And again! I'd much rather see the affect of losing a match than playing the same match over and over. And what matches they were! Myself and Randy Orton (Orton as my partner just THRILLED me, by the way), the tag team champions, against Garrison Cade and Mark Jindrak! Wow! And in a thirty minute draw no less! I don't want to wrestle Jindrak and Cade for half an hour. At least a draw goes to the champions-no, wait! "You must win this match to continue!". The only way I won any battle with WWE Day of Reckoning was when I took it back to Movie Gallery. Sure, it had some pros, but it had too many cons. I hated it. Guest Evolution Report post Posted January 8, 2005 Played it at EBGames for about 30 minutes and didn't enjoy any of those 30 minutes. The blocking system was too weird for me and I also found it hard to understand the finisher system. Perhaps if I had read the instructions in advance, I would've been better prepared, but I still didn't find anything that I liked about it.
Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 I liked it; the game reminded me a little of the old N64 engine. The game is solid in exhibition mode, although I will agree that the story mode stinks.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 Some friends of mine got it when it first was released. We played a fair amount of multiplayer and that was really fun, but I haven't played the story mode. Everyone seemed to agree, however, that the story mode itself was too linear and frustrating. They said that the CPU would resort to very cheap tactics more often than not. Then again, that happened in No Mercy as well. All in all, it's a fun game and is better than WrestleMania XIX, but seeing as how I own WMXIX I decided to wait before purchasing Day of Reckoning. I'd likely pick it up if I saw it for $35 or less and had some extra cash on me.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 I bought this game for $10 at Hollywood Video the week before Christmas. It's not a bad game, could be worse...
LJSexay 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2005 it's as close to the game style we're used to without taking the dust off our n64's, sekka. Play WMXIX as well, you may end up liking it a littttttttle more, if only because GOLDUST is in it!!
Guest sek69 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 Not liking the game because you didn't fully know the control system is lazy, IMO. My copy didn't come with the manual and I went through the tutorial system and learned how to do all the moves. I went on to Gamefaqs and printed a move list. I don't know, I liked the game. My only complaint with the story mode is how weak your created character is. I like the concept of working your way through OVW and having to impress people (why they chose Coach I don't know). Another thing that puzzled me is how they didn't include every theme song. I mean, how can they not include Ric Flair's theme? It's classcial music that has been public domain forever. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 Hey, it's a big reunion. LJ, Sek, and Matt, together again. And since LJ mentioned Goldust... bring back SekDust! Warm and fuzzy memories aside, I also have wondered why Flair's theme isn't in the game. Actually, I'm pretty sure that his actual theme hasn't been in any of the games- Raw 1 & 2, the SD series, or WMXIX/DoR.
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 There were a few things noticable when I first played.. JBL wasn't in it. He's the WWE Champion at the time. When the champ isn't in the game, something's not right there. But it's good, better than the other GC games, way behind the SD series.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that his actual theme hasn't been in any of the games- Raw 1 & 2, the SD series, or WMXIX/DoR. Flair's music isn't in the game because of legal reasons. But it's kinda retarded tho. Since you have to pay for the game, the creators of certain types of music are entitled to a percentage of the money generated. But you also have to pay for pay per views, which that music is also used on. Hmmmm.

Besides, if WWE had to pay for Flair's theme music I'm sure he would have had a new one by now.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 I had it for a month or so, and I hated it.... Not that SvR was much better, but at least I could make a namesake CAW that looked like me, and I had a better time playing it, even though I have gone back to HCTP, because it has a better CAW engine. Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 Not liking the game because you didn't fully know the control system is lazy, IMO. My copy didn't come with the manual and I went through the tutorial system and learned how to do all the moves. I went on to Gamefaqs and printed a move list. Apparently I was doing it right since it would eventually work. I'm saying if they're going to program a focus with the C-Stick, it should actually respond when I move the C-Stick. That's my only complaint with the controls. Everything else worked fine.
Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 I really enjoy the game. A Better story mode and a better roster and the game would be perfect. I just hate the Smackdown control engine, so I'll take Day of Reckoning over any post-N64 game.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 I like it, but as mentioned earlier, there should be more guys to choose from. Plus, here is the "extensive" list of legends Bret Andre Piper Valentine Beefcake

TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2005 I haven't unlocked Bret yet, I wonder if the video game version does the same five moves over and over again like the real one. No, it's more like three. But they are the Three Moves Of Doom!
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2005 Coincidently, not once has Bret even tried to work the legs or put me in the sharpshooter.
DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2005 Yet, whenever he puts you in the sharpshooter once, your legs end up in yellow and your back is in red.
Guest sek69 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 I think it might be the set amount of damage assigned to the move. Lance Storm put me in it (he has it as a ground grapple Special) and it put my back in red and legs in yellow. BTW, the more I play the game the more I like it. I just made it on RAW in story mode and I celebrated by having a Brutus Beefcake vs Greg Valentine hardcore match. It made me wonder if they weren't going for some kind of inside joke when I noticed Brutus's taunts are both Hulk Hogan poses.
Guest sek69 Report post Posted January 23, 2005 Let me just say the Royal Rumble match in the story mode is one of the most frustrating things I've had to do in a game in a long time. It always comes down to me vs John Cena, and the AI is just unfuckingbelievable. I can hit him with my special 5 (!!!) times in a row and he always hulks up. He hits me with his special twice and I'm dead meat. I ended up having one of those "walk away or break your controller" moments.
DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2005 For those of you who have trouble winning tag matches: If you hold the Z button and hit one of the directional pads, you're partner will come and do one of the following things: Z+D-Pad Down-Sets up for double team Z+D-Pad Left and Right-Attacks Legal Opponent Z+D-Pad Up-Attacks Illegal Opponent. When I found out that you could do that stuff, the game just got a hell of a lot more enjoyable for me.
DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2005 I just had the most ridiculous Fatal 4 way between my Homicide, Austin Aries(me), Samoa Joe and CM Punk Caws. The match had a 30 minute time limit, and the match came down to the WIRE. All of the guys got bloodied and the match had the most ridiculous spots. -Aries 450 Splash onto Samoa Joe, which led directly into a pin. -Joe triest to German Suplex Punk, but Punk mule kicks him into Aries who German Suplexes Joe. -Homicide hitting a Cop Killer on Aries who lands ontop of Punk, who's trying to pin Samoa Joe. The ending was insane. I hit Homicide with a 450 while he was standing. Joe, who has a special, grabs me and starts his Suplex combo. Punk, being the opportunist, runs over and pins Homicide while I'm getting suplexed.
Guest sek69 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 I found out a good way to win tag matches is to use a backslide to get the pin. For some reason, when the illegal man comes in to break up the pin they try to kick you and it misses just enough times to get a pin. I've won all the tag matches in story mode that way. In a somewhat related note, I recently got Wrestlemania XIX and I can't figure out why Flair's music is in that game but not DOR. Not to menton Hogan has his Jimi Hendrix music too. It seems like DOR is somewhat of a step backwards. Better story mode, but less characters. Added a bra-and-panties match, took out all but 4 women. BTW, any word on the next GameCube WWE game? LJSexay 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 (edited) sorry for the hellacious bump, but... I just bought this game, after playing WMXIX forEVER. I've got to say... I think WMXIX, with the exception of DOR's submission system, plays more smoothly. Is that just me? If you were all made to compare WMXIX to DOR to DOR2... which do you prefer, and why? razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2005 The most annoying thing in the game is the damn theme song for the CAW in story mode.
