This week in the NBA

Recommended Posts

I lost a lot of respect for Chris Webber tonight. I expected his spending the entire fourth quarter whining about the calls the Rockets got (and there weren't very many of them), and his gloating and talking shit to fans when hitting the game tying shot. Shame he can't do that in a game that really matters.

But to cap it all off, he is spotted LISTENING INTO THE ROCKETS HUDDLE in the closing seconds of the game. I don't know if it's legal or how people feel about it, but that's fuckin' bush league horseshit, in my opinion.

In what will surely be shocking to everyone, a Portland Trailblazer has been suspended. Darius Miles out for two games for 'conduct detrimental to the team' and 'insubordination', Portland mut have a set quota to reach each season for suspensions/arrests/fines. Though they still manage to beat the Clippers, it's good to know there's still at least one team they can beat most of the time.

Also, not sure if they'll show it on the upcoming SC's, but a replay of Baron Davis' 3-pointer with .7 seconds from the 2002 playoffs against Orlando was shown on the most recent version. It was waved off, but actually appeared to be good after later reviews, and that combined with Reggie Miller's three from the same year against the Nets, which was counted but appeared to not be good, resulted in the lights that have been around the basket ever since. This was discussed briefly last season after the Derek Fisher ordeal. It was the first time I've ever seen the Davis shot, so I just thought I'd talk about it for fun, but it's impossible for me to tell without taping it and putting it in slow-mo if it was good or not. (Kyle Korver hit a similar shot tonight against the Hornets with .4 left, and it was allowed after instant replay was checked but very well could have been waived off otherwise because it was really close. The Hornets won anyway.)

That game was on NBC, too. I miss NBA on NBC.

I heard Miles used a 'racial slur' against Cheeks. Am I the only one saying, "what the fuck"?!?

Anthony will play in the rookie/sophomore game because the AS is in Denver and he's trying to rehab his image after all the off-court shit he got into which is fucking with his game and his endorsements. You know he thought he was a shoo-in for the All-Star team this year.

LeBron and Wade will make the East all-stars, and both are battling injurys, no reason for them to play.

If that's the case I think the game looks real close, lots of talent on both squads. Gordon could easily go off and drop 30 in that setting. And even though he's injured, Al Jefferson deserved a look, definitely ahead of David Harrison....

You had respect for Chris Webber in the first place?

Two things:

Darius Miles got suspended because he said during a meeting that he didn't care if they lost the next 20 games just as long as Maurice Cheeks got fired. I would say that's detrimental to the team.

Carmelo Anthony's sophomore season has been a letdown, so I don't see how he could expect to make the All-Star team this year.

I was talking pre-season, because he probably thought he'd waltz into the AS game. Remember last year he was all pissed because him and LeBron got snubbed? Well, this year Wade and LeBron have completely distanced themselves and he's got nobody to blame but himself. 75% of the time he looks like he's playing lazy, his shot selection has been horrible this year (part of this has to do with him legit being the team's best outside shooter despite it not being his game, but I've watched him play, his shot selection away from the perimiter sucks too), and he looks like he's lost a little quickness and explosiveness, the ankle injurys no doubt playing a part, but moreso due to his reported dislike for weight training.

If he thinks he's too big of a star for the rookie game he'll make a lot of enemies in the press and the crowd, which is why he'll suck it up and play, he's smart enough to know that.
