Banter 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 Mark Steven Johnson on Ghost Rider Source: ComingSoon.net January 16, 2005 Ghost Rider writer/director Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil) dropped by Superhero Hype! to give a new update on the anticipated Sony adaptation of the comic books, which will start shooting in just four weeks. Some highlights from the update are that Nicolas Cage will indeed be playing Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider. A few more parts are cast and official announcements should be coming soon. The budget for the film is now $51 million, but he expects it to be higher. He also adds that they are no longer using the earlier David Goyer script, instead Johnson is going with his own, which is closer to the comic and also a supernatural western. Nic Cage? Supernatural western? Written and directed by the guy who wrote and directed Daredevil? Fuck this.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 I'll give it a chance. Hopefully RVD will make some kind of cameo. After all, GR is his favorite superhero!
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 I'm also willing to give it a chance. After seeing what Mark Steven Johnson is really capable of doing with his DareDevil Director's Cut version, I think he's a guy capable of putting some real comic book feel on the script as well as on screen. It's the studio that fucked up his movie.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 Daredevil wasn't as horrible as everyone makes it out to be...like Poch said, add back in the cut parts and you have a damn decent comic book flick...
starvenger 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 The only problem I have with the "Director's Cut" is that it almost seems to have been made in hindsight, but that's just me. Overall though, it was still a good flick from a rookie director, filled with what I suppose are rookie mistakes that you hope he'll correct with Ghost Rider. Speaking of which... He also adds that they are no longer using the earlier David Goyer script, instead Johnson is going with his own, which is closer to the comic and also a supernatural western. I'm not sure how a "supernatural western" makes it closer to the comic. I'm also unsure about having Nic Cage in this, but Cage as Blaze has to be better than Keanu as Constantine or Berry as Catwoman. Anyways, I suppose that this is still in the early stages, so I'm not worried yet.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 I don't think Cage really give a shit on who he plays as long as he can play the lead in a comic book movie. Superman, Hellboy, now finally Ghost he's ghost Rider.

Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted January 21, 2005 Things have officially picked up... Variety says American Beauty star Wes Bentley will play the villain Blackheart in Columbia Pictures' Ghost Rider, the comic book adaptation that stars Nicolas Cage and is being directed by Mark Steven Johnson. The Marvel Comics property centers on a motorcyclist who makes a pact with dark forces, gets double-crossed and battles the bad guys to protect the woman he loves. The movie is being produced by Michael De Luca, Avi Arad, Gary Foster and Ari Arad. Johnson rewrote a Shane Salerno script. Shooting begins next month in Australia. The trade adds that Bentley is a friend of Colin Farrell, who starred as Bullseye in Johnson's Daredevil. Farrell put the actor and helmer together for this new film. Guest TonyJaymzV1 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Daredevil wasn't as horrible as everyone makes it out to be...like Poch said, add back in the cut parts and you have a damn decent comic book flick... you know, I ever thought that MORE coolio would be a good thing. If you think about ti, the only two bad things about Daredevil were: 1)Ben Affleck. He just wasn't right for the role, at all. 2)The beyond moronic playground fight between Elektra/DD Otherwise I'd say the movie is pretty solid, and the director's cut makes it an above avaerage movie. Personally...I'd watch a sequel. I never got into Ghost Riider, but I can't see Cage in this role. These roles should goto unknowns...unknowns make these roles! You look at any good comic book movie, and the lead role is a virtual unknown Hellboy: Ron Perlman Spiderman: Tobey Macquire X-Men: Wolverine:Hugh Jackman Those 3 have been the best comic movies in the last couple years, and all helmed by, at the time, unknowns
LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Tobey was pretty well known when Spider-man came out. Not as well known as he is now, however before Spider-man he did:Wonder Boys, Cider House Rules and Pleasantville among smaller parts in films like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Not a top of the list guy, but he was starting to get some buzz.

nogoodnick 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Im a bit skeptical about all the comic movies coming out. A lot of them weren't that great of characters (Deathlok, Black Panther). Ghost Rider is pretty cool though and Cage really pushed for this role so I think he will do some great work. Compared to Nic Cage Pearlman was an unknown. A lot of people still hadn't heard of him. I like watching comic movies with stars that i dont asssociate with other movies. It makes them feel realer or something.
