Guest El Satanico Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Can anyone tell me if it's worth double dipping for?
Kahran Ramsus Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 I would say no. It is better than the original film, but not to the degree of something like Daredevil where the movie ends up being completely different.
imajackoff? Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 IIRC the first release of Hellboy was pretty loaded. I find it hard to believe that they could have MORE quality stuff to fully justify a double dip.
Guest El Satanico Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 Well If I double dipped for this, it would just be for the director's cut of the movie.
cabbageboy Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 If you already have the original release I wouldn't bother with the director's cut. I've rented the original and my brother got the director's version for Christmas, and to be honest I noticed no big difference. I'd get the director's version if I didn't have the 1st one though.
Downhome Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 Sell the one you have to someone, then use that money to help go towards the 3-disc set. It's one of the best DVD sets ever in my opinion, and it's 15 more minutes of Hellboy goodness, all of which is worthy to own. Overall, it just helps flesh out the film as a whole, which makes that much more of a better film by the time it's all said and done. Like the DVDTalk review for this set said, it does indeed make the film feel more epic, and gives it a more seamless flow.
Guest DVD Spree Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Everyone's overlooked the fact that the DC has an all-new commentary by Guillermo Del Toro, flying solo this time, that is just all kinds of awesome. Worth the "double dip" (although I'm loathe to call it that, since both sets were announced together) on its own.
CBright7831 Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Is the movie Hellboy itself worth getting or does it deserve a video rental first?
Corey_Lazarus Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Rental. I thought it was decent, but not in the same league as some of the superb comic movies (X2, The Crow, etc.).
Nighthawk Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 The Crow? You're not a 15 year old goth girl by any chance are you?
CBright7831 Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 I rented it today, and well, let's just say it wasn't what I was expecting it to be.
Guest El Satanico Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 What did you expect it to be. With access to the internet, there's no excuse for not being informed about a film.
CBright7831 Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 I don't see how it has a 78% rating on RT. It looked like a fun movie and well, let's just say it was worth a rent, and nothing more.
Corey_Lazarus Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 The Crow? You're not a 15 year old goth girl by any chance are you? No, but it is a very fucking good movie, and one of the best comic book movies ever made, especially since it stuck INCREDIBLY close to the source material.
Lil' Bitch Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Wal-Mart is selling the 3 DVD disc set for $10 now. I'm assuming it has to do with the sequel coming out this year. Can anyone tell me if it's worth double dipping for? The extra scenes aren't overly crucial to the story, but the extended version does add a bit to the characters, particularly Liz. The new extras they included are also nice to watch.
