Memphis, Tennessee, January 21, 2005 — The Memphis Grizzlies are deeply saddened to report the death of Don Poier, the voice of the Grizzlies on radio and on TV, a treasured member of the Grizzlies family who passed away suddenly in Denver on January 21, 2005.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Don’s wife, Barbara, and their entire family. “Don thanked God every day that he got to do this job. He loved the Grizzlies, the city of Memphis and the fans more than anything.”

Information regarding funeral arrangements and expressions of sympathy are not yet available.

53. Shit, that's young. I feel bad for his family, and also Grizzlies fans, because it's tough to lose a broadcaster.

Grizzlies fans? What?

Oh yeah, tough break. Dying before you even qualify for Social Security is always too young. RIP and all that.

dying young is shitty, but I had to laugh when Sportscenter said "longtime Memphis Grizzlie announcer". How long have they been down there, like 4 years?

Yeah but even counting their time in Vancouver, they haven't been around that long have they?

They played first in the 95-96 season. They moved to Memphis starting in the 2001-02 season. So, the most he could ahve been with the team is 9 years.
